There is so much going on in the world around us! Things such as murder, school shootings, and budget cuts on scholarship and grant opportunities for students. With events as such, funding to help better and prevent these things are necessary. The proposal for cutting the budget of the National Park Service is a step toward bettering these events. Investing in the National Park Service is a waste of federal funding.
There are far more important things the federal government can do with the funds cut from the NPS. More federal funding can go towards education. As of now, there is a debate for increasing the caliber for students to receive TOPs (a scholarship that goes toward college expenses). About a year ago the budget was cut and now there
The most important spending change to be made in the cluster is the National Park Service. It takes up less than .1% of the Little Guys. More money should be put into the National Park Service because we need to preserve our parks. National parks are homes to many animals and provide nice areas for people to go and relax. As stated in Document E, national park service “includes administration and maintenance of 58 national parks, 123 historic sites, and 74 national monuments.” Whether it be park, historic site, or national monument, it needs to be protected. Industrial services want to get rid of parks so they can build buildings. By getting rid of them, they are hurting the environment and the ecosystem. Trees provide the oxygen we breathe and by cutting them down, we are in a sense, killing ourselves. Building more buildings would just cause more pollution and further hurt the environment. The Preamble goal that the National Park service addresses is general welfare. Another goal is securing the blessings of liberty. Document A states that “one of the reasons for fighting the American revolution was to protect the “inalienable rights” of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” That means that we have a right to take care and preserve our parks and we should not be persuaded to get rid of
It is extremely fascinating that “general science and space (NASA) accounts for thirty-one billion dollars as opposed to national park service which only gets three billion dollars” (Document E). Thusly, funds from general science and space should be designated to national park service because national parks provide for the domestic tranquility with their relaxing and tranquil sites and serene environment. To continue, there are “fifty-eight national parks, 123 historic sites, and seventy-four national monuments” that have to be maintained and renovated so how can three million dollars be enough for all of these pieces and memorials of history (Document E)? General science and space would survive a cut in funds considering that America is no longer in the space race with Russia and it is not all that often that NASA sends new satellites into orbit or rovers to different planets. General science and space is not as useful as it used to be due to a growing number of private companies that are starting to take over the science and space industry. For these reasons, national park service needs to make up more than “just greater than .1 percent” of the budget (Document E). In conclusion, there are changes that need to be made to all three major clusters of the federal
Much is always happening in the world. Wars are fought; peace is achieved. Nations change governments. Inventions improve life. Economies flourish or decline. Crimes are committed and solved. Candidates win or lose. Natural disasters occur.
This budget contains grants, reimbursements from schools, and payments that is from schools. $72.9 billion was set aside for public and higher education institutions. Most of the money is difficult to get if it is for a project that it was not intended for. Since the legislature cannot take money out of these two accounts when they would like, they just cut the budget. This is to give them more wiggle room in other areas that they would like to see the budget go to. There is a cycle that can be seen throughout the government. If the state wants money they need to spend what they have in order to receive federal
The National Park Service (NPS) plays a gargantuan role in the preservation of many national parks, monuments, and historical sites. But most recently the government proposed significant budget cuts to the NPS, which will reduce financial support for preserving national parks, monuments, historical sites, and the programs that teach kids about nature and history. Keeping these national parks and monuments busy and wellfunded is imperative because without those Americans will be losing an important historical insight of the initiation that the country was built on. Although, some may debate that the government should not fund the NPS because it takes control away from the locals, it is important that NPS is funded because it will ensure the
All around the world we have National Parks that are protected areas by the government. John Muir was enraptured by it and Ansell Adame immortalized it, while Teddy Roosevelt created the National Park Service to protect these National Parks. These nationals parks are very important to keep for the environment, we all need to work together to keep these parks as nature as possible.
The United Stated government only spends about 5,2% of their GDP(global domestic product) for educational purposes, and in money, that is equivalent to $898.5 million out of the $17.97 trillion that they make. (CIA Factbook) Because of this shortage of funding, many schools, especially public schools in Chicago, are forced to work with less money, and don’t allow them to be able to create extracurricular programs for the students, make renovations in the school, or do other things of that nature. The total CPS budget is $5.69 billion, but they are facing a shortfall of one billion dollars.(Bradley) That is about 18% of CPS’ total budget that is being taken away from them. This shows how big a problem these cuts actually are and how much it affects the schools and the community. One of the areas of the country’s budget that could be spent less on is military. The United States’ total discretionary spending, which is the government spending implemented through an appropriations bill and are usually necessities, is around $1.11 trillion in 2015. The military expenditure 53.71% of the total discretionary spending, which is $598.49 billion, while the government only spends 6.28% on education, which is $69.98 billion.(nationalpriorities.org) That is a $528.51 billion difference! Does the United States actually have to spend that much on their military? The United States is the country that spends the most on its military, at about $1.56 trillion
National parks are part of the foundation and history of the beginning of America. The NPS is an organization that fights for the national parks and is trying to preserve them. Although the national parks may seem like land with no meaning taking up space that could be used for more construction and modernization, they deserve to be a priority because of the history they hold from the beginning of our great nation and because of the recreational value they provide to the public.
The question is how and where do you apply for funding and cut cost to certain areas. The impact of federal health care shows the federal budget cannot be overstated. The federal budget is shrinking and the governments flexibility is to pay for other obligations such as homeland security, environmental cleanup, and disaster. In addition, the Department of Defense and the Veterans Affairs is increasing.
In 2016, the National Park Service (NPS) celebrated 100 years of preservation and conservation of our nation’s parks, monuments, and historical sites. Currently, the federal government has proposed significant proposed budget cuts to the National Park Service. If the government makes these cuts, then Americans could lose the national parks along with the beauty, culture, and history that comes with them. This would happen because the NPS would lose most of its funding that is needed in order to keep the national parks wellpreserved. Investing in the NPS should be a priority in our nation because it provides educational programs, unites all ages and races, and preserves and conserves the national parks.
the role the national park will play into the future to provide benefit and relevant services to Canadians and a commitment to work with communities, organizations and individuals for a sustainable future and to sustain or improve the ecological integrity of the park.
I believe our budget must be reviewed. Massive amounts of non-discretionary funding fails to allocate funds in the most efficient way possible. As members of a state government, delegates must seek to construct a balanced, yet effective budget that assists all its citizens equally. However, I believe cutting
So, where is the disconnect? Further into her article, Bilmes mentions, “But NPS gets its funding from a combination of visitor fees and an annual congressional appropriation, which total some $3 billion” (Bilmes). That leaves $89 billion that the parks are not receiving. Therefor, the NPS does not have the adequate funds required to undertake upkeep and repair projects that it must in order to revitalize interest in the national
I overcome failure at my job in the Youth Conservation Corps of the National Park Service at Monocacy National Battlefield. This position often requires initiative, quick decision making and physical strength. The National Park Service, especially park maintenance, is a field with jobs primarily occupied by men. This tells me that somewhere along the way, someone of my gender was told, or told themselves that they could not complete the work that I do as efficiently as a man could. When they simply continue to adopt the mindset that they are not strong or competent enough to perform manual labor and neglect to even try the job, they have already failed due to their lack of attempt. I go to work and work manually in order to set a new standard
The Issue of National Park conservation has become a widely controversial issue today. With the National debt reaching 17 trillion dollars some politicians think it is alright to either sell off national park land to commercial foresters, miners, and even foreign nations or to just close some parks entirely to make up some of the national debt. They are completely unaware that the parks arent just a “pretty area of land for tourists”. Many cities depend on the parks for their well-being. A quote from a local newspaper in California supports this “National parks don’t boast concession stands or charge tax, but data indicates they bring in millions of dollars to local economies each year”(Tree). Supporters of cutting the parks include big CEO’s of major companies and some of them not even in this country.
