0-3 years This is a period of a faster, physical development. In order to survive and through a series of natural reflexes, babies are able to develop the ability of grasping and sucking (on a bottle of milk for example).Though during their first year babies have little control over their bodies by the time they reach 12 months they would have developed a degree of mobility such as crawling or rolling. In their second year has they grow and develop many would have learned to walk. Now with the ability to control their own movements they may start to use their hands more for pointing and holding small objects and even feeding themselves. By their third year and their eagerness to explore, they would be able to climb furniture and stairs and play with toys. They would be able to grasp and use objects such as pencils and crayons. They would be more confident in their walking and some would even learn to run. In their early stages and because it is important for babies to be stimulated and have an interest shown to them, adults will try to communicate with them though they are not yet able to understand what is being said. If babyâ€TMs are neglected and do not spend much time with adults, they will find it difficult to learn effective communication skills in later life. From this

At 1 year, babies are able to sit up and feed themselves using fingers. They also know what they like and do not like, food that they don’t like usually ends up on the floor. Babies are now able to understand more of what is going on and communicate with long strings of babble.
From 9 months – 3 years babies will learn to walk, run, jump and hop using their gross motor skills. They have more control over their movements allowing them to point, hold small objects using the fine pincer grasp and gain more independence in toilet training.

If playing shops they should be able to push the trolley and walk at the same time. Be able to kick a ball independently. Showing control when pouring milk/water into a cup.
