Step Down or Stay? No government kills its people, unless it’s led by a crazy person
-Bashar Al-Assad
Today the international committee and other nations around the world argue whether or not President Bashar-Assad of Syria ought to step down from his position as leader of the Syrian people.it’s not too late to save Syria from falling apart.
President Bashar Al-Assad should step down from office due to president Bashar Al-Assad has made false promises throughout his presidency, the actions under his command during the Syrian Civil war and ISIS, the development and use of chemical weapons in Syria, and his broken promises.

President Bashar Al-Assad should be compelled from office, because he has created a new society in Syria, when he started to plan the development of chemical weapons.

It’s true that president Bashar Al-Assad has made some mistakes handling conflict in syria. But Bashar Al-Assad isn’t completely a bad leader. It is oftern argued that he has made many positive changes to syria after his father formed a strong iron regime. It is true that he created a bad environment for chlidren and adults since the start of the 2011 syrian civil war.Opposing views claim he is receiving help from Putin with russian aristrikes. The russian and American air strikes have really depleated the number of ISIS soldiers in Syria and other threats to the counrty.
However, most of the russian and american airstrikes have not only destroyed ISIS camps and syrian rebel attacks but small villages. It’s a fact that an american airstrike did blow up a syrian hospital by accident. The hospital did have civilians at the and most russian and American air strikes target each other more than they target camps and convoys of ISIS and other terrorist groups. The people of Syria state that the airstrikes have made there lives a living
I am writing to you today as a student at the College of William and Mary. I am in an International Security class and recently we studied the events occurring in Syria. As you are well aware, the situation in Syria has been dramatically deteriorating in recent months with the rise of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and the recent entrance of Russia into the conflict. Syria, meanwhile, has been in the midst of a ravaging civil war since the early spring of 2011. Currently, the government of Syria is led by President Bashar al-Assad, a member of the Syrian Ba’ath Party, a branch of the same Ba’ath Party that Saddam Hussein was also a member of. This similarity may lead some to think that Syria will end up like Iraq, with a
Syrian president Bashar al-Assad has been in charge since 2000, following on from his late father who ruled for 30 years. Commencing in March of 2011, an anti-regime uprising has since escalated into Civil War where it has been estimated that more than 400,000 have been killed (CNN, 2017). Just this death toll alone proves the danger and inhumane conditions the people of Syria have been living in for over six years. Controlling large areas of Northern and Eastern Syria, Islamic State (IS) have been left battling government forces, rebel brigades and air strikes from
The Iranians have clearly provided support to the Assad regime during the civil war, as indicated by the increasing number of Iranian generals dying in Syria (Wright). Clinton has admitted that not acting after Bashir Al-Assad crossed the proverbial “red line” and used chemical weapons on his own people was detrimental to the administration’s integrity. With the Islamic State (ISIS) operating out of Syria under the protection of the Syrian government, throughout her tenure as Secretary of State and as a presidential candidate, Clinton has always maintained the mantra “Assad must go.”
In eyes of the world, as well as a large part of the Arab world, Bashar al-Assad is portrayed as a ruthless dictator. Almost nobody seems to consider the motives of the Syrian president. What few know is that Assad enjoys significant support from both his Alawite people and other minority groups. The Alawites and other minorities have little choice; Syrian rebels and Islamist terror groups could win the war or sign their death warrant. It would be launched large-scale ethnic cleansing and even genocide.
Over the last few years, the Middle Eastern nation of Syria has been the location of a brutal, nationwide conflict. Governed for the last fifteen years by the Syrian dictator, President Bashar al-Assad, the Syrian people began an armed rebellion against the oppressive regime during the spring of 2011. For four years, the bloody conflict has waged between pro-Assad forces, and various factions of rebel groups. In 2013, pro-Assad forces deployed rockets with chemical warheads into rebel controlled neighborhoods, killing many non-combatants indiscriminately, showing the world Syria’s complete lack of humanitarian considerations, and Assad’s willingness to stop at nothing to remain in power. This use of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime has
Assad has been manipulating its own country and making its people be afraid (“CNN”). Genocide has occurred and is ongoing,” Paulo Sérgio Pinheiro, chairman of the panel, the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic, said in a statement (“Bruce”). We also have heard that the commission on Syria has repeatedly recommended referral of the crimes to the International Criminal Court, but no action has followed from the Security Council, where Russia, a permanent member and the closest ally of Syria’s president, Bashar al-Assad, wields a veto (“Bruce”). Also the US strikes inside Syria an effort to “degrade and ultimately destroy the U.S intervention because of the chemical attack and the deaths of hundred civilians (“BBC”). Hezbollah, Iran’s ally and Israel’s enemy, is now fighting alongside Assad’s forces (“HuffPost”). What moscow insists to only have peace in syria and settlement because of all the violence and stop terrorizing pure Syrians(“Huffpost”). Russia has about 6 million muslims in their country (“Huffpost”). Well Russia (and China) insists that humanitarian interventions should rightly be authorized by the U.N. Security Council (where Russia wields a veto). But the U.N.-sanctioned, NATO-led war against Mu’ammar Gaddafi's Libya the prime minister
Bashar Al- Assad has been president for the past fifteen plus years. Under his leadership the country has ended up in turmoil. Bashar Al- Assad is the source of the problem. He can not be apart of the solution. His leadership is not the key to stabilizing Syria and fighting terrorist groups. It is the obstacle. President Bashar Al- Assad's government has killed more people then the Islamic State (ISIL).
It is important to understand the foundation of the crisis in Syria not only for the benefit of the people within its boarders, but also due to the repercussions it causes in territories outside of them. The Syrian civil war has drawn the influence of many world leaders, and is causing global tensions due to overlapping interests. The intertwined web of conflict makes it almost impossible to explain the situation at hand, and even the most educated find it difficult to wrap their heads around the dispute. The three big W’s—who, what, and why—should
President Bashar al-Assad’s army is currently in an ongoing battle against the ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria); a Syrian civil war. This unrest began in the early spring of 2011. The people of Syria were protesting against their leader and the leader’s forces responded with violent “enforcement of regulations”. After
“As far as I am concerned, Syria has not changed”, proposes Bashar Al Assad, the current president of Syria and the commander of the Syrian armed forces, on July 17, 2014 (“Syrian Civil War” 3). In the opinion of Bashar al-Assad, Syria has not changed since the Syrian Civil War, a war fought between the Syrian government and the Free Syrian Army for human rights and political power, began. However, the Syrian Civil War has gone on for over five dreadful years and the death toll has grown to over 500,000 (“Syrian Civil War” 1). The deaths of 500,000 people and the injuries of over 2,000,000 are clearly significant, and there has definitely been a change to the country of Syria ever since the war began. The Syrian rebels’ goal is to increase
“The panicked reactions, fanned by right-wing politicians in the United States and Europe, to ‘declare war’ on the Islamic State are mostly just noise. None of those proposing that kind of response offer the slightest idea of how it would be done; all they have is an understandable desire, which we share, to obliterate the terrorist group also known as ISIS,” wrote the New York Times editorial board. Syria fell under a French Mandate after the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire following World War I, and then struggled to achieve independence. The Assad family used repressive police state measures to ensure a stable government in Syria. An increase of opposition caused Bashar al-Assad to inflict more brutality and dictatorship.
Throughout history, many countries and states have gone to war and fought each other. These conflicts could have a laundry-list of reasons as to why they are occurring, such as natural resources, attempts to gain land, and access and occupation of highly regarded religious sites. War and battling for resources and other materials has been no new topic to us all, but there is one conflict that has blown the lid off everything that world has ever seen. This war has two names, the Syrian Civil War, and the War in Syria. The atrocities that have been witness and or inflicted upon others is absolutely unacceptable, and must be stopped.
Vladimir Putin has been offering assistance to Assad during the Syrian Civil war. President Putin surprised many when he made his sudden announcement about his withdrawal of all military assistance from Syria. Putin has offered government assistance and military assistance to Assad, and they have helped achieve many towns and miles of territory back from the rebels, and military officials have cut off the main supply line for the rebels. A ceasefire was negotiated between Mr. Putin’s foreign minister as well as the Secretary of State John F. Kerry before things can be locked into place. While the ceasefire was called and in place government military forces still attacked key places, without consequences. Putin feels that he has done his main
The nation of Syria is a predominantly Arab country in Western Asia. Its border countries include Turkey, Iraq, Palestine and Jordan. The Middle Eastern region since the early 90’s has been a volatile area waiting to erupt in violence and protests. Iraq had the dictator Saddam Hussein and was on the brink of being invaded in the Gulf War and was invaded in early 2000 after the 9/11 attacks. In recent history, Syria has been involved in multiple situations in the region militarily. The purpose of this paper is to outline the key actors in the onslaught of the Syrian Civil War and how the conflict in the region will only further destabilize the Middle East.
President Assad was given an outstanding western education, receiving a degree for ophthalmology from a London-based medical school. Naturally there was hope that since Assad had spent time in one of the most consolidated democracies, he might have been more willing to implement democratic measures in Syria than his father. Assad’s rise to power was actually through a series of rather lucky events for him. Originally his older brother was selected as his father’s heir but an unexpected car accident thrust Bashar into the spotlight. Upon the death of his father, Bashar then proceeded to be appointed leader of the major political party and the army after which he was elected president.
