The main focus is to achieve and maintain reasonable profitability to assure that the financial and human capital is available for sustained growth. In order to obtain these goals Riordan Manufacturing will need to have a strong production plan.

Riordan Manufacturing leads the industry as a global plastics manufacturer of plastic injection molding. Initially, the company under the management of Dr. Riordan focused on the research and development and successive patenting of key plastics capabilities. In 1992 they extended their focus through the purchase of a fan manufacturing plant in Pontiac, MI. and broaden development in 1993 to plastic beverage containers after acquiring an Albany GA manufacturing plant.

Riordan Manufacturing is a global leader in plastics manufacturing who employees hundreds of people.  Riordan manufactures plastic bottles, medical stents, fans, heart valves, and they custom order plastics. In maintaining their competitiveness, they utilize the Six Sigma methodology and are focused on long-term relationships with their customers as well as their suppliers while achieving financial growth. In this paper, we will discuss the current state of operations at Riordan and define the process for custom plastic pieces at their facility located in Michigan. Finally, we will recommend some metrics that should provide improvements to their process.

The network system is located at the corporate headquarters in San Jose and requires an information technology department dedicated toward keeping the system operational. Development of the education department is responsible for training throughout the company, factories and suppliers with connectivity to the network. An established regional trainer is responsible for the individual departments with a dotted line to corporate education for training new hires and executing system implementations. Having a regional point of contact avoids delays with network updates and contributes with production when training is not required.
