My paper is about the events leading up to Pearl Harbor and if the attack plans were known

prior to the attack. In this paper, I intend to prove the theory that the American government did know

of the attack plans before it actually happened. The attack on Pearl Harbor has always been a topic

of debates whether it was know by the United States before the attack or not. In this paper I

plan on proving it true that the high officials in the government knew about the attack before

it happened including Roosevelt.

The attack on Pearl Harbor may have happened on December 7, 1941, but there were

events in China and Japan ten years before that could have lead to the attack. In the 1930s

Japan started a campaign into China taking land. Japan pushed and took many supply ports on

China 's coast.(The History Rat) They tried to push further but could not get past the Chinese resistance.

So instead of a direct assault the Japanese tried to besiege the whole country by trying to cut it off

from all supply routes. The Japanese even went around China to France and went through it to block

off trade from the east side of China. This plan was going to work but America opposed this

invasion. America cut off oil trade to Japan, since having no internal way of getting oil, the

Japanese became angry but they did not quit. Then FDR as a sign of power pulled the entire

American Navy and stationed it in Pearl Harbor, right on Japan 's back door. (FDR and Pearl
