Now and days people are starting to consider paying college athletes but that may not be the best idea. College athletes should not be paid because universities are already paying for education and scholarships which should already be enough, also there is no fair way to pay athletes, and playing in a colligate sport should be a privilege.
Scholarly athletes almost always get their full tuition paid for, or at least significantly discounted. Student loans, textbooks, on-campus living, and meal plans are paid for all athletes at college. Billions are given to athletes each year, and in some cases, the athletic scholarship at a school exceeds the school’s tuition. Not every college could afford the players they want to recruit. The uncertainty in the importance of each sport may come into to play when paying college athletes. Some players may make it to the national championship where millions of people watch them and others may not have even been televised and not won a game but they both get paid the same amount. If colleges were to pay their athletes, there would be no fair way to do it. However, people who say college athletes should be paid, they are not totally wrong. Athletes are putting their body on the line each game and they do bring in a lot of money from big time TV channels. At the same time, would schools will pay an individual player based on their talents? Some schools may not even have enough money to pay a certain player so they may lose their number one recruit. Also, if they start to pat their athletes, it may detract from the purity of the game. If the paying players start to come into play, these college sports may begin to go downhill.
College athletes should be thankful for the opportunity they have to play in college. Most childhood dreams are unconcerned with the money that could come along with a career in sports. Student- athletes already have it easier financially wise then most people at their school. For every high school athlete that dreams of playing in college, only about 7 percent go on to do it. Only 2 percent of the people play in a Division I school. Millions of people dream of playing on a college team but many times they can never achieve
