Presidential Debate Another four years another presidential debate. Before I go on to the current debates let me state a few facts about past ones. The Lincoln and Douglas debate was in important because it started Lincoln presidential career. The Debates lasted from August 21 -- October 15. There where seven of them, with two days to two weeks in between. Each debate lasted three hours; first candidate spoke for one hour; the second for one and a half hours; the first replying for a half hour. Candidates alternated going first. The topics involved where primarily slavery and the Union. Other important debates were the '48 and '57. They were the only debates before 1960; there were no presidential debates between 1960 and 1976. In …show more content…
"It's a school of strong discipline a high standards. It's one of the best schools in Houston." "That's my vision for public education all around America."(Governor Bush) Bush also wants to change Head Start to a reading program and also he wants people to access reading money if they want to. Bush wants more kids to learn how to read and have more teach-for-the-children type teachers. Bush only cares for the children. Gore on the other hand agrees with only a couple of things that Bush stated. He strongly supports accountability; he also supports local control. Bush and Gore agree on both. Gore thinks every teacher should be tested including in the subjects that they teach. He also thinks that 100,000 new teachers should be recruited to reduce class size. The main reason for that is because a man gave him a letter from his daughter. The girl is the 36th student in her class; the picture attached showed that there was no room for one desk so she had to stand. He also wants to make college tax deductible (up to $10,000 a year). I believe that both of the candidates have very good points on education, they were to combine there ideas they would come up with a very good education plan. I like college being tax deductible and I also like the 100,000 more teachers for to reduce class size.
Whereas Newt Gingrich former Speaker of the House believes the government needs to shrink the department and cut virtually all of its regulations (Abolish). Most of the candidates also believe that the budget of the D.O.E. needs to be cut and the money left over needs to go back to the individual states’ education departments.
The US Presidential Election of 2000 featured George W. Bush and Al Gore. It will go down in history as one of the most closest elections¡¦ in US history. It also goes down as one of the most controversial. The final decision was based on just a few hundred votes in Florida. The controversy began when the media prematurely declared the winner twice based solely on exit polls. They finally conceded that the Florida count was just too close to predict. It would take a month before the election was ultimately certified after numerous court challenges and vote recounts. Republican candidate George W. Bush was declared the winner of the Florida¡¦s 25 electoral votes. This was a victory by a razor thin margin of popular
The main and obvious distinction between the two candidates is that Clinton has a bigger following. Both Clinton and Stein support safe and legal abortions, making college more affordable, protecting the LGBTQ community from discrimination, and raising taxes on the wealthy. On the opinion of decriminalizing offenses that historically have targeted minorities, both candidates said yes. Clinton and Stein also agree that there needs to be reduction of pollution as well as approve on offering a roadmap to citizenship for undocumented workers. I agree with all of their stances on the previous political issues. My main concern with the country it that I feel we are in need of a criminal justice reform, that would provide rehabilitation and education for inmates as well as training for officers. I also feel like the rights of women, minorities, and LGBTQ need further protection. There is also a deep need to resolve the issue of poverty and the gap between the rich and the poor. I am confident that either candidate would address the issues I am concerned
Student debt in America is the main issue that both Clinton and Trump are fighting to solve. They are both on the same side of the fight; student debt is growing in America and hurting the higher education system (Trump, 2015, Clinton, 2016). However, each candidate has an opposing solution to this crippling problem.
In order to have a government that is run by people; specifically, people that must choose a candidate to vote for, its seems fit that it would be important that there be adequate means of illustrating each candidate’s positions on all of the issues that the constituents care about. Presidential debates are the means of showcasing a candidates’ policies to the nation and at the same time they allow the citizens in the democratic society to make a more informed decision about their vote than they otherwise would have without a debate.
The election of Bush v. Gore is known as one of the most controversial elections of all time, people often speculate the perspective of the election based on the popular vote and the way the candidates presented themselves. Known as the “Endless Election”, the events that took place during in the election led to a huge argument on who really won the election. People like to argue that election was rigged and that Gore should have been the POTUS.
The 2016 presidential election seemed to be a particularly hectic election. On November 8,2016, I was checking my Facebook newsfeed. As I scrolled through my newsfeed, I see a lot of posts related to the election. People would post opinions on each of the presidential candidates as well as which their predictions of which candidate will win. The newspaper websites provided frequent updates throughout the day to inform people about the progress of the election. That night, I watched tentatively as the ballots were being counted, and I saw people’s comments of shock and disbelief when Trump managed to get ahead of Hillary in terms of electoral college votes.
Hilary plans on increasing taxes on the upper-class and not the middle-class. She will also make sure college students have a low interest rate on their loans. Hilary will discourage companies from moving out of the country to save on taxes. She will make childcare more affordable in terms of the parents not paying more than 10% of their income. On the other hand, Trumps plan will favor the wealthy and they will be the ones with the most savings. Trump has also stated he will tax the products coming in so the jobs won’t leave the U.S. He also wants to eliminate estate tax allowing even the wealthiest people to pass their assets to heirs without being taxed when a certain income budget is met.
Hillary Clinton supports the immigration reform. She considers that our country gives refuge to those that need it. Also, Clinton is against deportation of immigrants because those people lost their opportunity in this country to be legal and broke down their families. Martin O’Malley criticizes the attacks on undocumented immigrants. He thinks that a complete immigration reform may include included a path to citizenship
The political infrastructure of America has remained consistent with the ideology of a representative republic, essentially the masses choosing representatives who then decide whom they want as a leader of the fine country under the notion of said candidates ideologies, religion, and promises upon election. Every four years, America holds an election to determine the Commander in Chief, an honor of prestige and status. The duty of a President is to obey the best interests of the country, utilizing their power in order to handle the issues that plague the nation. Planetary issues such as gay marriage, immigration, and marijuana particularly, same-sex marriage, the construction of a wall near the southern border, and medical marijuana. This essay aims to display the arguments/stance that each presidential candidate has towards such issues, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, and serves as an analysis of their determined stance.
While using a variety of different appeals, “The Second Presidential Debate” argues that integrity is the most important quality of a president, and this argument is shown throughout the debate through both the candidate's choice to undermine each other's character. Though it seems as if both candidates use illogical arguments to persuade the audience, in all reality they use many logical fallacies and appeals to help make their argument better, and their opponent’s seem weaker.
Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton both seem like decent candidates, but Bernie Sanders is the more relatable and the more thoughtful candidate. When it comes down to experience, both of them have had there fair share of politics. Although Hillary Clinton has experienced presidency during her husband’s administration, I still believe that Bernie will still be a better choice in terms of important issues such as foreign policy. Since nowadays, there are still sensitive areas of foreign policy like North Korea, Russia, and ISIS that has to be put under thoughtful consideration so that it won’t make matters
Another big economic issue in the presidential race is tax reform. Gore is prepared with several, thought to be successful, plans for tax cuts and reforms should he be elected. The Clinton administration had successful "disciplined" and "prudent" economic policies which Gore states he would like to continue (Al Gore on Tax Reform). In reserve, Gore would like to set aside $300 billion in instance that the rosy projections do not materialize. Gore promises to make up to $10,000 in college tuition tax deductions in order to increase enrollment (Al Gore on Tax Reform).
On October 13th, I watched the Democratic Debate, hosted by CNN, in the Terrace with many other students from Larzelere. I decided to begin to inform myself about politics and potential presidential candidates, since I will be a voting citizen by the time the next election rolls around. Coming from a poor small town community in northern Michigan, there is little involvement and education for politics. Voting is a private issue, and our government class was basically limited to the three branches of federal government. By attending the debate, I hope to become more educated about the politics in America, and be a more informed voter.
Although it is often said that the President of the United States holds the most powerful office in the world, this does not mean that he is able to decide very much for himself. The American Constitution, which was adapted in 1789, clearly states the Separation of Powers. Thus, the president makes up only one third of the government, namely the executive branch. He is also controlled by a complex system of checks and balances, which makes sure that he (or any of the other branches, for that matter) does not become too powerful. We will now have a look at the different problems which may be facing a recently elected president, and then discuss to what extent his powers are important.
