Where do we go from here? What are the policies or laws that need to be made or regulated in order to function properly? Which are the problems that need to be addressed if we want to grow as a company? These are some of the questions that governs health care administrators daily. Understanding the market and predict it outcomes are some of the benefits of understanding economics. When we understand how is the market operating, we could be prepared for changes that occurs or even create them. Understanding economics open a window of opportunity and challenges to administrators.
According to Investopedia, Economics can be defined as The large set of interrelated economic production and consumption activities which aid in determining how scarce resources are allocated. Known this, empowers administrators with the wisdom of how to distribute resources, which areas need to be improved and which are the most important issues at the present. This information is used by policy makers in order to be competent with their responsibilities. How is the competitions of resources, services and profits in my location, but also external changes like government policies, the reduction of funds, among others. Recently, there has been a reform in the health care in United States. Before, there were millions that did not had access to health care due to being uninsured. Not having money for insurance affected adversely families in the United States. With the approval of Affordable Care Act, the situation has changed. there are still millions without insurance but we had achieved a substantial progress in Americans
The articles I chose for my annotated bibliography were about healthcare cost and quality. The theme in many of these articles was about healthcare cost and does it affect patients experience. In some settings like hospitals, the cost of quality affects patient experience. The largest component of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product goes to healthcare spending (17% in 2009), and yet the quality is unsatisfactory. It was also interesting to find out that more people die each year in the United States from medical errors than from highway accidents, breast cancer, or AIDS (National Academy of Science's Institute of Medicine, 2002).

I really enjoyed this article, as it went into effective financial planning. The 2 major categories of cost are total charges (the patient's bill) and the cost of providing services. These 2 costs can be defined mathematically in the following indices: average revenue per patient day and the cost per patient day.

There are several challenges surrounding the future and strategic direction in which health care should be heading. Accreditation, quality of health care and organization’s compliance; access to health care, maintaining a skilled workforce, information technology and pay for performance are some of the challenges that currently presenting itself in healthcare today. If health care is not dealt with appropriately it will have a significant effect an impact on the strategic direction in the future and direction of care.
