Most of the time, I would complain about all the illegal immigration there is in the United States. Researching this topic has pretty much changed my mind on illegal immigration. Although there is much controversy over illegal immigration, it has many positive benefits. We Americans are never happy, always finding something to complain about. The more we complain and take it nowhere, the more time we waste. Illegal immigrants are usually, overall intelligent and hard workers. They bring their skills to America. Look at the Taiwanese or Chinese; they are astonishing at cosmetology or computer technology. Most people I have known would prefer a foreigner over an American; they are too careless. All we can do is prove to them that their judgments are not right by allowing more foreigners to enter the country. Also, Americans should show them what is means to have freedom. All they want is the “better” life.
Although many states have illegal immigrants, the majority of them reside in California and Texas. According to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services “California has 2,209,000 and Texas at 1,041,000 as of the last census in 2000. The next leading state is New York with 489,000. The state with the lowest amount is Hawaii, with only 2,000. The immigration population is between nine and 11 million people” (Statemaster.com). There have been numerous advantages to having illegal immigrants but just like any other situation, it has its disadvantages. Opponents will state that one disadvantage is the easier access to illegal drugs that are transported across the borders. My feeling on this is that it is easy to get illegal drugs from anyone that is already here; it is not that hard for Americans to grow drugs themselves. Also, some say there is a higher risk or threat for terrorist attacks, but it was an American that planned the Oklahoma bombing. Another disadvantage that was brought to my attention was that the uneducated Americans do not have jobs because they are taken by the immigrants.
