A community-oriented country that opens its arms to visitors in need. A country that has communities, that allow complete strangers to walk into their house and use their bathroom. A country filled with natural beautiful plants and animals. A culture that is rich in traditions and a sense of community. A world where women are unaware that period cramps are common and therefore, may result in poor self-mediation; for example, taking someone elses antibiotics for their period cramps. A world, where a lack of income, results in individuals being unable to visit their local doctor’s office. Because of all these needs; it was imperative that I do something to help. I first heard about this wonderful trip, when I had my interview to get into nursing school. I was told about a wonderful educational experience, where I got to help people in need, while being in a foreign country. I thought, what an amazing experience that will aid me in being the best possible nurse. I would get to participate in three things I love to do; nursing, assisting others in need, and traveling. This was the perfect time for me to go on this trip because I am just skimming the surface of nursing and am interested in exploring the world as a travel nurse. Bolivia is a Spanish speaking country in South America surrounded by other Spanishspeaking countries; Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Chile, and Peru. Bolivia was conquered in the 1500’s by Spain, but became independent in 1825. Home to the Andes Mountains and several tropical rain forests, Bolivia is a major vacation spot. The country was named after a previous general from Venezuela who helped them gain their freedom from Spain. Interestingly enough, Bolivia has two capitols which are Sucre and La Paz. Despite the fun fact, that Bolivia has two capitols in their country, their history proves just how hard they had to work to get that freedom (World Book 442-446).

There is an utterly fascinating location in the world, known as “The City in the Clouds.” The city in the clouds gets its name from how high the amazing structures that the once inhabiting Incan Empire created there. That height, as mentioned earlier, is about 7,800 feet above sea level. In July of 1911, American explorer Hiram Bingham made his way to this city after many weeks of searching. “Suddenly I found myself confronted with the walls ruined houses built of the finest quality of Inca stonework. It was hard to see them, for they were partly covered with trees and moss, the growth of centuries,” Hiram later recorded. This article certainly caught my eye. Can you imagine that in the deepest jungle in the Peruvian Amazon there is a percolating, roiling, boiling river? The waters in this river can reach a temperature of up to 200 degrees Fahrenheit and all around it is lush vegetation and forest. The locals living here believed that the river is sacred and that these particularly hot water had healing powers and shamans used it along with their medicine.
Currently, many organizations are giving hand in order to solve these problems in the countries, still the progress is not completely done and many of victims are suffering from injustice treatment. Rural Poverty area in Peru is another controversial problem of freedom from want. From the statistic of Rural Poverty Portal website, nearly one third of population’s condition is below the standard of poverty. Eight million of Peru citizens remain in poor condition. The groups of people who mostly suffer from poverty are indigenous people who live in original rural areas. As a result, rural people decide to migrate to urban areas, which offer more favorable opportunities for them. Today, three quarters of citizens are living in the urban areas. The factors of rural poverty are illiteracy especially among women, lacking of essential services, inadequate agricultural research and financial services, ineffective animal and plant health service, poor transportation, and insecure right to land.
