Summary
Malathion has been introduced to our City Council here in Wilhelmville. We as a community are looking for a pesticide to kill these insects destroying our crops, however in reviewing information found and presented to us and our council we have a split decision. Below is what we have been presented with by concerned citizens of the community. When presenting this information to the members of the council will assist me and others in our decision whether this is the pesticide that we need to use here in our community.
Hazard identification

Some of the risks are getting cancer from the inhaling Malathion once it is airborne. You also have the factor of it getting on our children, especially out toddlers. We have the largest corn field in the county right behind the middle school. What about that? Tests have shown that Malathion case cause Asthma, trouble breathing and shortness of breath. I believe it is too much of a danger for our families and the members of this community. We must find another pesticide to use for our crops.

In the mid-20th century, farmers used a toxic insecticide named parathion in an attempt to control pests detrimental to their crops. Rachel Carson was a biologist who wrote pamphlets (Lear) on conservation and natural resources designed to inform people on the beauty of the living world. In an excerpt from her 1962 work Silent Spring, Carson calls upon the public to take action against the use of parathion by highlighting its catastrophic nature and vilifying the agricultural community for their negligence.
Identify and describe at least two resources that teachers can utilize in their planning and implementation. These can be text or web-based resources.
Although I feel that malathion, when correctly regulated, is perfectly safe for humans, I do not feel that it’s worth the impact it will have on the environment. Being highly toxic to important insects and fish will negatively affect the surrounding ecosystem. Once we began to deplete that, then there definitely won’t be any mosquitos left to worry

“The human history of the Yellowstone region goes back more than 11,000 years. From then until to the very recent past, many groups of Native Americans used the park as their homes, hunting grounds, and transportation routes. These traditional uses of Yellowstone lands continued until a little over 200 years ago when the first people of European descent found their way into the park. In 1872 a country that had not yet seen its first centennial, established Yellowstone as the first national park in the world. A new concept was born and with it a new way for people to preserve and protect

Switching from the expensive oil to alternative fuels has moved from a dream to reality. Today, there are dozens of alternatives to oil that are currently available us to be used. One alternative to oil that is being used more today is ethanol. Derived from plant materials, ethanol can be a cheaper, cleaner alternative to the gasoline that our vehicles run off. When going to gas pumps, one will notice that much of the gasoline is up to 10 percent of ethanol. According to our text, most ethanol in the U.S. is made from corn, yet ethanol can be made from any biomes-- including garbage. (Turk & Bensel, 2011)
Natural disasters occurring from the climate change could be on the rise. Global warming has been rumored to be causing more hurricanes, typhoons, cyclones, heavier monsoonal rains that cause major flooding, mud slides, and other disasters worldwide. A tropical cyclone, also referred to as hurricanes, typhoons, or cyclones, depending on where in the world the cyclone is occurring, are one of the world’s grandest shows of energy provided by nature. Hurricanes are large, swirling, low pressure storms that have sustained winds of over 74 miles an hour and are formed over warm ocean waters (NASA, n.d.). The purpose of this paper is to discuss hurricanes
The use of pesticides is an important decision that thousands of communities face each year. Nobody likes dealing with mosquitos and the diseases they bring so using chemicals and pesticides is an option but with other consequences. Mosquitos carry West Nile Virus that affects the city of Genericville every year with 50 cases projected this year in the city and two fatalities as well. On the other hand, the chemicals proposed for controlling the mosquito population has its own risks. The pesticide Malathion is also dangerous to people if they come in contact with it before it degrades. The potential for citizens of the city being exposed is almost a certainty
New Hampshire is known for having many farms spread out throughout the state, especially in Coos County. Because of this, many bugs come to survive off of the crops that grow here. If bugs keep eating the plants, then the quality of the crop will go down. It’s not just bugs that come to live off the plants, it is also animals like deer, bears, moose, and many more. All of these pests coming to steal and eat the plants can cause the land to lose moisture and lower the quality as well. This has affected the farming community greatly. It also affects stores and the people that shop there because the animals and bugs ruin a generous amount of crops. The less plants
This suggests that the roadsides was once beautiful and bloomed with healthy and lively vegetation; however, they are now destroyed due to the use of pesticides. From these examples, it can be shown that even though pesticide is beneficial, its deadly effects outweigh its benefits; in addition, it is a dangerous substances to the environment, organisms, and even human.
Up until recently, the Environmental Protection Agency along with the Texas government has approved of a pesticide, classified as a warfarin, to combat the invasion of wild hogs. By introducing an anthropogenic compound into an open system, it has the capabilities to migrate beyond the environment and affect numerous non target species. Great concern has been made adherent by individuals who make a living and hunt in the region. They are concerned not only for the wild hogs, but also for the ecosystem. Questions such as, what are the possibilities of a non-target species consuming the pesticide? How will it be distributed? What effect does it have on humans? The symptoms? The answers to these questions are currently being researched
