My career that I am researching for my junior project is Medical Coding and Billing. Medical Coding and Billing are two different jobs. Medical Coding is when a patient has any medical procedure or exam such as going to the doctor for the stomach virus or even going to the hospital for a broken bone. They work with the insurance companies by putting a specific number into the computer. There’s CPT Codes which stands for Current Procedural Terminology which is “ Codes to better understand the services their doctor provided, to double check their bills or negotiate lower pricing for their healthcare services. (About Health, 2014).”

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Medical Coding and Billing field is growing faster than any other field (Medical Billing & Coding Careers). The reason for this is that the more doctors’ offices open up, the more the need for medical billers and coders. As of today there are over 8000 codes being used to describe every procedure you can imagine (Sloviter, Sept-Oct 2009). Now think about being a doctor. To start, I want to talk about what I observed and what I was told a regular day as a medical biller looks like. Mrs. West works five days a week in seven hour shifts. She wears business casual every day. There are not any uniforms required, which allows versatility amongst coworkers. Daily duties of the job include billing claims, filing insurance payments, resolving issues regarding medical claims, and invoicing patients. Each worker, in a business of just three employees, is generally in charge of an entire doctor’s office claims. Great post, there are so many important things that come along with learning medical billing and coding. I'm getting a little overwhelmed because there is so much material to cover. When I first started reading about the different coding edits and how to use them I was very confused because it mentioned that every code does not have a MUE or CCI edit. I did find a full list of edits on the CMS website so that could be helpful as well. Since CMS updates the national correct coding policy each January we have to be aware of the changes. The more practice that we get the better we'll understand them. As I was doing my research there were several websites that you could go to that will explain the code edits.This discussion was definitely a challenge
