Global warming is the recent and ongoing rise of temperature on a global scale. Over the past century, the Earth's average temperature has risen 1.4°F (Carlowicz, 2010). Global warming is the effect of an excessive amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Greenhouse gasses trap heat from escaping back into space to keep the Earth from freezing, this is called the Greenhouse Effect. An excessive amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere trap too much heat, thus, causing Earth's temperature to rise.

Global warming is the rise of average temperature in the earth’s atmosphere since the late 19th century. Since the beginning of the early 20th century, the earths mean surface temperature had increased by around 0.8 degrees. Warming of the climate system had become more obvious and scientists are 90% sure that the main cause of the increase in temperature in due to the increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases due to human activities such as deforestation and burning of fossil fuels.

The green house gases are mainly caused by humans which also means that , the humans are causing global warming. Humans have been releasing gases into the air as they go on with their modern lives. The main gas that goes into the atmosphere is carbon dioxide and that comes from everyone, 28% comes from transportation ,10% from agriculture, 20% from industry, 10% commercial and residential, 32% electricity that's 82% of carbon dioxide that's in the atmosphere. The other 18% comes from Methane 9%, nitrous oxide 6%, Fluorinated gases 3%. The first time they discovered and saw the increase in greenhouse emissions was back in 1800’s when the first industrial revolution was happening the scientist discovered this by studying the ancient ice, they also discovered that the level of the carbon dioxide was 290 parts per million (ppm). By 1960 Charles Keeling measured the level of carbon dioxide and it measured 315 ppm. Instead of the rays reflecting back to space, they collect in the atmosphere resulting in higher temperatures. Due to Global Warming, Antarctica is losing the majority of its ice resulting in starvation of many animals. Polar bear populations are seeing a decrease in their population due to global warming. They do not have enough seals to hunt because the lack of sea ice. The causes of global warming are the burning of fuels. The societal view that everyone should have a car and you are viewed lesser if you don’t is a remote cause. Issues that blend into global warming would be the political and economic issues such as the recent political race between presidents where global warming was given more light. Immediate effects that are being seen are the ice melting in polar-regions, and the increased flooding in regions. Long term effects are the decline in animal populations and the increase of ocean water temperatures. The Earth’s population needs to look at the causes of this dangerous thing, and began taking action. There are many causes to this disaster, but I am going to focus on how burning fossil fuels have impacted the environment.

There are facts the glaciers are melting, the sea is warming and causing the levels of the water to rise which is causing all wildlife to scramble to find a safe place to go. Global warming is the gradual rise of the earth’s surface temperature, caused by many natural and manmade processes that continue to affect our environment. The release of carbon dioxide and methane gases are the two main contributors for the changes in the global climate patterns. Climate change causes the sea level rise, shrinking ice sheets, declining arctic sea ice, glacial retreat, extreme weather events, ocean acidification, decreased snow cover. Because of these, the food chain is affected and the population of the species are decreasing. So, global warming is one of the most serious issues that the world is facing today.
