PharMerica Corp HR Department Analysis We have elected to analyze PharMerica Corporation’s human resources department by interviewing Senior Vice President of Human Resources Anthony Hernandez along with Mary Jane Hall Board of Directors Coordinator and Executive Assistant to The SVP of Purchasing. PharMerica is a massive institutional pharmaceutical distributer that was founded in July 2007 from a merger of AmerisourceBergen and Kindred Healthcare’s institutional pharmacy business units. They service a wide variety of customers and offer multiple products and services. This is a great strength to PharMerica because they fill their human capital with skill inventories that revolve around business. This allows for its employee’s to be far more versatile; employees can design strategies to fulfill their department’s goal with an understanding of where the corporation stands in the overall economy. Understanding the business aspects is essential because the corporate strategy is developed from where the company is positioned in its business cycle as well as where it stands in the market. It is not just the human resources department that benefits from this, every department does. This is a great strength to PharMerica in the area of recruiting, when its HR department goes to fill open positions in other departments such as operations, purchasing or sales, the recruiters have a much better understanding of how those departments function. This better understanding allows them to know what business competencies, skills and knowledge a candidate would need in order to do well in such a position. One major aspect that HR has a strong presence in at PharMerica is Compensation and benefits. PharMerica concentrates a large portion of its overall assets as well as the HR department’s resources to compensation and benefits because of how massive of an expense the two components are to the organization.
