The Art of Personal Evangelism

Charles Spurgeon lays out a comprehensive ministerial guide for students and pastors. There is an enormous amount of energy directed towards the minister’s lifestyle, spirituality, and sincerity. Spurgeon makes the case that ministry must be handled with precision, attentiveness, and truth. He further shares, “What a dreadful thing it will be for me if I should be ignorant of the power of the truth which I am preparing to proclaim” (2010, Chap. I). The preacher must take great care in managing his own soul before pursuing the heart of others.

In the book of King Jesus Gospel author McKnight seeks to reexamine our understanding of the gospel in light of scripture. The author also discuss the recounts of a story of evangelosing in order to get a decision for christ from someone who clearly wasn’t interested. McKnight concludes that the evangelical system is broken because of a misunderstanding of the gospel

Evangelism is the duty of every believer. In Colossians 4:2-6, the apostle Paul gives us clear instruction about how we are to do the work of evangelism. Paul begins by telling us that if we want to be effective in evangelism, we must give constant attention and priority to prayer. Prayer must have a central place in the life of a Christian. There are two reasons why we must be devoted to prayer. 1. Prayer allows us to develop and maintain an intimate relationship with God. Through prayer, God purposes to deepen your personal relationship with Him. If your prayer life is inconsistent or weak, then your relationship with God will be weak. 2. Prayer gives us the privilege to participate in God’s work. Our prayers are part of God’s plan for accomplishing His will in this world. Through our prayers, we partner with God in changing the world.

William Fay lays out the structure of how a Christian can adequately and courageously share their confidence in "Share Jesus Without Fear." The book sets up extremely well as Fay 's techniques are pragmatic and conversational. The inquiries and Scriptures that he directs the peruser through are not hard to recall or comprehend, and are composed with the goal that anybody will feel more great in sharing their confidence – from the new devotee, to the tepid Christian, to the person who essentially needs a push or needs direction in what to say or how to say it. The general substance of the book is not domineering which makes for a moderately simple read, while testing the peruser to make that additional push to be evangelistic. Christ himself called his devotees to be an evangelistic people (Matt. 28:19-20, Acts 1:8).

Evangelization is a useful tool in compelling others towards Christ. When we evangelize through working we express how much our beliefs rely on both prayer and work. James 2:14 says, “What does it profit, my brethren, if a man says he has faith but has not works”? This passage from the Bible shows us again that we are meant to go out and live our faith and evangelize through our deeds. God allows different evils so that he can allow for these different goods, some of these goods can be achieved through evangelization. Moments of working through our deeds

In mission-work, there is a need at times for a Christ of Culture approach in that the missionary must blend-in to the culture to be able to reach the intended group. At the same time, it is important to not be syncretistic so a Christ above Culture and Christ the Transformer of Culture approaches much also be used at the same time to help balance the approach. The same applies to the evangelist – he must be able to reach the intended audience but not by watering-down the Gospel message.

When sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we must have a heart for God, because if we have a heart for God, we can have a heart for His people. Through evangelism, we can reach the non-believers in effort to convert them over to Christianity, so they can experience the love of Jesus Christ. Evangelism is the core, the heart that leads non-believers to salvation. As they repent and confess their sins, they become a part of Jesus Christ family, and the power of the Holy Spirit is imparted into them (Doerksen, 2012, p. 3).

Jesus commissioned all believers to spread the Good News of salvation in Matthew 28:18-20, “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.” There are many methods of evangelism for the believer to use in sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. These methods were developed to help the believers that find sharing difficult.

Instead of trying to make sure I know the right words to say or do, I just have to talk about Jesus and how awesome, confusing, kind, and the list could go on and on. I liked what the author said about instead of evangelism, discipleship. The author says “evangelism leaves hurt people hurt, sinful people sinful, and religious people religious. Discipleship is a journey that requires change, whereas evangelism is just information” (Medearis 126).

This paper takes a look at Evangelism in 2016. It will discuss some views based upon studies of the Millennial Generation and how they evangelize. Over recent years’ studies have shown that although Evangelism amongst some generations seem to be declining. Evangelism amongst the Millennial Generation seems to be exploding. This paper will generate some personal synopsis based upon my most recent research. It will answer the question by presenting what some churches are not doing, to bring us to a place of self-examination. This is in no way an exhaustive study, but one that is presented that has caused the writer to take a second look at Evangelism within her own call. Christ has admonished us in Mark 16:15 “Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Finally, it will conclude with a basic summation on what this writer believes should be the goals of every born again believer.

When you think of the word evangelism, what is the first thought that comes to mind? I believe that many Christian’s speak loose of this word, or really do not strive to preach the Gospel as the Bible instructs us to do. This module has taught me a new approach to evangelism in order to be effective in reaching people with the Gospel through analyzing people group, an area and a strategy for planning.

One of the primary directives for God’s people is to go into the world to be the salt and light of Christ and to bear witness to his kingdom in word and deed. Yet it is not uncommon to find this call quickly set on the back burner to take care of more pressing needs within the Church. In this CPC I hope evangelism can be understood more holistically and can be brought to the front burner of our minds and hearts. I hope that we can reexamine what we mean by evangelism and reconsider what our roles in evangelism. I also want us to explore some of the joys and tensions of
