------------------------------------------------- Preparing to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector ------------------------------------------------- Unit 002 – Understand inclusive learning and teaching in Lifelong Learning Angie Alvarez Lorza 1.1 Summarise Learning and teaching strategies used in own specialism Within my own specialty field having a variety of teaching methods and strategies to potentiate learning is an absolute requirement. The field caters to people from all kinds of backgrounds and levels of education so it must be flexible and adaptable enough to appeal to its varied audience. It is usually taught following a mix of teaching methods that focus on different learning strategies, and can be …show more content…
2.2 Explain how to provide opportunities for learners to practise their literacy, language, numeracy and ICT It is possible in my field, (NLP, Presentation Skills and performance enhancement) to present students with opportunities that require them to practice their literacy, language, numeracy and ICT skills in a variety of ways. Students are usually required to prepare some class with some recommended reading books, journals or articles, (depending on the particular aims of the course), occasions where they are able to practice their literacy and language skills. As communication is a key element in my field, the necessity for them to develop excellent Language skills is key, as it also requires preparation, as elements of clear enunciation, focusing and the design of presentations are usually present in most of the courses within this field. Numeracy skills are in most cases inherent as activities have to be very well timed and managed, and participants usually apply them within their own contexts and backgrounds at the same time they apply the skills learned during my courses, therein, time
I regards to Numeracy sessions, again they often run similarly to Literacy lessons, where I get to prepare appropriate maths resources and organize the group work or work with certain individuals. I often need to repeat teacher’s instructions to re-enforce what pupils should be able to achieve and maybe introduce follow-on tasks to extend learning of the more able pupils. I feel, I still have a lot to learn in Numeracy department, partly due to the fact that I was not educated in the UK and the strategies for some mathematical activities are solved very differently here that I would had been used to. Luckily in Year 1 I can catch up fairly quickly and I am learning along side our children.
Within my school literacy lesson will be planed by the teachers, the teacher will go over the
During my practicum observation that took place at my former high school different while in class I got significant information from students on the different literacy traits. In my observation the traits I took from these students were organization, voice, word choice, ideas, and sentence fluency. Each literacy trait is important to improving a student’s overall learning in various ways must effectively is providing students the necessary study habits and sharpen focus. Day 1: Organization was the focus during the first day of my practicum observation. The instructor order the
These activities focus teaching and learning by clearly defining the essential concept and facilitates recall by reducing the amount of essential information. They also will enable learners to foster their creativity and critical thinking skills as well as discover new ideas and information and make better decisions. These skills can be used in a variety of everyday situations. This assignment addresses the FEAP indicators since it aligns instruction with the state-adopted standards at the appropriate level of rigor, which is designed for students to achieve mastery. It clearly matches the learning objectives; the questions and concepts are sequenced to ensure coherence and required prior knowledge. Besides, technology is applied to organize and integrate assessment information. Moreover, it brings developmental learning experiences that require students to demonstrate a variety of applicable skills and competencies. To continue growing as it relates to this assignment/FEAP I have goals that I will try to reach. I will strive to provide, whenever possible, opportunities for students to use technology since this helps them to have real world
Accompanying these text, should be writing task that will reinforce skills taught in the previous week’s lessons. Reading texts are the most important tool in a literacy lesson plan and more than one should be introduce in each unit. These introductory texts can be used to teach children how to pronounce phonics and how to read fluently. Literary texts will introduce students to different authors, different cultures, different ways of written (I once read a book with absolutely no punctuation) and also teach them how to read punctuation. Substantial, reading out loud not only models fluent reading but also helps students’ imaginations because they listen more.
Enabling students’ greater success and opportunity to demonstrate their literacy skills in many different genres (spoken, written, illustrated), catering to the student’s needs. This can be achieved through giving the students options on how they would like to communicate and demonstrate their historical knowledge and skills. Providing the students, a chance to take control of their learning, through giving them with options with things like;
C. Commentary: Discuss the central issue addressed in each reading. Explain the relationship among the different perspectives taken on developing reading competence in each of the readings. What conclusions might be drawn about the challenges in facilitating literacy for urban and other underserved students? What approaches might best serve the needs of these students?
While new literacy skills may not necessarily have an immediate impact on student grades, that does not mean that student achievement has not been positively impacted. Students who are given the opportunity to engage with technology and new literacy skills will be more apt to see their deficiencies, which will be addressed by the instructional modules and projects that make up the intervention. The modules are meant to show students how to improve areas of weakness regarding new literacy skills. As students grow in their new literacy skills, they will be better equipped to use those skills inside and outside the classroom to assist with learning – which the researcher hopes will result in positive academic gains, or in other words, an improvement in student
I will address a wide range of skills and abilities in my classroom by differentiating instructions. I believe that students reach their highest level of thinking at different rates and in their own way. Therefore, teachers must teach in the way their students learn. I will address my student's needs by using various strategies such as individual learning, collaborative learning and scaffolding my lessons. Individual learning will allow students to complete their assignments at their own level and rate and collaborative learning promotes peer learning. I believe peer learning will improve students progress as they work towards a common goal. I will also scaffold my lessons and design activities and assessments that will support multiple learning
The teaching of literacy needs to include a balance of reading, writing, speaking, and listening experiences and requirements to be implemented in a way that provides a variety of instructional strategies to meet the needs of all diverse learners and as an educator it is my job to utilise the best approaches and strategies to teach literacy.
As a student educator, it is important to teach my future students to be literate and to be literate myself. My goal of development of reading, writing, speaking and listening in my future classrooms will be possible through completion
Explaining to the student the importance of setting goals so they can have measurable goal-directed outcomes. Also, establishing the perfect learning environment for the student based on their individual learning needs. Applying the foundational strategies of adult literacy, numeracy skills in an outcomes-based e-learning environment are implemented. By using technology, goal-directed learning and training modules in both group activities and individual learning environments it will set a firm foundation of continual desired learning for the adult literacy student (Adult Literacy Educator Certificate Program, 2011).
How can the populace have such basic skills if there is not enough and qualified instructor to teach them? I have the necessary qualities required to execute this task. In this light, I thought it wise and have decided to take up PGCE Numeracy and Maths Specialists because I enjoy working with people, I am able to motivate others and give constructive criticism, I am a hardworking, reliable individual who can work well alone or as part of a team with emphasis on performing quality work. I am a highly determined, adaptable and resourceful individual and also skilled at responding to complex situations and handling stressful conditions. I enjoy challenging and varied working environment and enjoy communicating with others at all levels, and will be able to apply these skills and knowledge gained during my undergraduate and postgraduate studies to help individuals to better their lives, and to achieve their goals. I will also gain valuable experience, skills and knowledge such as; analysing learning needs and develop appropriate strategies, managing own learning, and make critical use of scholarly reviews and primary , demonstrate self direction in tackling and solving problems, analyse and evaluate methodologies appropriate to the lifelong learning sector, communicate complex ideas and arguments effectively using a range of media both orally and in writing, demonstrate a critical understanding of knowledge of
It is important to see if it is a worthwhile method to use technology in literacy education by itself, in combination with classroom learning, or not at all. Millions of adults around the world are illiterate hindering their chances of finding a job and living in everyday life making the need for resources to help them overcome it necessary. Before advanced technology came out the only viable way to teach writing and reading to adults was in classrooms. Today there are more tools available that can enhance an adult’s ability to learn to read and write. The parts of the world that have the highest illiteracy are South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa places with little advanced technology making it harder to use it for learning.
