Research Paper (The Lamb and The Tyger; Creativity)
When reading the poem, The Lamb and The Tyger written by William Blake, it was extremely confusing as the reader has no idea what Blake is talking about without doing further research. As the reader begins to research more about the author and the poem itself, the reader will come to find out that the poem was a part of one of William Blake’s larger works entitled Songs of Innocence. It will begin to become clear to the reader very soon after reading the poem, why a poem like the Lamb would be in such a work. The poem the Lamb is all about God. It poses the difficult yet simple

On January 20th, 1892 in Springfield, Massachusetts the game of basketball was born. Dr. James Naismith would be credited for creating the game of basketball during the winter months at a local YMCA. The game consisted of thirteen rules, nine of which are still in existence today. The final score of the first game was 1-0 with William Chase being credited with the first ever basket. There is no way anybody could tell that when Dr. Naismith created the game of basketball he thought it would turn into the game it is today.
The game of basketball is pure representation of the lamb as the game was created from one man to give another man or woman something to do in his or her free time. The game was not created out of greed or jealousy it was purely for fun and something to do. The game of basketball is also the definition of creativity as the game continues to get more creative each and every day with players now going from just passing the ball to dribbling, shooting three point shots, and even dunks. When the game of basketball was in its earliest stages, there wasn’t even a such thing as a basketball. It doesn’t get much more creative than that. The first ever basketball was a soccer ball because Dr. Naismith did not even have enough money to create a new ball. It wouldn’t be until two whole years later that the basketball was created.
In the first ever basketball game eighteen players
Basketball is one of the most popular which is beloved sports that is played today. Michael Jordan, who played for the Washington Wizards and the Chicago Bulls once said, “Just play, have fun, and enjoy the game” (BrainyQuote 2016). Whether playing with friends for fun or by professionals for entertainment or simply watching from home, basketball is very enjoyed all over the world. Beginning with a unique history, basketball has evolved over time from a simple idea into a professional career choice for those with the unique skill set.
In the poems "The Lamb" and "The Tyger," William Blake uses symbolism, tone, and rhyme to advance the theme that God can create good and bad creatures. The poem "The Lamb" was in Blake's "Songs of Innocence," which was published in 1789. "The Tyger," in his "Songs of Experience," was published in 1794. In these contrasting poems he shows symbols of what he calls "the two contrary states of the human soul" (Shilstone 1).
Thesis: Basketball was invented by James Naismith in 1839. The objective was to throw the basketball into fruit baskets strapped to the railing of the gym balcony. As you can see the game of basketball has changed tons over the years and continues to grow.
December 21, 1891- The birth of basketball. It has been changed from simply shooting a soccer ball into a peach basket to dunking a seven pound, leather ball into an iron rim. In the early years of the game, basketball was not as popular as other sports. In the 1985 NBA draft all this would change with the emergence of a 6'6" basketball phenomenon from Wilmington, North Carolina. Although going third in the draft, he recreated the game and is known as the best player to ever touch a basketball; he is Michael Jordan.
William Blake’s poem “The Lamb” is a simplistic poem until you read deeper into it and find a powerful and uplifting religious message about creation. Blake is able to draw people into his poem by having a young innocent child as the speaker, asking rhetorical questions to a lamb. Although he also throws irony into the second stanza by having the young child answer his own questions, asked in the first stanza. The poem has a tone so sweet and soft that it is not offensive in any means and is not affected by cynicism of the older generations. Blake’s poem is one of the most famous poems in English literature because of the spiritual message left between the lines.
Thesis Statement: The Lamb written by William Blake is a beautiful spiritually enriched poem that expresses God’s sovereignity, His love for creation and His gentleness in care and provisions for those that are His .
“The Lamb” in Songs of Innocence, and “The Tyger” in Songs of Experience were written with biblical influence, and Blake demonstrates his biblical upbringing through out these poems. “The Lamb” is represented through a pastoral story line, allowing a connection with agriculture and nature, much like many stories in the Bible. “The Tyger’s” storyline, however introduces the question of theodicy, or why there is evil in the world. How can God make a lamb so innocent and pure, and in turn create something so evil and cruel? Throughout “The Tyger”, Blake asks hypothetical questions,
If you were to ask the average person what basketball is that is the answer you 'll probably get, but it is much more than that. Bas·ket·ball- a game that has evolved drastically invented by James Naismith played by millions of people around the world. Ah! That 's like it. Basketball has changed a lot over the past years and still continues to grow, but many wonder “How did this all start?”
Dr. James Naismith invented the game of basketball in 1891. He was the physical education teacher at Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts then. He probably never guess the sport would become so popular. He wanted a new game. He wanted a game to play indoors. New England winters were very cold. He created the game of basketball. It only took 14 days. The original basketball teams started in 1891. They had nine players instead of five. Iron hoops with nets were introduced in 1893. The first baskets were made from peach baskets. A player had to climb up and retrieve the ball after each score. Thousands of teams across the world now play Dr. Naismith’s game.
character who is very loving and giving to the Lamb. The lamb represents the children of God and how all of God’s children will get a life, clothing, food, and all the necessities, which Blake talks about in the first verse. Where in the poem regarding the tyger, it’s not so much God being shown as it is Satan. Satan is represented through the tyger in the poem. He is dark, cruel, hot, and deadly. But at the end of the poem, Blake asks did the creator of the lamb also make the tyger? This is the line that really pulled the connection of the two together. In my religion we are taught that God made Heaven and Hell and if that is what Blake is talking about in this poem then he is suggesting that basically the lamb is the people who follow and represent God, such as Jesus. Whereas
“The Lamb” is one of William Blake’s famous poems from his book Songs of Innocence published in 1789. “The Lamb” is also known as “Little Lamb” but better known by the former name. This poem is a didactic poem reflecting spirituality from a Christian point of view. “The Lamb” is a question and an answer type of poem and has a sense of innocence as the speaker is a child questioning a lamb’s existence. In “The Lamb” William Blake uses metaphor, symbolism and imagery to express Jesus Christ and His relationship with the world.
Furthermore, an outstanding technique employed by Blake is present in both “The Lamb” and “The Tyger” establishing a curious tone: the posing of questions. Initially, “The Lamb”, published in Songs of Innocence, composes of two stanzas sung by a young child; the first stanza consists of questions and the second stanza aims to answer those very questions. Moreover the first stanza begins with a meek and naïve question, “Little Lamb who made thee,” (line 1). The simplicity of the question further suggests the innocence of the child, however, the register of the biblical language (thee) is a clear example of a reference to the Bible. In addition, this reference is questioning the nature and the origins of the ‘Little Lamb’ and is later answered, introducing a new character, “For he calls himself a Lamb…” (line 13). Here Blake mentions Jesus Christ, and is presented as the Shepherd of the lambs, who symbolize human
By comparing and contrasting the symbols of the Tyger and the lamb coupled with a rhetorical question, Blake is able to illustrate that both good and are shaped into the world by God. Blake’s Tyger is presented with a beauty that is fascinating “burning bright” in spite of, its destructiveness. It’s not debatable whether the Tyger represents good or evil, but one thing is certain that it’s the sense of impenetrable mystery, its resistance to any categorization or any explainable human terms that makes the figure of the Tyger supremely amazing. The Tyger, it symbolizes the dreadful forces in the world just as the lamb symbolizes Innocence and good in the world. As the tradition holds, animals such as lambs were sacrificed to God. Blake draws on traditional biblical symbolism to present the Lamb as pure, innocent, and childlike. Blake then utilises Christian imagery to question whether a beneficent God would create the lamb and the Tyger,
Many of William Blake’s poems include themes of religion, “The Lamb” and “The Tyger” are no exceptions. “The Lamb” is one of William’s poems written in 1789. This is a poem about all of the wonderful, bright, Godly conditions in the world. Blake uses the characteristics of the Lamb in the poem to establish an uplifting, fluffy mood, such as in the three lines, “Gave thee clothing of delight, Softest clothing wooly bright; Gave thee such a tender voice.” This poem is undoubtedly centered around a child educating a lamb on the ways of God as well as religion. It may seem like the theme, including my interpretation, is all personal, but it is confirmed when the
The Lamb by William Blake is one of the joyous Christian poems about one of the most innocence animals created by God. The language and structure is simple and question asked are also simple since the speaker is child. The Lamb is a short poem written by William Blake and he wrote this poem in the beginning of the romantic period. At this time he thought carefully on human spirituality and expressing with focusing on nature. His most of the poems are very experiencing of his emotion of good quality. Later years we have found that he has given more interest on religion seeing more bibles as reference to all good and evil and also we have found that is the common theme in most of the poem. Now talking about the language, structure and the nature of the speaker and content of the poem are always in a simple ways since it is the poem of innocence and the poem of experience. In this text we have found that poet has created a series of poem that describe the Lamb which is an innocence child like viewing about the world. The innocence child is speaking to a Lamb about God and beautiful life given to him and also we have found that how son of the God is also called as
