When Harry arrives at Hogwarts, he and the other first-years follow Hagrid into a giant castle. Harry and the other first years meet a strict Hogwarts teacher who tells them that they will be sorted into houses. These houses, she said, will be like your family-you will earn points for your house by triumphing, as lose points for trouble-making. They are told that they will be sorted into the houses depending on how well they do on a test. They are left to wait in silence. Suddenly a bunch of ghosts burst through the wall, talking, and see the students. They greet the students kindly and tell them they hope to see them in their old house. Based upon the talk of the kids, there is a bad house, Slytherin, that all bad wizards got into, even Voldemort. …show more content…

This was suspicious and Harry suspected that whatever was in that package was very important. Harry also meets a boy named Neville who is very clumsy and always gets into tight situations. This boy ends up falling off his broom during flying lessons and grievously injuring his arm. While the teacher takes him to the nurse, Malfoy finds a ball that the boy dropped and teases Harry with it. He goes up on his broom and tells Harry to come and get him. Harry, mounting his broom, realizes that he is a superb flyer and impresses all of the first years, even though he’s never seen a broom before this. Harry ends up meeting Malfoy in the sky, so Malfoy throws the ball. Harry goes into a fifty foot dive, pulling up just in time to lightly skim across the grass and pull up, catching the ball. Unfortunately, as the other students were congratulating Harry, the strict teacher Professor McGonagall came out and told Harry to follow her. Harry was sure she was going to expel him, but when Professor McGonagall came to ask for Wood, Wood turned out to be a person. And a Quidditch Captain at that. Quidditch was a game in the air played on broomsticks. And Professor McGonagall was asking Wood if she could admit Harry onto the Hogwarts Gryffindor Quidditch team, as a seeker. Wood said that Harry must’ve been the best seeker he had ever seen, light and speedy, and with good aim. Harry was shown the rules of Quidditch. There were four balls, the quaffle, which was thrown and caught and which the chasers tried to throw through the other team’s three hoops. The seeker blocked the balls, like a goalie with the 3 hoops. Two other balls were called the bludgers. Bludgers pelted themselves at players in order to knock the player off their brooms.
