After running away in 1728, Rousseau pretended to be enthusiastic about Catholicism and was sent to De Warens; she then sent him to Turin to be baptized, where he found labor “with a shopkeeper’s wife whose lover he became until her husband returned” (The History Guide). He soon returned to De Warens in Annecy, leading to his completion in education and discovery of music.
