When you think of fear, what do you think of? Have you ever been absolutely terrified by something that you become petrified. Your brain is programed to protect you from all threats to your body this protection is known as fear. When we touched a hot pan along with burning ourselves now we will not do that repeatedly for fear of being burned. Mr. King states, three claims that we go to horror movies to have fun  also we go to feel normal then at last, we go to face our fears but is that genuinely true?

These lyrics indicate that people have a dark side to their personality, it sends a message out saying that, according to Stephen King, people are “ all mentally ill”, ( King, “Why We Crave Horror” 1). Although, King’s claims can be proved, there are claims that not all people enjoy horror. Why is horror a necessity to human life? Why, when something horrible has taken place people want to know all the gruesome details? Why is it that we all love packing into a movie theater to watch innocent people be lynched and destroyed? In his essay “Why We Crave Horror” Stephen King rightfully claims he has the answers to these troubling questions. He brilliantly states that humans crave horror to face our fears, to regain a sense of normality, and have a little fun.

The first time I watched a horror movie, I was nine years old. While all of my cousins shrieked and closed their eyes, I felt totally engaged. Will we become more violent if we watch these movies? Will we become a gore-loving, emotionally insensitive society? What is it about scary movies that we love so much? It all comes back to the Human Condition. Facing our fears, establishing our sense of normalcy, and experiencing a weird sort of fun are all solid claims that Stephen King states in his essay “Why We Crave Horror Movies.”

Illness and health are two very different concepts. Health is something that is living well, while illness is something not living well. Mentally ill is how Stephen King describes us all for liking horror movies, in his essay “Why We Crave Horror.” According to King, we all have anticivilization emotions that need to be released and are released through horror movies. While many believe the horror movie genre is too macabre and dark, King’s ideas are accurate because we would have to be mentally ill to enjoy others being harmed.

Within these two texts, the topic discussed is ‘how do these separate types of text forms explore horror and suspense within their plot?’ Because one is a 92 minute film and the other a book over 1000 pages, they would have their own ways of adding suspense to the plot and keeping the audience entertained at the same time. Movies contain lighting, music and camera shots to show the grittiness to the scene. A book would have other forms of horror and suspense, and would house paragraphs describing the scene in unnecessary detail, painting a clean image of the scene within the reader’s mind.

In the essay, "Why We Crave Horror Movies," best-selling writer of horror fiction, Stephen King talks about the "dirty job" horror movies perform for us and why horror movies are beneficial to audience. The reason for "why we crave horror movies" is that some people like to see others frightening in danger, to prove they are brave, and to reassure they are normal. I agree to King's claim that horror movies perform the "dirty job" to establish antisocial feelings for some people but not all.

First, horror movies can provide people fun and excitement. Second, people watch horror movies to overcome their fear and show that they aren’t afraid of scary movies. Third, people can release their negative emotions and insanities by watching horror movies.

Horror Movies: An Outlet for Insanity We are all insane. Thus, man is evil. Stephen King declares this belief in his essay “Why We Crave Horror Movies”, adding his opinion to the extensive debate on the nature of humankind. Those who believe man is evil are also unable to deny their own corruption.
