Children who are in poor health are more prone to infection and illness as their immune system will be low and could be prone to scabies, stomach upsets, and any other child hood illness.

The children should be seen as equal no child or group of children should be treated differently because of their gender, religion, disability ect. All children have the right to be protected from abuse. The children’s parents are informed because they are aware of the policies and procedures. All concerns and allegations should be taken seriously because this could lead to a referral to the child’s social care services, Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) if the allegation is against a staff member.

For my discovery event, I went on a tour of The California Health Care Facility in Stockton. I selected this event because I was very curious to know what it was like to work in a prison setting. My desire for future work settings has been between a nursing facility and prison facility. Before the visit I expected to know how a group was done in lower level prison and the safety precautions implemented. The facility tour was lead by CTRS John Widenmann and Gaganjot Singh. The first thing we toured was there medical mall building where all the prisons went to thee appointments for physical therapy occupational therapy, dentist, diagnostics, x-rays and medical needs. John told us that some inmates walk with out a guard because they have a card to specify where there suppose to be. If they refuse to go to there appointment than force is used too make them. Along the tour he mentioned that the rec therapists sees the inmate five time more in a week than other members of a treatment team. We were able to visit a facilitation room, which had a class for inmates to do artwork. One of the CTRS on staff mentioned that it is hard to have supplies for the art projects.

Another aspect that was mentioned by Jones as a challenge to the mission of ODRC is the overall negative environment. As he mentioned, for much of his time with ODRC, he worked in the institutions with the offenders during their incarceration time. As one can imagine, these are not, generally, positive environments. As the Warden, William has a very tough job. He is in charge of everyone in the prison and now a days “focus has shifted to ensuring the safety and security of the community, staff, and inmates” (Ruddell, 2008). Now that the budget was cut, William believes that an off-site work release program would be beneficial in making sure the prison isn’t as crowded all the time. Staffing has become an issue and the union representative wants to know how the warden intents to ensure the safety of the officers. The ethical question here is what should he do in order to make sure his staff is safe. The warden is motivated by the fact that he does not want to lose officers due to them feeling threatened. Therefore something needs to be done to ensure they will stick around and do their job without being harmed. As the

Many of the challenges faced within the prison system are the same as those that are faced within other criminal justice organizations but there are some that are different challenges. Some of the same are workforce challenges. Recruitment, hiring, retention, training, and succession planning are a few of those workforce challenges. Budgets have an impact on these challenges. Technology is also a challenge. Keeping up with the latest technology can be very challenging. There is always a need for management information systems, fingerprint systems, enhanced security systems, and communication systems.
