What is humanistic? Why are we researching about humanities? Humanistic basically refers to the values that are reflected by a belief in human dignity. It is the study of literature, philosophy and art etc. On the day of November 8, 2016, I have visited at the institution of arts museum at Chicago to research about the artifact that were placed in the museum. There were the three artifact that I got interested in and started about researching it. One of the artifact was the painting from Francois Xavier Fabre who had create the painting called Cleombrote and Leonidas, which was been created during French revolution. Another artifact that I would like to talked about was one of the famous author named Jean- Michel Moreau the Younger who had …show more content…
This painting represents the love of an woman towards her husband. Wife was pleading her husband not to go at war because she care about husband’s life. Which show that female women at that age till now cares about their husband.
Lastly, I would like to talked about the one of most beautiful painting named Interior view of the Church of Saint Peter’s in the Vatican by Francesco Panini in 1770’s. Before even, let’s talked about the history of the church. Saint Peter’s Basilica is one of the famous Catholic church and one of the most holiest site. It was built according to tradition above the burial site of the St. Peter. According to the cite, “ twelve disciples of Jesus and the first Bishop of Rome, who was martyred in the year 64 CE”. So to maintain that tradition , whenever the Pope dies, they buried them in the basilica. As shown

I have talked about the three painting that I have feel interested about it and describe their significance and how it connects to the Humanities. The first painting called the Cleombrote and Leonidas painting created by the Francois Xavier Fabre represented that by that Era if people an person break the rule of the tradition that people has been following out their life. Person will going to get punished by the king. Secondly, we have described the feeling from the women about his husband. In the painting by Jean Michel Moreau the Younger, which was Creusa Pleads with Aeneas as He leaves for War. It described that how Creusa plead with Aeneas not to go for war. Lastly, we describe that about people belief about continue following the tradition that has been following by the people. Interior view of the Church of Saint Peter’s in the Vatican by Francesco Panini have describe that how people renovated their holy place to continue following their tradition. These three painting had gave us a well explanation about the study of humanities which basically means belief in the human
I will be analyzing the piece Aeneas and His Family Fleeing Troy. This artwork is currently being displayed at the San Diego Museum of Art, in Balboa Park near downtown San Diego. This painting was made in 1635 during the Baroque Period in France by Simon Vouet. Vouet was the most influential painter of his time and did much to make Paris an artistic center of Europe. Vouet was heavily influenced by Caravaggio who also heavily influenced other painters during Vouet’s time. In this paper, I will be exploring issues such as material, subject matter, scale, historical context, light, human figure, and finally museum context.
So, what exactly does Humanism mean? According to the Stanford University’s Humanities center, they describe the humanities as, “The study of how people process and document the human experience. Since humans have been able, we have used philosophy, literature, religion, art, music, history and language to understand and record our world. These modes of expression have become some of the subjects that traditionally fall under the humanities umbrella. Knowledge of these records of human experience gives us the opportunity to feel a sense of connection to those who have come before us, as well as to our contemporaries.”
This painting is a portrait of an old woman who is sitting on a chair while facing to the left. She is wearing a yellow flower dress with a beige jacket while sitting in an empty room. Her beauty is illustrated by her curly, gray hair and also her wrinkled face, neck, and hands. These details is what makes her look real and pure. I like how detailed it is because it reminds me of my grandmothers.
3.How does this painting combine the style of the ancient Greek and Roman artists with that of the artists of the Middle Ages? Give examples.
Man has been creating art for over 30,000 years. There are cave drawings, sculptures, Egyptian art, Greek Art, Modern Art and plenty more but to many, the Renaissance Art period is considered to be most important. Never had so many geniuses in art lived at one time and never had so many pieces of cherished art been produced. Two examples of Renaissance paintings are Cigoli’s Adoration of the Shepherds and Moretto da Brescia’s Entombment. Both paintings posses the attributes that were popular during the Renaissance period which I will now contrast and compare.
The picture depicts a money trader and his wife's activities. It is a ordinary common plot. In the painting, the moneychanger is count money, and the scene is his shop, it is a genre scene. His wife sit near by him, she is reading a book of Martin Luther’s biblical translations. That give viewer didactic messages. But his wife is watching him; see how much money he counted. The painting is full of
The art and beauty in this painting is exemplified through the eyes of Boucher. It starts with a beautiful couple taking a rest after picking up some followers. Their clothing looks very elegant and colorful which shows that they are aristocrats. The man’s eyes are gazing at a shepherdess who gathered her own flowers. Their eyes are locked despite the man having his own woman right in front of him. The light brushstrokes of the dresses, flowers, and trees
Around the 16th century the Basilica’s condition could no longer be ignored and it was decided by the new Pope, Pope Julius II that the church needed to be completely redone this job was assigned to Donato Bramante in 1505. His design was had the building look like a Greek style cross from above and contained four apses with a very large dome in the center. The work for this project started on April 18th, 1506. The construction for this plan was stopped when Pope Julius II died, by this time a significant amount of work had been done but the question arose, whether the Basilica should have a central theme or a longitudinal theme like it had had before. This question took over 40 years to resolve itself. In this plans were drawn up and evaluated. In the end the Pope, Pope Paul III asked Michelangelo to create a design that incorporated the already standing 4 large pillars that had been constructed. Michelangelo’s idea was to keep the idea that Bramante had originally established but added thickened walls and areas that could be chiseled with intricate
Saint Peter’s Square is a design and built by Bernini between 1656 and 1667. It is a two sided, semi-circular church that symbolizing as stretched arms embracing the world. The church has four rows of columns that had 284 Doric columns and 88 pilasters.
Peter's as "an ornament of the earth ... the sublime of the beautiful." When viewing the basilica we can understand what he’s saying and cry. The façade is surrounded by columns designed to appear comforting to the viewer, as if the church itself was giving them a hug. These columns are ordinated with statues of apostles, including Saint Peter and Saint Paul. When interring the the basilica, which is designed as a Latina cross with a dome in the center of the crossing, there is a large nave that leads to the central dome. This nave has a number of chapels off them including the baptistery, the Chapel of the Madonna of Colonna, the altar of Saint Peter, and the Chapel of the Pieta. It also holds the tombs of many great Saints. The interior of St Peter’s is decorated with marble, lavished with gold, and a strange sort of stillness, despite the business within it. An ever-present ethereal beauty surrounds every corner of the basilica making one of the most memorable places in Vatican City,
The portrait is displayed horizontally with a gold trimmed frame. The subject is a female that looks to be in her early 20’s sitting upright on a large brown chair. If the viewer travels up the painting the first indication of the woman’s class is her satin, blue dress. The saturated blue shines and falls in the light like water. Paired with the dress are her exceptionally detailed endings to her sleeves. The lace is even painted as though it is translucent, allowing a little of the blue dress to show through the sleeve. Flowers throughout history have symbolized innocence of a woman and her virginity. The repeating theme of flowers, in the sleeve cuffs and ribbon) in the woman’s attired suggests her purity or innocent nature. Another very details section of the painting includes the corset/torso details. The sewing suggests texture in the torso with small beading in between. Towards the top of the chest in the center, the female seems to bear an extravagant, ribbon piece with a tear drop bead in the center. The light pink
When we look at the history of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, we always like to use the confinement of thinking and the liberation of ideas to sum up the two, especially in the art, the medieval paintings are often used in dark colors, deformed three-dimensional concept Showing the real world, and often less a bit human nature. And after the Renaissance, the painting masters are the opposite of it. I am not here to comment on their good or bad, but from the artistic point of view, to explore whether a good form of art needs to reflect the community and a wide range of civilizations
The ethical issues mentioned in this case study are the lack of morality and values from the St.Basil side and certain cultural issues. Morality is a code of conduct. Moral judgments concerned with what an individual or group believes to be the right or proper behavior in a given situation. In the given case scenario the avoiding the demolition was the right decision. The St.Basil was founded by sisters of Mary in 1894 with a mission of caring for those who had the greatest need. So by giving more importance to the business than the needs of the community, in effect, it is diverting from its mission, vision, and values. The lack of St. Basil’s commitment and compassion to the community needs are clearly visible when they turned a blind eye towards a repeated request from the community against demolition. By sticking on to demolition decision, evoked certain cultural issues and spirituality issues too. The chapel was serving
