Nonetheless, I always try to eat healthy, balancing my meals with fruits, vegetables, and other nutrients. I know that diet alone is not sufficient to promote health. Therefore, I need to set goals for an exercise regime. More importantly, my goals must meet the SMARTS criteria to be achievable (page #66).
Cancer is another chronic disease I really care about. My mom has been recently diagnosed with a lung cancer. Additionally, she also has high blood pressure. My family and I have encouraged her to take as much nutrients as possible and do some exercise every day. Personally, I think another factor which is crucial for cancer patients is

Since human existence, physical exercise was a part of human nature even though it was essential for survival. Now, during the twenty-first century, physical exercise has become crucial not only for survival, but perhaps, existence and longevity. Though a lot of us do not think much about it, nutrition is huge part of our lives. As stated in the book, “nutrition is the study of food and nutrients we need to sustain life and reproduce” (pg. 8 Blake, Munoz & Volpe). Despite the importance of nutrition in our daily lives, many are oblivious to the nutritional value of the foods they consume. What drives us to food is “taste and enjoyment, social life and trends, nutrition knowledge, advertising, time, convenience, and cost, habits and emotions” (pg. 4 Blake, Munoz & Volpe). Out of these categories, the ones that stand out the most to me are culture, trends, and advertising due to the impact these have on one of the leading health issues in the United States; obesity.
Media always talks about ways to be in shape, but they don’t talk about all the ways to stay fit. There are other strategies on staying fit. There are many surveys on the internet that show and explain different beneficial strategies on staying healthy in the future. But why wait for the future. Prevention of obesity has been advocated by many physicians. They are different ways in which obesity can be prevented. For example doing exercise, monitoring of the lifestyle, or medical supplements ("Heart Disease and Stroke | Healthy People 2020", 2017). The increasing prevalence of obesity and its concomitant risks justify effort towards prevention (Setiadi & Witjaksono, 2013). According to Goran, diet and physical activity has been emphasized as appropriate interventions and best ways of preventing obesity. From the Healthy People 2020 Website, the level of physical activity is highly variable, hence influenced by a multitude of factors such as psychological, environmental, physiological and sociocultural determinants ("Physical Activity | CDC", 2017). Although the relationship between physical activity and prevention of obesity is not clear, physical activity is hypothesized to protect an individual against developing obesity (Chin, Kahathuduwa & Binks, 2016). This is because it increases energy expenditure mechanism and resting metabolic rate and leading to a favourable fuel utilization (Setiadi & Witjaksono, 2013).
Let’s start by taking a look at the human anatomy. Our body is system of different networks that all connect to each other in some way or another. As (Nutritional psychiatry: Your brain on food, 2015) explains serotonin, the neurotransmitter that aids sleep, appetite, mediate moods, and inhibit pain. The majority of serotonin is produced in the gastronintestinal tract. The gastrointestinal tract is packed with hundred million nerve cells that helps the digestive system and effects emotions, moods, and energy levels. Another influence is “good” bacteria, it also effects how well you absorb nutrients by limiting inflammation, and protecting against toxins and “bad” bacteria.
