Qualitative research method is a systematic strategy used for gathering information that are non-numerical, that is, they use visual and narrative words instead of using number. The data collected are from comprehensive case studies, focus groups a qualitative research approach whereby subjects answers an open-ended interview questions, likewise each others ' comments; ethnographies or field observation. (Headlessprofessor, 2012)
I will be conducting a focus group around the topic: Mathematics the most difficult or simplest course. My participants consist of 5 British students (two girls and three boys) in Year 6 from different schools in Birmingham, the United Kingdom. The purpose of choosing a smaller group for this topic is to be able to maximize time, engage the entire 5 student in the discussion and to gather adequate fact. Sit back and enjoy.
Welcome and thank you all for participating in today’s focus group where we will be discussing the topic titled Mathematic the most difficult or simplest course. My name is Joan McDonald; I work at the Birmingham City Council.
However, our aim of inviting you here is to establish your impressions around the course; explore your views and gather some ideas and information on the tools or techniques to adopt in order to change student’s perspective about Mathematics and make them enjoy the topic rather than hate it.

A researcher obtains subjective facts in order to explore the experiences of each participant (Schneider, Elliot, LoBiondo-Wood & Haber 2004). As a result, qualitative research is a means in which a researcher gains an insight into the participant's point of view concerning their personal experiences; in order gain an understanding of the information given. Therefore this allows a researcher to collect subjective information to create a description of the phenomenon (Vishnevsky & Beanlands 2004).

Hello and I hope that everyone is ready to gear up on a new adventure of math. Here I'm again , attempting the class again, this time I am only taking one class. I drop the this class before after two weeks because I found to be overwhelming, due to me working two job and a fulltime student. As one of my favorite quote, " If you don't like something change it, if you can't change it, change your attitude ". (Maya Angelou). As you can see, I made the change, drop one job, and here I am again ready to succeed for excellence.
A Focus group is defined as a research technique that collects data through a group interaction, on a given topic from the researcher. Along with this definition are some essential components. Firstly, it states that, focus groups are research methods devoted to data collection. Secondly, it signifies the interaction of group discussion as a source of data. Lastly, it acknowledges the active role of researchers in establishing the group discussion in order to collect data (David, 1996.p.130).
My lifelong passion for Maths and my desire to share it with others have enhanced my admiration of the subject and reinforced my aspiration to become a teacher. During my 12 years of teaching experience, I was trying to best exemplify the three important points: (i) love of teaching, (ii) love of mathematics, and (iii) concern for the student. Overall, I am committed to an applied/interdisciplinary approach to scholarship and teaching mathematics, and I try to structure all of my courses with this in mind.
In today’s society mathematics is a vital part of day-to-day life. No matter what a person is doing at home or at the workplace, he/she is constantly using different mathematics skills to simply function. Then what does this mean for mathematics education? When someone needs to utilize a skill every day then he/she needs a strong background in the skill. Therefore, today’s students need more than a just a working knowledge of mathematics or enough knowledge to pass a test. Today’s students need to understand how mathematics works and how to utilize mathematics skills in the best way possible.
Maths is ubiquitous in our lives, but depending on the learning received as a child it could inspire or frighten. If a child has a negative experience in mathematics, that experience has the ability to affect his/her attitude toward mathematics as an adult. Solso (2009) explains that math has the ability to confuse, frighten, and frustrate learners of all ages; Math also has the ability to inspire, encourage and achieve. Almost all daily activities include some form of mathematical procedure, whether people are aware of it or not. Possessing a solid learning foundation for math is vital to ensure a lifelong understanding of math. This essay will discuss why it is crucial to develop in children the ability to tackle problems with initiative and confidence (Anghileri, 2006, p. 2) and why mathematics has changed from careful rehearsal of standard procedures to a focus on mathematical thinking and communication to prepare them for the world of tomorrow (Anghileri).
