There are many leadership styles which are prevalent in the market each consisting of their own pros and cons. Their feasibility is determined by the personality of the leader and the organizational culture involved.
The first leadership style under consideration is the autocratic style which is also known as authoritarian. They make decisions based on their own ideas and perspectives and demand little or no feedback from the employees. They exercise complete control over the group members and make choices based on their judgment. However they are not always suitable for every organization. As noted in my research every leader should have a flexible attitude not a rigid and constant one to increase and improve efficiency and teamwork.
There are some situations that demand the authoritarian style of leadership. When there are a lot of group members and the leader has to take a stand to make the decision in a sure and consistent manner. Also, I will examine the Chinese, Indian and Turkish cultures represented in my group. In order to describe these cultures, appropriate cross-cultural models will be followed. With the aforementioned characteristics in mind, the theories and styles of management and leadership are an art to get employees to work together and perform the organizations goals. Leadership plays an important role to make the subordinates work as a single unit. The five major types of management styles are autocratic, paternalistic, democratic, laissez-faire, and management by walking around (MSG, 2015). Autocratic style is not taking into consideration the ideas of others. The subordinates do not have a say in what they do and rely on their bosses to make decisions and tell them what to do. The bosses create policies based on their decisions without regard to the subordinate’s suggestions. Typically in an autocratic style, the employees lack motivation. Paternalistic style differs from autocratic in that the leaders place more consideration on the wellbeing of the people, not just the organization.
