The Importance Of A Career As A Nurse

The nursing field has a wide variety of positions. The hard work put into this career is well worth it. I am interested in nursing as a career because nurses get the chance to make a huge difference in someone's life, there is always exciting and challenging tasks in a nurse's life, and of course nurses make excellent money. A nurse can work in many different establishments, such as hospitals, nursing homes, schools, etc. Every day nurses make a huge difference in someone's life. Most patients appreciate nurses more than anyone else. As a nurse, you get the opportunity to interact with so many different people.

As a course of life, people are born, raised, and go to school until the time comes where they need to make a decision about their career. In fact, most careers have one common theme among them---Help or give back to community and society. I for one have chosen a career in nursing to help people and give back to my community. Other than the fact that I want to help people, a career in nursing will expand my horizons, give me career opportunities, and job satisfaction.

I chose nursing as my profession because I always have had a desire to serve and educate others and nursing, which has given me an opportunity to do that. Nursing is a rewarding career that gives the greatest opportunity to save lives, comfort, and care for them. The nursing profession tends to run in my family and have inspired me to become a nurse as well. This profession is the most demanding and helpful profession in the world.

I choose nursing as my future career because I enjoy working with others, helping others feel better, and educating people. These three topics are all involved in what nursing is. I believe that nursing is focused on the holistic care of individuals and their families in order to achieve and maintain an optimal level of health, a great quality of life, and comfort. This is done through the promoting healthy living, providing a safe environment, preventing illness, and the caring for the individual and the family.

Everyday in the life of an RN is diverse. According to American Nurses Association, the task in one day can range from performing physical exams on a patient or making critical decisions you may be faced with (“What Nurses Do” 1). When you hear of the word ‘’career’’ it makes you think of some of your long term goals in life. A career is a pursuit, occupation, profession you choose to take in life. My career of choice would be a profession that deals with being a caregiver, it doesn’t matter the age group. I want to be a caregiver because not only are you helping someone in need out, your also putting a smile on their face. I just love being able to help others and to make a change. When I was a little girl my grandfather was diagnosed with lung cancer ,so from that day forward I was always focused on being in the medical field ,I just knew that I could be the doctor that will and would find the cure to the disease’s that are killing our people off. I came to Aiken technical college to achieve one of my goals of getting a degree in nursing. Since I was a little girl I have always dreamt of being a doctor, so I knew by me taking up nursing I would get one foot in the door of following my dreams.

To graduate with a masters in nurse practitioning at McNeese University, all students will have to at least 40-43 credit hours in the Family Nurse Practitioner specialty, at least 46-49 hours spent in the Family/Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner specialty, no less than 34-37 hours spent for the Nurse Educator role, a minimum of 35-38 hours spent in the Nurse Executive role, complete a scholarly thesis project, and lastly, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA at all times (Graduate Programs) #5. The requirements don’t sound very hard to complete, and since my GPA in high school is a 4.0 it will be easy maintaining that grade point average in college.

I knew from a young age that I was going to pursue a degree in nursing. The medical field has interested me since I was five years old. At the time my dad had decided to go back to school to pursue his nursing degree. Along with wanting to follow in my father’s footsteps, I have also always loved helping people. However, the thing that really pushed me into to nursing, was being diagnosed as a type one diabetic at age nine. For these reasons, the choice to pursue nursing was not a hard one.

I have not fully decided on a career choice, but if you ask me I would pick nursing. I would choose nursing because of the many self rewarding tasks you can achieve while being a nurse. For example helping and tending to an elderly who has no strength to complete tasks anymore because of old age. Nursing is such a great career choice, I can see myself doing well within the career and also being financially stable because of good pay. Also another detail I noticed in being a nurse is how flexible your schedule can be. I believe that this career, nursing, would be something I would enjoy and be comfortable with. I can also see it bringing me happiness in ways that I can help families who have a loved one or friends who are need of urgent care. Without nurses there would not be that certain individual to help another human being out at their toughest times.

The definition of a nurse is “a person trained to care for the sick or infirm, especially in a hospital.” I chose this career just based off of my experience with a nurse, watching her care for a family member of my own. She inspired me to become someone that loved and cared for every person I met. This career would suit me in my personality; I am a people person and always have something to talk about. I want to be able to make an impact on every patient that I come across no matter how little or small.

Although not a setback, I am venturing into a profession new to me and for my family. My father did not complete high school. He emigrated from Ethiopia to a refugee camp in Kenya and was fortunate enough for an opportunity to move to the United States. My mother underwent similar struggles on her journey to America. She was able to complete and earn an associate nursing degree and she's been a dialysis nurse ever since. The one more or less challenges on my end is that there are no doctors in my family that can relay information or reassure me with advice about their experiences. Although it would be beneficial to have someone a physician in the family for advice, and encouragement, I know my family will still be my encouragers and support

I have been putting a lot of thought into my future career and I have researched a lot of potential fields that match my skills, interests and what I have a passion for. My main priority is to work in a job where I will be caring for people and children. I feel my vocation is nursing. I have decided that nursing is the career for me because I have a keen interest in caring for people and their needs. I would like to think I could make a difference to someone's life that is suffering pain or fighting an illness with the adequate knowledge and skills in which I would learn from the course. I chose to take your class this semester because I love the theatre, it’s the one place on campus I feel at home. Also, I enjoy learning about the history of it and seeing how much the theatre has changed through history. I would love to have an A in your class, but I would settle for a B, life happens and occasionally we don’t get the things we want. To obtain the A though, I plan on working my butt off and participating in anything I can that could help me reach my goals. Although I don’t plan on pursuing acting or set crew as a career – I’m actually here at Butler for the nursing program - I would love to continue it as a hobby or secondary job.
