Criminal Case Study Theodore Bundy, also known as Ted, was born on November 24, 1946 in Burlington, Vermont to Eleanor Cowell who secretly was ashamed. Eleanor was a 22 year old single mother whose parents were very religious and humiliated of Ted. After Ted was born, Eleanor brought him to her parents who lived in Philadelphia, where he was raised as the adoptive son of his grandparents. This led to his real mom being called his sister. A few years later, Eleanor and Ted moved to Tacoma, Washington where Eleanor married Johnnie Bundy in 1951. As far as everyone knew, Ted grew up in a working-class, Christian family that cared and loved for him.
Ted was a shy, bright kid who did very well in school, but not as much with his peers. Around the age of three Ted had caught an interest in knives and as a teenager he would walk around at night looking for discarded pornography or open windows to view women through. He attended the University of Washington where he fell in love with a pretty young woman who had long, dark brown hair and was from California. Ted decided to be his own lawyer and during a trip to the Courthouse library, he jumped out of a window and made his first escape. He was captured eight days later. Then in December of 1975, Ted climbed out of a hole in the ceiling of his cell that he created. He lost 30 pounds just to fit through the hole and it took the police 15 hours to find out that Ted was missing from his cell. By then Ted was long gone, heading to Tallahassee, Florida. On January 14, 1978, Ted broke into the Chi Omega sorority house at Florida State University. He attacked four young students, killing two of them. Then, on February 9, 1979, he killed a 12-year-old girl named Kimberly Leach. After that, Ted was pulled over by police and taken back into
