During the Civil War, the advances of the Industrial Revolution introduced great changes in the industrial and technological development. Both the North and the South created many advances in railroad and water transportation. The Union, however, was far more advanced technologically than the Confederate states . Consequently, the North made greater and more effective use of progress in weapons, communication, transportation and medicine than South . Although the industrial development made the nation very widely known, both the south and the north were divided because their differences.

The American Civil War was fought over cultural differences between the South and the North, namely slavery. The differences between the South and the North had an impact on the actual war as well. The North had more resources to commit towards the war, the North had better political leaders during the war, and the South had an easier military strategy to carry out.

Also, both North and South had their ups and downs. The North was having a hard time with their crops and other things. The South on the other hand wasn't going through a lot of personal things. The North and the South had many differences, the most important dissimilarity was their level of industrialization. The North prioritized industry and railroads, while the South remained mostly agricultural. Northern production, transportation networks, and economy drastically out-performed the South during the civil war, leading to a Northern victory. Firstly, Massive industrialization in the North meant factories were being built across all states, this explosion of expansion really set the base for how far ahead the North would get from the confederacy.

Abraham Lincoln once stated, "A House divided against itself cannot stand. I Believe this government cannot endure, permanently half slave and half free. I do not expect the house to fall. But I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing, or all the other". More than anything else, differing interpretations about the Civil War drove the debate over the meaning of the Constitution and of the Union.

The growing decline in morale and suffrage on the Confederate home front eventually led to its collapse between 1864 and 1865. Seeing as it was the main arena for combat during the Civil War, the south felt many effects from the war (N). The prolonged war ultimately led to an economic decline and lack of resources in the Confederacy along with a negative sentiment among southerners (N). Due to the internal demise, the Confederacy could not carry on a war without the support of its home front.

As a result of the U.S. Civil War, many newly freed slaves were in search of a better life as free men. With help from Congress in March of 1865, an organization known as the Freedmen’s Bureau was created with the intentions of helping the freedmen and their families. The organization was the first of its type to be established federally for the main purpose of social welfare. With leadership from many military Generals, the Bureau was able to provide the freedmen with necessities such as clothing, land, food, hospitals, housing and most importantly schools. Education had been a major demand since the first days the slaves were freed. Freedmen were given educational opportunities through what would be known as the Freedmen’s Bureau Schools. Eventually over time, the number of blacks attending schools had grown to be thousands. The Freedmen’s Bureau Schools would have had longevity and more educational opportunities for freed slaves after the Civil War if not for Congress interruption.

During both the civil war and civil war reconstruction time periods, there were many changes going on in the Union. The Emancipation Proclamation, as well as legislation such as the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth amendments, was causing a new awakening of democracy; while the renouncing of secession by the South marked a definite triumph for Nationalism. As well, the government was involved in altercations of its own. During reconstruction, the legislative and executive branches eventually came to blows over the use of power. The nation was being altered by forces which caused, and later repaired, a broken Union.

The majority of speculations regarding the causes of the American Civil War are in some relation to slavery. The North and South both had very different geography and climate from each other.
