Where I personally am at in the physical dimension is on the lower end for flexibility and cardiorespiratory, but around average for the muscular strength and endurance. I am a bit overweight and have been for the most recent years of my life due to lack of motivation to work to and keep off the weight. As of late, my dietary habits have been atrocious, but I hope to change that. One great thing about my physical dimension of wellness though is my great immune system. Getting sick is rare for me and only really happens once or twice a year. I do try to take care of myself nicely as I stay away from smoking, drinking, and drugs. I am lucky to not live with any smokers so being exposed to tobacco smoke is off the table and I do not live near any polluted areas. I visit the dentist every 6 months and did not have any cavities the last time I had a check-up. One bad side of my physical dimension is the shakiness in my hands. Small finger-work such as writing, typing, or even just holding an item can become a hassle if I get nervous or anxious(which is quite often). I’ve gone to the doctors about it and learned that it 's know as Essential Tremors and will get progressively worse. I am fortunate though that it is not as severe as others have it, and, plus, it makes me even a little more unique as a person. My situation in the intellectual dimension is better as I enjoy my mind. I love to read articles online and have become addicted to all of the information I read. I have
As an Exercise Physiology and Nutrition major, I plan on using my degree to promote wellness in the school system. America is facing an obesity epidemic and I intend to make a difference by tackling childhood obesity.
Physical Wellness- Physical Wellness encourages us to take care of our bodies by doing physical activity, eating well, and keep balance of metal health. The more you take care of yourself and the more you exercise, the more your physical wellness goes up.
There are those who want to become a doctor to keep others healthy and those who want to become a counsellor to also, keep others healthy. This shows that trying to simplify the term ‘health’ into one universal definition could be a difficult task. Physical health that can be tested through x-rays and blood tests, issues such as mental and social health however cannot be tested. A person who is suffering from depression and a person who has a fever should hold the same level of importance to a doctor, parent and society. Health just like people can come in all different shapes and sizes. Health for everyone is not the same. This is shown in different teachings of different disciplines as well. The author defines health as being mentally and physically content with one’s self.
The three sections of the Wellness Triangle are, first, the Physical section -- which refers to the physical health of a person, including things such as the frequency of one’s exercise, their eating habits and diet, the percentage of one’s body mass which consists of fat/muscle, the amount of sleep they typically get, and personal hygiene -- second, the Mental/Emotional section -- which refers to the mental and emotional health and/or stability of a person, including things such as if one does or does not have mental illnesses such as depression, severe anxiety, and/or any disorders
Life expectancy in the United States is below most of the developed world and yet Americans pay the most for healthcare (CIA). The reason that Americans are so low on the list is their dependency on conventional medicine. Whereas other countries take a holistic approach to overall health and wellness, preventing diseases before they become a problem, the American system of medicine treats illnesses and the symptoms without preventing further damage. The result is an entire society dependent on drugs and surgery and constantly living in pain.
As famed poet Virgil stated, “the greatest wealth is health.” But, what exactly is health and how does one go about obtaining it? In order to achieve true health, one should not focus on small, subjective issues but rather should view health as a general, comprehensive issue.
In recent discussions of movie trailers, a controversial issue has been whether trailers present a clear theme. On the one hand, some argue that Annabelle 2 is about a child that becomes possessed and A Cure for Wellness is about a hospital that cures the ill. From this perspective, viewers only pay attention to the surface of the trailers. On the other hand, however, others argue that Annabelle 2 is about believing in Christ, and if you believe and put it in his hands, then everything will work itself out. Some also believe that A Cure for Wellness is about a hospital that experiments on the living to find a cure for the small sicknesses. In sum, then, the issue is whether, Annabelle 2 poses demon possession, or defending your faith. The issue presented with A Cure for Wellness is whether the medical facility cures the ill or experiments on people for greater purposes. Movie trailers present clear and hidden themes by the use of rhetorical devices through camera angles and soundtracks.
Many people in the United State do not have an understanding on what it means to be healthy or unhealthy. Some believe that there are healthy because they are not sick. After losing my grandfather to lung cancer, I developed a passion in educating and helping people improve their lifestyles. Although, my grandfather quit smoking 10 years prior to his death, I wish preventions and intervention were enforced earlier on. My grandfather grew up in the era when smoking was cool. No one was concerned about the harmful effects of smoking. Nonetheless, there is still hope to help others. I believe that everyone has the potential to improve
One of the issues raised in the book is Health and Wellness. According to the book, “The typical American now consumes approximately three hamburgers and four orders of french fries every week.” This shows that Americans do not take care of their health and is always overloaded with fast food for meals. In addition, even in school, students are exposed to message that draws them to food with little or no nutritional value. This emphasizes that students have minimal knowledge about healthy lifestyle and thus lead to a statistic I had found: “In 2007, 60 million Americans, 20 years and older are obese, 9 million children and teens ages 6-19 are overweight”. It is definitely unavoidable that there is a small group of people who is obese in Singapore
This article focused on wellness, which has become an important research growing in popularity. The article states that Wellness can include attitude towards an the active engagement in a person’s life. To help with stress and overall well-being, people may use music. Music may be used as music therapy with a certified music therapist, or it may be used in a variety of other ways. Medical professionals may use music therapy in combination with other treatments or in combination with other wellness activities. People may self-select and use music to promote their own wellness, experience stress reduction and increase relaxation.
To begin this lesson, I will have the students complete a self-awareness survey to assess their prior knowledge and understanding of the habits we will be exploring. Once the survey is complete, I will provide an overview of the lesson. I will explain that we will be using the book 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey to examine healthy, successful habits and to compare those to their own habits. I will explain that the goal is to give the students an opportunity to effectively improve emotional, mental, and physical habits.
The one aspect that I found most interesting about the reading was the section titled wellness. I found this section very interesting because I can relate to most of the issues that this section touches. For example, as a graduate student one is more times than none, very busy and always on the go. Therefore, when it comes to eating we most often rely on fast food or any junk food that fulfills our hunger. But, we fail to realize that we are damaging our body and as result, we tend to adopt this lifestyle as grad student. Also, staying up late and not getting enough sleep can bring negative outcomes to our wellbeing. More importantly, one needs to adopt a healthy lifestyle to be able to function properly on every day
After having reading the Richard Smith article and participating in the activities, I came to a further understanding that the word "health" does not vary in definition from country to country, but also from person to person. You make a valid point when you state, "Most of us are never totally free from some ache or pain, and still most of us consider themselves as healthy, although if broken down to medical diagnoses it would look different." This leads me into the next point Katie made about the young woman who is pregnant suffering from morning sickness. The girl felt that she was not healthy, but this now raises questions. Is she healthy? Does society make her feel unhealthy? or do the
There will be five dimensions explained under this topic. Which are: Financial dimension, physical dimension, intellectual dimension, emotional dimension and social dimension. Wellness is substantially more than only physical wellbeing, activity or sustenance. It is the full coordination of conditions of these five dimensions.
The first of the six dimensions is physical wellness, which is your body’s overall wellness. This includes the absence of illness and disease and your body’s fitness level. You have to make good, healthy choices to be physically well. Eating healthy, exercising, and seeing a doctor on a regular basis for check-ups are all conducive to physical wellness. Some good examples of people who have achieved physical wellness are; Lance Armstrong and the Venus
