The Controversy: The Rise Of Islam

The world you once knew is falling to ashes and food is become such a scarcity that people are fighting over a few pieces of bread. The political class is too busy fighting among themselves to care for anyone else. Children are roaming the streets and begging for work to feed their dying, hungry stomachs. This is not a scene from a horror movie, but rather the reality of the beginning of post classical era. In these times of hardship the people turned to a higher power, which resulted in a religious boom. The main religion during the post classical era that had the greatest impact on people was Islam due to Muhammad, trade routes, the Black Plague, conquests and Islamic culture.

Religion and Bangladesh have always closely connected with each other. Religion has become one of the key identities of this country. People of different religion live here together without any disputes. However importance of religion in this country is more to say. Though it follows a secular constitution, religion is given more priority than anything else.

Language: The official language of Bangladesh is Bengali, which is also the most common language spoken in the country by approximately 98% of the people. Besides Bengali, there are 38 other languages that are spoken in Bangladesh………………………Bangladesh’s population is 89.1% Muslim, 10% Hindu, 0.5% Buddhist, and 0.4% Christian, Sikhs, animists and atheists. The precise percentage of Christians, Sikhs, animists, and atheists is not clear.

The history of the Islamic world has been one of weak state institutions and state underperformance, coupled with a high prevalence of violence, both by the state and by individuals. A major reason for these negative trends has been the role of political Islam in privileging homogeneity over diversity, in stifling dissent in public and private life, and the societal stagnation that follows such rigid controls. Malaysia and Indonesia have been notable exceptions to the underperformance of Islamic cultures.

On January 20th, 2016, Islamic State terrorists destroyed Iraq’s oldest Christian monastery, St. Elijah’s Monastery of Mosul, which had stood in Mosul for 1,400 years. According to ABC news, one of the gunmen in a dual terror attack in Paris, January 2015, claimed he was part of ISIS. American journalists, James Foley and Steven Sotloff, were killed on camera by the terror group, ISIS, which included a militant telling President Obama that Sotloff’s life was in the President’s hands. The last known American hostage, Kayla Mueller, died in the hands of the terror group, the White House said, in February 2015 (Ferran & Momtaz, 2015). These crimes are only a few of the several committed by ISIS.

The Islam religion was founded in 610 CE by the prophet Muhammad, who was verbally presented the Quran, the central religious text of Islam, by God through the archangel, Gabriel. Muslim people consider the Quran as the principle source of faith and practice. After the death of Muhammad in 632 CE, Islam spread rapidly outwards from Mecca towards the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. As the Islamic Empire grew, women became more restricted and their inferiority to men became more prominent. The empire continued to grow and reached its Golden Age beginning in 800 CE, where the importance of education and knowledge caused new advancements in technology and ideology throughout time until 1300. Four bombs and four shootings. This resulted in over 130 people dead. The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) claimed responsibility for the attacks after the bombings and shootings. There were seven known terrorists and two were named. Their names were Bilal Hafdi and Ismael Omar Mostefai. These attacks triggered rallies in New York, Washington D.C., London, Berlin, Madrid, Geneva, Rio de Janeiro, Montreal, and many other cities.

Islam, created by Muhammad, played a crucial role in uniting the Arabs together and abled the Muslims to the establish the Islam Empire. Many aspects of the religion helped the Islam to flourish during its age and the Muslims expanded their territory to vast amount of land in various regions.

This is shown through Atta Turk completely removing Islam out of the newly formed Turkish society, the Baath Party’s secular ideology while still committing massacre, and Hezbollah using a radicalized form of religion to gain political strength.
