It’s no surprise that humans feel emotion. They can be angry, happy, and more importantly, they can feel sadness. Sadness is a hard thing to cope with. Whether you lost a loved one, or your favorite team losing a big game, people have all been through it. Sadness can also be dangerous, and can make you do unspeakable things. But this is where happiness comes in. happiness can help you get over your problem and be hopeful for the future. Happiness can be achieved by one of three things; focusing on what will make you happy in the future, appreciating what you already have, and just doing what you love. To start off, happiness can be achieved by focusing on on what will make you happy in the future. Daniel Gilbert, a social psychologist, and Professor of Psychology at Harvard University, states in Source #1 that when it comes to predicting how you’ll feel in the future, you are most likely wrong. This means that a new car, lot of money, big house, will only make you adapt to those things, and won’t leave you happy for long. In fact, those things will most likely make life more complicated, and often leave you stressed. Gilbert and his collaborator Tim Wilson came to the conclusion that humans experience the dimming excitement over not just a new car, but also over an object or event that they presume will make them happy. It’s important to choose the things that will make you happy in the future. This includes maybe spending time with friends and families, doing a
Lazy fall days, colorful leaves, cooler weather, birds singing, frogs croaking, crickets chirping, relaxing to the sounds of the outdoors. Waves of water crashing upon each other, fishing, telling stories around a campfire, making s’mores, memories with family and friends; this is what happiness is to me. Happiness is in the eye of the beholder, what brings happiness to one person may not bring happiness to another person. When I think of the word happiness, I think of descriptive words like Contentment, enjoyment, satisfaction, delightfulness, something that makes a person smile. I have always looked at the word happiness as a feeling, an action, never have I thought of happiness as an overall affect. However, it is a proven fact, that happiness can affect the over-all health and longevity of human life. Happy people live longer than those that are lonely, stressed, or depressed.
In order to be truly happy we must find the perfect balance of accepting our emotions and learning to cope with them. Like Joy, we often become obsessed with the thought of being happy and forget that its not possible to be happy without the aid of all other emotions and like Sadness, we think of ourselves as pathetic and worthless if we feel down, which is not the case at all. We try to hide our true emotions, in fear of looking weak in front of others. The only way for true happiness is to find a balance with all emotions and be in tune with
Have you ever truly sat and considered what makes you truly happy? Often times, people answer directly with the response of money. We say this without deeply considering all that we have to be grateful for. Happiness is not achieved through wealth instead through experiences, the family we love, and the nature that surrounds us, literature has created a great impact upon the ideals we consider to create our happiness.
Happiness is a key to everybodys life. Even the most depressed man on earth has a little happiness deep down inside. Its what keeps us striving to fulfil our needs and wants on an everyday basis. There is not one kid who does not get excited over a dollar to spend at the candy shop. What about the feeling of getting a promotion at your job, or even finding the cure for cancer. Being happy is not just healthy, but it is also rewarding for each and every individual. We strive to find anything that will turn a bad day to a good one. Individuals will compromise to attain their happiness. You can not get what you want without giving something first.
By emphasizing happiness, we risk our lives in different ways. People spend so much money on buying self-help books which are worth nothing. Sometimes, being too happy can be harmful. It ends
Based on Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi “Happiness Revisited” People have many different points of view about how to achieve happiness, it can be based on the type of life one is having, an experience, a way of living, culture, and religion. Happiness can be defined in many ways but happiness is not something we find or get just by magic. In “Happiness Revisited” by Csikszentmihalyi, the author emphasizes that “It is by being fully involved with every detail of our lives, whether good or bad, that we find happiness, not by trying to look for it directly.” And just as he stays that happiness is when someone is involved in everything that happens in live either good or bad, one example that I think Csikszentmihalyi will describe as an optimal experience
Happiness is one of the most important emotions; with happiness, all cares disappear, which is why it is so important for people to be happy before perishing. In an article titled “Why Being Happy Is Important”, Collette Gee, author, speaker, and relationship specialist, explains how happiness can affect you:
Essentially, seeking happiness is necessary in life. We often hope to find happiness from other people, other things around us and forget that we can create it by ourselves. The novel “The happiness project” by Gretchen Rubin is sufficient evidence. The author states, “I am happy – but I’m not as happy as I should be.”(13) Then she started a project within a year to change her life and seek for a happier life. By making a list of things she has to do in the next twelve months, the author have done many things which affects her “Vitality” (1), her “Marriage” (38), her “Leisure” (112), her “Friendship” (141),etc. positively so that she can achieve her goal, which is a life full filed of happiness as she dreamed before. We can also do that. We know that if everyone of us set a goal and live purposely, we are all happy. However, we can be happier if we know how to change ourselves on the right way. We can make ourselves happy by doing simple things in our everyday life.
Human emotion is very fragile. It is not a flat highway, but rather a rollercoaster that continues until death. Achieving happiness does not mean being happy all of the time. With being happy comes a range of other emotions. In fact, it is scientifically healthier for a person to experience high and low moods instead of only high moods. This means that it is better to be happy sometimes and
Happiness is one of the strongest emotions we have as humans. However, it is also one of the biggest deceptions we face. As David Brooks states, “Happiness wants you to think about maximizing your benefits. Difficulty and suffering sends you on a different route” (567). Happiness can lead to greediness and games played on the mind. As Americans, we are fortunate for many modern day conveniences, however, these conveniences create a sense of greed that we do not notice. These modern conveniences births a need for instant satisfaction to be happy. An article by International Pathwork Foundation quotes, “Only if I can have what I want, the way I want it, and when I want it, can I have happiness”.
Three Grand Essentials of Hapipiness for the Returning Citizens and Their families written by: odivick
Weiner is continuing his research, by staying with a journalist friend from New York; her name is Susan. She invites him to meet with a couple of Swiss people to interview their views on happiness. A wealthy banker, a doctor, and a former Hollywood agent who’s lived in Switzerland for the past ten years. Weiner asks them on a scale of 1-10; “how happy are you these days?”, and the responses are as expected, many eights and nines and even a seven. The Swiss interviewees were as shocked as Weiner to see that they were pretty happy with their lives. During the interview with them, he further asks, “what is it that makes them happy?” , the doctor replies, “ Envy.”, explaining that the Swiss will do anything to avoid envy with each other. They live by rules and judgment. Examples: no flushing the toilet after ten or no laughing after midnight, etc.
Our emotions and feelings play a major part in how we feel and think. Most of us are conditioned to believe that positive events, such as a raise or a financial windfall will increase our happiness, and it does but majority of us will fall back to the level of happiness we were before the positive events. Authentic happiness teaches us that in order to sustain lasting happiness, we must savor life’s joys, reflect on past accomplishments, and be grateful for everything and everyone in our life. If we commit ourselves to our goals and values we can all achieve authentic happiness.
When you hear the word happiness, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Do you think of material possessions like designer clothes and accessories, the newest iPhone with the highest possible storage capacity, or a shiny red supercar? Do you think the amount of money you have or your current financial status has an effect on how happy you are? Plenty of college students, myself included, would associate happiness with possessing items like these or just having a lot of money in general. In today’s society, one common belief about social class is that the richer and more money or things that one has, the happier this will make them. This belief is reinforced by countless advertisements we see and hear everywhere, whether that be on
Happiness. The only known definition to branch off of this word is, “the state of being happy”. Happiness. Is there only one definition of what happiness truly is? As we indulge in the world of We, we are often confronted with this theme and must decipher the meaning ourselves. Constructed and constricted happiness follows this dystopian society as the protagonist records his daily occurrences in each chapter. Stripped of individuality, these people live in homes made of glass so they can be monitored with ease by the authority inside the walls. Notably, identical blue uniforms drape themselves over the bodies of each and every person, who is commonly known as a number. Scheduling their days by following an hourly advent procedure, these numbers only have two hours in a day of recreational activity. As assumed, this recreational time is structured in a way where numbers march along in groups of four with the anthem of the Single State plays triumphantly throughout the streets. During the weeks, a number is often given one hour every few days to engage in sexual activities with another number who owns a pink slip. In like manner, love and marriage do not exist in this society so quantities of pink slips are given out based on a number’s need for sexual interaction. These pink slips are used entirely for recreation and not procreation. According to the One State, happiness and freedom are incompatible within a society. Because of this, the State has removed freedom from these
