On April 1, 1976, one of the greatest American companies was created: Apple Incorporated. From that point on, tablets were never the same. Apple has paved the way for tablet devices in the field of technology. Apple is mostly known for their Macintosh computers, which were first unveiled on January 4, 1984, but on April 3, 2010 Apple outdid themselves once again with the the invention of the iPad. The iPad is an all-in-one tablet-like device. With the iPad learning is able to “go way beyond the classroom” (www.apple.com). With the invention of the iPad, it has changed the way people learn, especially in the field of education. The iPad has become a revolutionary tool in the field of education. iPads make up 94 percent of the tablet market for the education sector (Schaffhauser 1). The iPad has numerous uses from storing multiple textbooks to being able to use a cloud based word processing application. The iPad is capable providing “over 65,000 apps just for education, interactive books on every subject, and speeches, virtual tours, and videos from experts and institutions around the world” (www.apple.com). The possibilities of the iPad are endless: Students don’t just watch, listen, or read with iPad — they create with it. iPad comes with powerful apps that turn every assignment into something big. A multimedia presentation. A photo documentary. A riveting research project. Suddenly, the work they need to do becomes work they want to do — on a device
iPads and tablets have become a popular choice of teachers in many classrooms worldwide due to the positive impact it has on the students. Tablets offer a wide variety of educational applications that have the ability to be downloaded onto the tablet for the students to use. Many schools have switched from using paper textbooks to iPads or chromebooks, which allow students to access online textbooks. But is this a good change? There are many factors that need to be put into consideration, including the age group of a kids receiving the technology, the classes this tool can be used for, and the children’s ability to interact with others.
Samantha Light, grade 1 teacher at St. Juans catholic elementary in Toronto, Ontario noticed that her students learn better when they use technology, such as iPads. Light wants to make learning more enjoyable not only for her students, but kids everywhere, as she thinks it will make students want to participate in their teachers lessons more.
Having an iPad required for class will benefit the student in numerous ways. iPad are fun to learn from, will help future back problems, and will cost less overall. It solves numerous problems and is a fun way to learn from. It is a smart choice and is a rewarding program for the students and
This article relies on several previous research studies of the use of iPads in the special education classroom as a means to determine best practices for teachers in implementing the devices in their classrooms. The literature reviewed includes studies on students learning English as a second language and studies showing students with other language barriers using the devices to improve their skills. The literature review also included several studies on students with autism and other intellectual disabilities using the iPad and subsequently improving their communication, social and math skills. The studies also found that students using the iPads showed greater academic engagement, independence and self-determination. Also reviewed was the
Because of this the opportunities to integrate technology become nearly limitless. First, I want to eliminate the textbook from daily use. All of the readings need to come from online text or a PDF copy students can upload to their iPad. This allows students to annotate the story or article without using a bunch of Post-it Notes or the teacher running off over 100 copies of the text. Also using Apple technology allows students to look up an unfamiliar word by simply highlight and clicking it instead of skipping or stopping reading so the teacher can define the word in question. Also for students who struggle reading complex texts Apple provides and option to highlight the text and the device reads it to them while the student follows along. Next, I want to make sure all student type and take notes using their technology. Year after year it shocks me to see how many students do not understand the most basic etiquette of typing. This becomes more pressing because during their sophomore year, students take the End of Course exam in English Language Arts. Part of this assessment includes their ability to type an essay. Due to this reason it becomes essential students understands proper typing etiquette. Finally, I want my students to learn how to effectively collaborate within a team. Every time I ask someone outside education, “What is the number one skill employers want us to teach?” They
With the day-to-day use of iPads within the classroom, it is crucial that teachers find the right balance between protecting our children and giving them the apparatuses they need to make the most of today’s technology for supporting educational initiatives. There are many ethical concerns that arise with the common use of technology today: unstructured and unmonitored iPad time can lead to psychological and
The author provided a literature review of the popularity of use of the iPad in the classroom, among students with or without disabilities. The review found that students with disabilities had greater engagement and behavioral response rates when using iPads and teaching applications on the iPads as opposed to more traditional methods of teaching. Through this background knowledge, the author sets up her research proposal.
Today, technology is advancing faster than ever. It’s incredible how humans have turned it into something more. Innovative ideas such as virtual reality, touchscreen devices, and audio helper (Alexa siri, google.) Furthermore, technology has evolved greatly for the education of students. Although technology has enhanced education, some students can’t fully utilize it if the circumstances at home prevents them from doing so. For example, Anson High School provides laptops that students can take home. With this, we can use it to our advantage to complete assignments online.
During the “imagine” portion of the lesson, the student will have access to an iPad to assist him or her in verbal communication during small group discussion.
Tablets are becoming a big hit in the industry nowadays. A tablet pc is a device that is like a hand held computer. Tablets have a touch screen function or a pen-enabled interface. Tablet application also entertains the users like playing games, photography, video taking, music and many more. Because the tablet has many functions, it would be a great help in school and at work. This device will act as a substitute to the required needs of a student in school. Tables application that are related to the school subject that is being teach, ebooks or electronic books can replace the heavy books and make distribution of assignments and handouts more faster. As I read in Weber’s book “In Cheap We Trust”, in her eighth
From day 1, the iPad was viewed as more than just a consumer device. With apps like Apple 's Keynote to give presentations, the device was quickly embraced by professionals to show a slide deck to a colleague. Whether in a conference room or at a restaurant table, the iPad is simply more convenient than a laptop ever was, and as a result it was quickly grabbed by professionals to use for business purposes. After that, it didn 't take long for companies to see the potential for the iPad (Clevenger, Nathan. ( © 2011))
Stephanie Hedge emphasizes that “. Tablets can use polling and clicker technology, whiteboard projection, and more. A single tablet has the potential to replace a suite of technologies, and is perfect for classrooms without much technology support” (parag.5).According to this evidence, tablets can have multiple purposes. Tablets can be used as a device for video and audio interaction. This eliminates or removes a lifeless environment that is now current in the classroom. .According to the University Of Washington” Course management tools such as Canvas allow instructors to organize all the resources students need for a class (e.g. syllabi, assignments, readings, online quizzes), provide valuable grading tools, and create spaces for discussion, document sharing, and video and audio commentary. All courses are automatically given a Canvas site” (parag.7).This rebuttable university believes that tablets are a great way to stay organized. This allows teacher to better manage their grading system, therefore allowing them to be more aware of whether the student passing or failing. To sum up, teachers who used technology as a way to teach students end up establishing a better learning environment.
Tablet purchases are similar to the purchase of digital textbooks by students. With the recent expansion and convenience of the Kindle, Nook, iPad, PocketReader, and similar E-book readers, more students have begun purchasing their textbooks via online versions and using them in their classes. The purchase of online textbooks, like other online purchases, can benefit from the tablets experience. Tablets provide the convenience of smart access, powerful screens,
