ISSUES IN TRUCKING INDUSTRY

1. TRUCKING INDUSTRY The trucking industry serves the American Society by transporting 80% of all freight, annually accounting for $671 billion worth of manufactured and retail goods within U.S. alone. Add $295 billion truck trade in Canada and $195.6 billion truck trade with Mexico. About 4.8% of the Gross domestic product
Trucks are also used in the construction industry, as dump trucks and portable concrete mixers move the large amounts of rocks, dirt, concrete, and other building materials used in construction.
8.6 million people were employed in truck related jobs by 2003. The excessive use of trucking industry for the freight movement due to reasons,
1. Movement of goods is faster by trucks than in rail.
2. Truck transportation is less expensive as compared by air transportation.
The trucking industry is growing faster than the economy for the following reasons;
• Increase in On-line shopping has made it necessary for the goods to reach on time for customer satisfaction.
• Other modes of transportation are facing restraint.
• Growth in International trade.
• Trucking is well suited to present day business practices as it offers in time delivery of manufactured as well as retail goods.
• Economies of scale suggest, there is going to be more shipments in near future. Commercial Vehicles (Large Trucks and Buses) require a Commercial driver’s license (CDL). Drivers of commercial vehicles must adhere to hours of services. All such rules
