The definition of a subculture is “a cultural group within a larger culture.” By this statement, I am a part of the Christianity subculture. This has proven to be paramount to my attitude and behavior. For example, the doctrine that is taught dictates the way I interact with others verbally, the way I treat others, the way I feel as a person, and how my emotions are shown. With regards to verbal interaction, the Holy Bible says “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. - Ephesians 4:29 (KJV)”. I do my best to speak as politely as possible to others. I give them the respect that I would wish upon myself. “ And as ye would that men should …show more content…
As stated earlier, the verse taken from Luke 6:31 is a perfect quote to describe the way I treat others. Most people would want to be treated with kindness, respect, and courtesy. I believe that I do this well. By treating people this way, I am in turn treated similarly. This is commonly known as, “The Golden Rule”. The way I feel as a person is directly affected by the scripture of God. “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. - John 16:33 (KJV)”. This verse is essentially telling us to be happy, and to have peace. I believe that this is done well, and shown through my actions. I consider myself to be a happy, and an enthusiastic person. Being happy is a great feeling, and I take pride in the fact that I can be happy despite anything that is metaphorically thrown at me. These ideals are a component to the way I handle my emotions. “He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city. - Proverbs 16:32 (KJV)” This is one of the many verses that tell us to control our emotions. There are also many verses that give us advice for any emotion that we are feeling. If you are feeling depressed, anxious, or are feeling any form of negative emotion, you can consult the Bible,
A subculture is a part of society that has different ways of doing things that stray from the dominant or mainstream culture. It can sometimes be described as a stereotype. Its members have little commitment to the category. A subculture is different from the dominant culture, but is not necessarily seen as bad, and is generally seen as "okay" with the rest of the dominant culture. It's members still function as a part of
All my life, I have been told that I should treat others the way how I want to be treated. That I should follow the Golden Rule and treat others with the utmost dignity and kindness in order to get the same treatment in return. Although I tried to follow this rule, I often ended up breaking it. I still occasionally mistreat others to seem superior, to feel as if I am worth more in society. Almost everyone does it because they often desire superiority in their community, to feel as if they are better than others and that they are worth more. We can occasionally break the Golden Rule by treating people with cruelty and disrespect to make ourselves seem wealthier, in better social standing, or racially to others. Although we profess a belief in
I have learned that I am made in the image of God himself and he would not treat someone, speak to others or think about someone in a disrespectful manner. God would do to them what he would want done to him. I need to do the same thing to others as I would want them to do to me. I believe that God has a purpose for everyone and I need to look at the other person as someone God has placed in my path to show His love for them and to tell them about God’s salvation. God wants me to be respectful and to keep my thoughts pure towards others at all times. I have learned this through the Question of Morality/Ethics in my biblical worldview.
Christianity is one of the most influential religions on both ancient and modern Western society, with the religion based on the teachings of the prophet Jesus Christ who lived approximately between the years of 5 BC and 33 AD. It is claimed that Christ was the son of God whose spirit was embodied and sent to Earth as a human being to bring peace and prosperity to the less fortunate, and absolve the world of its sin. Jesus preached a doctrine of a supreme monotheistic god who ruled over the universe, as well as ethics and morals especially centred on the concept of faith and forgiveness. If one was to live their life in accordance to the Will of God and the teachings of Christ found in the written word of the Holy Bible, one would be absolved of their sin and ascend to the spiritual realm of God, known as Heaven, after their physical death.
Unlike many cultures as culture is defined as “all of the ways of knowing, acting, thinking, and feeling that humans acquire as members of societies; when taken together, these ways compose the total way of life of a particular group” which commonly refers to people of a particular age range, status, or background. The subcultures of churches like Maranatha welcome people of all ages and backgrounds coming together for the sole purpose of serving God. The culture of the church is much different than other cultures as well in that most of the time meeting together is spent in listening to preaching, singing, and prayer with some but less interaction between members during normal meetings. Churches have a heart for missions and send out to people all over the world in order to spread the knowledge of God. Believers in the church encourage members to live by God’s laws laid out in the bible and when necessary try and steer each other in the right direction if they seem to be diverging from God’s laws. The material culture of dress in the various subcultures varies greatly with traditional churches being more formal and the latter modern churches adopting a more casual style. In either of these churches on the opposite ends of the spectrum wearing the opposite apparel would be a folkway and give a sense of being out of place. Because churches like Maranatha want people to feel welcome and accepted many churches have adopted a wide range of apparel styles so no one feels like they are breaking a folkway. The practice of communion can vary greatly within the various subcultures of the biblical Christian faith. Communion at Maranatha is practiced as
Subcultures are around us everywhere. It’s a group within a larger culture, who have something in common. An example of this would be in ‘Body Ritual among the Nacirema’ which is a story filled with weird perspectives and traditions. Including the charm-box of the household shrine and the medicine men that have an imposing temple, or latispo. Culture is such a strong aspect in people as it determines how a person behaves and does things, which is shown in this book. The Nacirema people are not so far off from us modern day Americans.
You feel happy when you are optimistic. This can result in you feeling more energetic, give you brighter eyes, and bring you success and happiness. You also walk with more confidence and have a stronger voice. Also, your positivity can spread to others, however, any negativity can also spread. Some ways to be positive are to not allow what other people say about you get to you. Other ways are to smile more, try to only visualize positive things, use positive words when talking to people, and don’t give up. (Sasson, The Power of Positive Thinking, Paragraphs 1, 14, 22, 23, 24, 25, and 27) These are great examples of why you would want to be optimistic and respond to conflict with positivity.
Subculture is a branch off of culture that explains a person view. According to Chapter Three, Culture, and the Culture-Learning Process, authors Cushner, McClelland, and Safford (2009), states “Subculture refers to a social group with shared characteristics that distinguished it in some way for the larger group in which it is embedded” (p. 62). A subculture talks about a group of people that have a different view on culture than the one they grew up with. In “My Life in a Bag” activity during class, I had a rosary bead in there to represent my religion. I grew up in a strong Catholic family that always went to church every Sunday. As I grew up, I realized that religion is important to me, but I didn’t think it was necessary for me to go to church every Sunday when I could talk and pray to God in my own home. I also had a bad experience with the church itself and not my religion. My grandpa was very ill and his one last wish was to go back to his church before his time was up. However, he was divorced and his church did not believe in divorce and considered it to be a sin. They would not let my grandpa back in the church and he was devastated. That changed the way I looked at my religion and realized that I could
There are many religious cultures, and within those cultures, there are subcultures. Subcultures are a cultural group within a larger group that branched off and have different interests and beliefs than those of the larger group. The Amish, Mormon and the Jehovah Witnesses are among the strangest subcultures because their beliefs separate these subcultures from any other Christian denomination.
There is something about the ideology of a subculture that sparks an interest in me. Maybe it is intriguing due to its members’ originality, courage to stand up for beliefs, or freely expressing their own self- identity. A subculture forms by individuals taking a risk, separating themselves from the mainstream, and forming their own distinctive norms, not caring what the “normal” members of the mainstream society think of them. Or do they care? Maybe that is the exact statement a subculture is making. Maybe these individuals are forming these groups so that people will care. Maybe their rebellious attitude is a final, somewhat desperate approach to getting that response. The images being portrayed in most subcultures are
In this teaching, Jesus was saying that we treat one another with love and compassion as he have loved us as much as laying his life for our sake, in order for us to join him in the kingdom of God. He said that we should speak well even to those who curse and despitefully use us and abuse us because, our reward for such time is in heaven and it is God who will revenge about these things for us. He said that we should love our enemy also not only our friends because God loves us the same way and God does not discriminate from anyone, despite their falls.
When discussing subcultures it’s important to establish what a subculture is to be able to correctly identify a specific subculture and differentiate it from a main culture. An example of a main culture or parent culture could be the most prominent culture of Great Britain, which would be its development from an island to a civilized prospering democratic country. The main culture that is associated with Britain that separates it from other cultures is that it is seen as a liberal democracy. The main religion associated with British culture would be Christianity, and most people would generalise British culture to be drinking tea, eating scones and having a particular “posh” accent. These small characteristics are what cultures are made of
Henceforth it says to treat everyone with love and the way we expect others to treat us.
Jesus: “Your attitude must be like My own, for I did not come to be served, but to serve...” Matthew 20:28
The term “subculture” refers to a group of people who have similarities between them, and these similarities distinguish them significantly from other social groups. The similarities do not mean religious or political affiliation. These groups have different beliefs than the main culture and are youth oriented. These subcultures have their own styles of music, ideology,
