In an area where so many households require two incomes in order to survive, child care has become a necessity. Unfortunately, there are many issues within the daycare structure that impair parent’s ability to go to work, or forces parents to take time off they cannot afford. The parents who are unable to work because the cost of daycare is too expensive that face issues with gaps in their employment history, which reduces their future ability to be hired and the pay rate they will receive. Parents who end their children to day care, but the day care does not cover all of the hours needed face the issue of missing work, therefore making a bad impression upon their employer. The Daycare system needs to be more affordable and offer more hours in order to be a greater benefit to families. Most daycares are open 6 am- 6 pm, and are closed on various holidays. This prevent parents from being able to get positions at night, as well as forcing parents to take additional days off that they cannot necessarily afford. Also, weekend daycares are all but nonexistent. To compound the issue is the cost of daycare. Daycare costs for a four year old child range from $344 per month to $1,472 per month around the country (US News & World Report, 2016). Younger children cost more than four year old, and of course there is the issue of having more than one child who is daycare aged. The problem is accentuated by the widening of the gap between rich and poor, that can be translated in this matter as an increase of difficulty for low-income families to have access to the much more expensive high quality day care options. There are several aspects that built such a controversial situation and the most important are certainly the cultural and economical ones. The huge growth in women’s independence and professional ambition, in addition to importance, of the last decades, caused the fall of the cultural basis that have always taken for granted the responsibility of the mother as the full-time caregiver (Chisholm 38). Now women are more willing to gain a successful and respectable place in society, and this can be achieved almost exclusively through hard work and full immersion in their jobs. Simultaneously, the economical situation of our society caused many families to depend on two incomes to satisfy the basic needs. In fact, the increase in the cost of living not sufficiently balanced by a relatively smaller rise in wages, and a greater attitude toward materialism and conspicuous consumption, have given women the same financial responsibility as men (Chilman 451). This aspect can be fully applied only on families with an average income or better, because professional daycare programs are pretty expensive and in some cases can reach prices higher than the minimum wage. Some families have to have only one income so that one parent could stay home to watch the kid(s). Single parents have to move in with their parents for help because they can not afford the care. People should not have to quit their jobs to take care of their kids when there are multiple daycare facilities.

Even so it doesn’t change the issues of finding child care or makes them go away. When parents work, quality child care is a necessity. And it does not come cheap. For families with more than one child, child care can eat up one salary, leaving parents wondering both working is worth it. When thinking of child care there are some options to consider like choosing a child care center, the costs of child care centers, and waiting lists.
Childcare or “daycare” is one of the most commonly used resources among Americans in the United States. There are many options for childcare that parents could choose from. The cost of childcare has risen dramatically over the past year, and no one really knows who to blame for it. The average cost for one child in a childcare facility ranges from $100-$350 a week. The government offers families subsidies for childcare, but that’s only if your income is low. What about the hard working middle class families that are still struggling to pay the high cost of childcare? How will they provide childcare for their kids?
The purpose of this research is to explore the benefits of onsite childcare for big corporations. More specifically answering the questions of “What is cost effective for business owners to provide onsite childcare?” and “Will providing childcare for working parents alleviate their stress; and increase productivity on their job?” The review of this literature will discuss the stress of childcare on working parents; the advantages and disadvantages of onsite childcare; the benefits of corporations providing onsite child care. The research methods that would be conducive to complete this research would be surveys and separate focus groups between employees and their employers. New parents would require a well paying job, as a well paying job requires a good education. Providing a daycare could lead to a higher class job to support an already-formed family. But, to every positive leads a negative. Frequent budget cuts would have to be met to maintain a healthy and financially stable daycare for children and staff (Source B). The main obstacle of proving a daycare is for the community paying for it. Taxpayers do not want to pay for “sexually active, immature kids” and would rather not pay for them and their “mistakes” (Source C).
In this program our child care providers have a hands-on interaction with the children. They guide our early learners through child directed play. The child care staff provides different learning opportunities by supplying an array of activities based on the children’s interests. This program will allow the children an opportunity to become leaders in their learning, by exploring and discovering their play environment on their own, with peers and through guidance from the staff. Although we have many open-ended play opportunities, we will have a few structured activities for the children to participate in. Have you ever thought why won’t the schools develop daycare programs at the school? The daycare center at the school for young teen mothers who dropout of school to start their career early without furthering their education and young teen fathers won’t feel the need to drop out to get a job and support his child. There are some on site daycare’s in some states but there’s just a few, there needs to be more. Although having on site daycare center has some bad to it, to others it has some good to it like teen parents feeling of security can be satisfied knowing that their child is in a safe place, create more jobs, and teens save up money and welfare won’t be an option.
For many working families paid childcare is not an option, but a necessity. Paid childcare aids parents, especially mothers, in taking care of their children while they work. As noted by Hutchison (2015), about 68% of children younger than 5 years have been engaged in non-parental care. As a person who has youngest siblings in daycare, I often think about how my nieces and nephews behave in comparison to those children who stay home. It has been empirically shown that children involved in childcare may be better prepared developmentally, emotionally and socially compared to those who stay home. Since children of poverty have parents working unstable or jobs that give very low-income, there are many ways that we as a society can help reduce these hardships for those in these difficult situations. With the increasing costs and lack of affordable child care, it makes it harder for the parents to be able to provide for themselves and their family as they have limited availability for days and times they are able to work as well as take care of their children. With these facts in mind, I reach out to my fellow peers to take action and take part in my petition for child care companies to have special price packages available to make daycare affordable for families who have very low incomes.
The high costs of childcare restrict many families and the increased support can make a big difference in the ability of parents to work. Increase childcare funding will offer single parents the ability to work, while also helping two parent families to actually have two parents work and help them rise from the low-income bracket. Childcare is the starting point in your children 's lives. The choices you make on childcare can affect them greatly. It is when they will begin to meet the friends that they will grow up with as they go through grade school. Children need this step in their lives to adjust from staying at home, to staying with other children in a completely different surrounding. There are so many different options for childcare now a days, it is extremely hard to say which is the most beneficial for children. In this paper I will discuss the childcare decisions that my mother made for me, what to consider when evaluating childcare, and compare them to some of my references and see how they are similar and also how they differ.
