In 1776, the Continental congress elected that Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman, and Robert R. Livingston help write what many now know today to be The Declaration of Independence. The whole point of this document being written was to declare to Great Britain and King George III that the British colonies in North America would no longer be a part of Great Britain, but rather of their own free states, thus creating the United States of America and declaring independence from Great Britain. On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress got together to form a document known as the Declaration of Independence. Written by American colonists, it did not want to be under British rule no more. The document also stated the rights of humans, but some of the main ones were the equality of men and also, the unalienable rights that the people of the United States were given as citizens. The Declaration of Independence has the main rights that modern citizens need now-a-day, but some can argue that the Preamble to the United States Constitution was made in order to form a more perfect union, making it the more compelling document. The Declaration of Independence, in comparison to the Preamble, is the most compelling document in today's day and age.

Democracy is known as a system of government when all eligible people of a state can voice their own opinions as well as elect representatives. Democracy is not once mentioned in The Declaration of Independence. Pros of a democracy are, its by the people and for the people. Democracy is meant for everybody to be eligible to vote and they are able to vote. The people are also able to participate in what they think, feel , and voice about the political, social, and economic issues that are presented to them. It's in the people's best interest not just the governments. The goal is to find solutions with decision-makers best interest. The main goal is to is find solutions that are best for the people and regulate conflicts between states and government.  A democracy imposes equality, the people's votes carry the same weight, which makes all individuals to be heard and make them feel as if their opinion is important. The US Constitution, The Declaration of Independence as well as the Letter to the Danbury Baptist are not just historical documents, but some of if not the most important documents of the history of our nation. Although, similar in many facets the intentions and the goal pursued by each highlight their individuality. The fact that the Declaration of Independence was the first to be implemented and signed is of significant importance as it set the pace and put in motion the proceeding documents that followed. Ultimately, my goal is to not only show their comparisons or where they may contrast, but to highlight what makes these documents profound and therefore still relative and valid even today.

Americans think freedom means liberty, which is by the freedom of speech. I believe that the first sentence of paragraph three of the Declaration of Independence is compelling for Americans today because, it makes an argument between life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. The Declaration of Independence shows argument between the life of happiness and the pursuit of happiness for liberty.

Although it has been believed it was just Thomas Jefferson who was the only author, there were 4 other co-writers, John Adams, Robert Livingston, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman. They wrote it because they were fed up with the tyranny of Britain. These men used the Declaration of Independence to claim their place as a separate nation from Britain. It was not until October the King officially declared the colonies in a state of rebellion. The grand result of the rebellion was the birth of our country the United States of America.

I will examine the main writer of the Declaration of Independence Thomas Jefferson and look at the sources he used to begin our country. If Thomas Jefferson was a student at the United States Sergeant Major Academy, and he submitted his Declaration of Independence to turn it in would he pass? Were our founding fathers even great thinkers or were they just taking the advice of someone else and putting it to use? The ideas and political thought that inspired the historic Declaration of Independence did not extemporaneously pop into Thomas Jefferson’s head, but rather were a product of English literature.

The Declaration of Independence brought America its independence, and it self, as well as our constitution. The declaration of independence had many positive effects on America. The Declaration of Independence is the usual name of a statement adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. This stated that the thirteen American colonies, called themselves the thirteen newly independent sovereign states, and that they were no longer a part of the British Empire. Instead of staying in the British Empire, they formed a new nation; the United States of America. Many people wanted independence, but John Adams really believe in and pushed for independence. America’s independence was approved on July 2, 1776. A committee of five had already wrote a draft of the declaration, so it was ready when Congress voted on independence. The term "Declaration of Independence" is not used in the document itself, but is explained and perceived.

The Declaration of Independence and the Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions, both extraordinary documents, full of emotion and passion. Both documents written to express emotion, and grievances. Author Thomas Jefferson and Elizabeth Cady Stanton do a phenomenal job at depicting the hardships that both describe their group of people going through. Both documents have very similar objectives and logic.

The Declaration of Independence was written to explain, why colonies chose to separate from Great Britain. In the Declaration of Independence, Jefferson explains that if the government becomes unfair and controlling, a body of people have the right to change governments. Jefferson organized his argument in a format of writing an essay. He organized his document with an introduction, body, and conclusion.

While reading the Declaration of Independence, there are clear signs of other work being weaved into the official paper as “harmonizing sentiments of the day” (Jefferson). This included works from political idealist such as George Mason’s Virginia Declaration of Rights and John Locke's Second Treatise of Government.
