The importance of our world's history is huge because it teaches us about our past and how we came to be in the world we live in today. History can help you learn about our ancestor’s origins and cultures. In English Political Heritage there were many important events, but the influence of the Magna Carta, English Bill of Rights, and Philosophers were the most important. The Magna Carta was signed in 1215 by King John of England. The Magna Carta limited the power of the king, meaning he was no longer above the law and had to follow the law. The citizens also gained some new rights, including they can’t be charged for any crimes without a form of witness, and no new taxes without discussing with the people about it. Rousseau believed that people were naturally good: they became corrupt by the evils of society, especially the unequal distribution of property. He also supported the idea that governments should be formed with the consent of those being governed. The Mayflower Compact was the first governing document of Plymouth Colony, and was written by the male passengers of the Mayflower. Every adult male had to sign the compact before going ashore. The compact created a Civil Body Politic to enact just and equal laws, ordinances, acts, constitutions and offices. The compact remained in action until Plymouth was incorporated into the short-lived Dominion of New England in 1686. The signing of the Mayflower Compact. Just like the United States, Britain had their own colonies, but they never treated them with welfare. The different colonies were treated in vastly different ways. The British Empire was never a regular empire, in each of the colonies there were different methods of organization. The Stamp Act was passed by the British Parliament on March 22, 1765. The tax was set for all American colonists and required them to pay tax on each and every piece of printed paper they used, including legal documents, licenses, newspapers, and even playing cards! The money gained from the new act was used to help pay for all the costs of defending and protecting the American frontier near the Appalachian
