Thank you for your considering my application to the Applied Behavior analysis program. For all of my life I have known that I was going to help people. It could be said that it is in my DNA. I just never suspected what the capacity would be. On December 15thI graduated from Albright college, I began working at Melmark on December 16th. My first thought, on that first day was “Oh no, I can’t do this, I need to quit” That was over two years ago, and I have gone to work every day, with a smile on my face. While working at my first position, out of college, I discovered my passion. My passion, I find, is working with children and adults with autism and with people who suffer from addiction. Watching the smiles on their faces, the determination when they work to complete a goal, and just the progress makes every hardship worth it, I love it. Each day, in my position as an ABA, I run behavior support plans, IEPs, teaching plans and other protocols, and each day I truly wish that I could have contributed to these plans, protocols, and IEPs. I ponder the recommendations that I could come up with, I wonder that if I had been able to participate in these conversations to create these plans could I have brought something else to the table, a different viewpoint. Affecting the way that the plans are written and in turn ran, I feel that I could make a big difference in the lives of the children and their families also. This week of my behavior change project went more successful than the past week. I noticed that this week I worked on my time management and balanced my time between school, community service, and myself. It was much easier to be motivated and do exercise because of the time change. Before daylight savings by the time I completed my shifts it was already dark outside and windy. However now that I have more time at 7:00 pm it is still sunny and warm so the weather definitely motivated me to do at least a 30-minute exercise. 4. Why it is important to you to study this discipline in a school that emphasizes cultural awareness, competence, and understanding of diversity (see our Commitment to Diversity Statement).

Are you the type of person who wants to be able to go to work everyday doing something you love, helping others who need it, and getting a smile on your face just by the smallest of things that someone does? That is the type of person I am, which is why I chose the career path of a Behavior Specialist. A Behavior Specialist is someone who works with a person who may have a disability, and they study and work with them to make things as easy as possible for their daily life. They focus on the perception of life, however sometimes hesitate to present the strong conclusions how behaviors cause certain emotion (Thompson). A Behavior Specialist is also known as a Social Psychologist, because they study how a person’s mental life and behavior are shaped by interactions with other people (“Pardon Our Interruption”). The four main behaviors that Behavior Specialists look for when studying the actions of a person are, “Self-awareness, emotion, motivation, and feelings” (“Modeling the Early Human Mind”). Although I believe being a Behavior Specialist is a dream job, there are always issues that go along with any job, in this case emotions play a role in the occupation working with people who need extra help.

Demographic information was collected as part of the survey. Fifty-five percent (n = 169) of the 309 respondents in the analyzed sample were female and 45% (n = 140) were male. In the assisted living at Fair Haven Retirement Center there is a mix of residents who are Africans Americans and Caucasians. The majority of the residents within assisted living are Caucasians. There are more females than males within assisted living. Throughout the assisted living there is no other race that resides within that department other African Americans and Caucasians. On page 13 you will see two separate pie charts that will show the customer mix of how males and females residents that there are in the assisted living. Specific behavior goal: I will increase my physical activity and stamina by completing a 60-minute work out 5 times a week by the end of the next 8 weeks.

The age of the participants are in the range from 18 to 61, with a average age of 36. Among these participants, 55% were white, 36% were black/African American, 5% were Native American, and 4% were another races.(Tull, 2012;Gratz, 2012;Coffey,2012 p.765) The majority of the participants were single, which is 70% of the participants. And 47% of the participants have a annual income below $10,000. With regard to their educational backgrounds, 27% did not complete high school or receive a GED, 35% had completed high school or received a GED, 39% had attended at least some college or technical school which 7% of them had successfully graduated.

The tests for normality, examining standardized skewness and the Shapiro-Wilks test indicated the data were statistically normal for origination rates. However, the Levene's F test revealed a violation of the homogeneity of variance assumption by race was not met for female originations (p = .025). As such, the Welch's F test and the posthoc James-Howell procedures were used. The results presented in Table 4 capture the one-way ANOVA for the race effect on origination rate. For females, the one-way ANOVA revealed a statistically significant main race effect on origination rates, Welch’s F(4, 9.87) = 30.07, p < .001, ω2 = .83. My primary goal for the Follow-Up Period of the Behavior Reduction Exercise was to maintain my elimination of added (unnatural) sugars from my diet. I decided to continue the length of the reduction exercise through Lent in the hopes that this exercise can facilitate acquiring a lifestyle change. In other words, by continuing the length of this exercise, this behavior or restraint will establish healthier eating habits, because added sugars had become such an unhealthy part of my diet, and this healthy habit will hopefully assist me in establishing a permanent lifestyle change. I also continued to try to adjust my alternative coping behaviors by adopting the practice of meditation when I am stress (instead of nail biting or eating chocolate).

Behavioral analyst main goal is to better the lives of the individuals they serve. Improving the life for these individuals could mean teaching independence, modifying severe behavior, or giving clients environmental accommodations. Improving behavior consists of defining the baseline for a behavior and analyzing if a behavior meets the needs for change (Cooper, Heron, & Heward, 2014). Measurement is needed in order to keep record of behavior and to analyze any behavior improvements. Among Procedures for defining the correct type of measurement for a behavior, defining the social validity and importance of behavior is also relevant for determining if an intervention was applicable to the client.

It is crucial to acknowledge that my population encompasses a wide range of cultures since it is very diverse. Latino can refer to Cuban, Puerto Rican, Mexican, Ecuadorian, Peruvian, Colombian, Honduran, Guatemalan, Venezuelan, Dominicans, and the list goes on. In this study, I hope to get a good representation of the large population and to make sure I do so, I have decided to gather my sample from 3 different regions. This would be done to stray away from biases or community racial domination. In consequence, I would assure that the 3 high school and 3 college

Although the results may have been more robust if the participants were selected from a wider population, instead of only minorities from the District of Columbia. This would make the sample size more representative of the population of interest.
