1.Mentoring helps both the mentee and the mentor recognize their abilities and limitations, thus highlighting areas for future development. It helps prompt thought about career development and come to a realistic conclusion about their career potential. It can help increase the motivation of both the mentee and the mentor. The mentee gains a new direction or perspective while the mentor feels a sense of achievement when their mentee succeeds. It will develop communication skills. As well as the obvious listening/questioning skills, we will gain experience of talking to a younger or older colleague. We will be grooming future allies. Within the same company this could help with internal promotion prospects for both the mentee - gaining a …show more content…

Task 6
First, I would like to share why I would like to be Vice-President of the MathSoc first. Here in Greenwich, we are lucky to be studying at one of the finest research institutions in the UK, learning alongside almost one thousand other graduate students and faculty, each extremely talented, highly motivated, and with a breadth of life experiences both extraordinary and unique. I seek this position so that I may employ my experience and skills as a leader to build upon this special experience at Mathematics and address the many challenges that students of unique backgrounds face, from their admission all the way to commencement, and beyond. Although I have been at Greenwich for under a year, I have already engaged in a variety of exciting activities here that prepare me for this position.
As VP of MathSoc, I will build upon the already successful line up of events that have happened this past year. To accomplish this goal, I will recruit heavily throughout the year and form a core group of student leaders charged with organizing each major event.
In my leisure time I like to surf the internet, create web design by using HTML. As fitness
As students, our experiences, ideas and leadership have significantly shaped Heritage into the University it is today. As SGA president, I will enhance this foundation that those before us have worked so tirelessly to create as well as empower our student body to meaningfully contribute in building an even better student experience , promoting new ideas and developing leadership for those to
Good morning class of 2019. I am Tori Cichelero, and I am running for Freshman Class President. As a president, my job would be to stabilize each and every single one of us, because we are new to the community of Ursuline Academy. I will make sure we are all involved, so we all get to be connected into the school. In order to be involved, we all have to take risk and try new things. Trying new things can be scary, but it can be so much better when you have a leader to guide you. My guidance can make us freshman the best possible class by using our intelligence, hard-work, responsibility, and kindness. When I think of Ursuline Academy, I think of how great our class is. Each classmate in front of me right now means so much to me. Your grades,
To be a good mentor you have to have great qualities like being helpful and being really good at giving good constructive criticism. Whomever you're mentoring should receive information that is both positive and negative. You want to makes sure you give pros and cons so that your mentee can learn from them. (Patterson) Some social activities that you can do in mentoring programs include talking about life experiences, having lunch together, and visiting the mentor's home for a bonding experience. (Wexler) Although most mentoring programs usually have short durations and are claimed to be a “waste of money,” they are beneficial to girls because they prevent peer pressure, diseases, and pregnancies; encourage girls to be more mannerable, respectful, and ladylike; and results in kids being more likely to graduate high school and attend college.
On April 26, 2017 I was made eighth grade secretary. Last year Mrs. Trimble, our advisor, just had us in her advisory. Thirty minutes a week to organize immense school functions for a little over one-thousand students wasn’t enough time, imagine that. This year we have student council as an elective class, so we are allowed more time to do what we need to. This is extremely nice because we have a lot to do as a board. Student council positions in high school can open up opportunities to apply for scholarships and prepare you for future jobs. Soon enough, I’ll start thinking about those possibilities, but all the worry is worth
“The greatest good you can do for another is not just share your riches but to reveal to him his own. - Benjamin Disrael This quote is similar to a Chinese Proverb that says “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”(Chinese Proverb). Both essentially say the same thing, and that is, you can only help someone so much until they need to realize they are capable of doing great things on their own. Higher Risk youth benefit from guidance, but once they have figured everything out they can move on alone. These two quotes apply to mentoring because, mentoring is like showing someone the way to life.
I have been attending Anthem Prep for five consecutive years and I am applying the role of Freshman Class Representative. To make it more interesting for our students to get involved, Anthem Prep has been making changes to its student life and topics relating to it. Though our school has made significant progress, I believe the upcoming student government will improve our student body and their lives on campus.
An advantage of mentoring is that it helps to acclimatise less successful workers to the job and organisational requirements. By having a "go to" person to ask questions, discuss scenarios and generally learn the nuances of the company, the mentee can become a productive member much more quickly and never feel that he has nowhere to turn for help. The mentee can gain the sense of achievement that comes from the mentor's feedback and assessment of his progress. The mentee's quest to gain the mentor's approval can serve as a motivating force to continue to improve his performance. The mentor can gain satisfaction from knowing that she is helping an individual and can take a measure of pride in her accomplishments. For a mentor that has already achieved a great deal of success, she can look at the process as a way of "giving back”.
"Mentoring is a special quality, skill set and attitude," she says. "The benefits are not only between the mentor and mentee, but the future generations."
There are many benefits that could be useful for young adults to have a mentor, according to Blue Sky Coaching (2008). One of many, that personally stands out to me, is business and life skills. I think this is very beneficial because whether you have a career mentor as an employee or a child development mentor, they can help you discover the value of life and teach you things that will take you farther then you would go on your own. This skill is something you can't get from just anyone, they have to know the skill and tell you the do's and don'ts of the process the correct way. It could be a volunteer from an organization, all the way up to the CEO of a large flourishing company, they will show you the way to go. Other benefits include: knowledge and contacts, perspective
For my senior project, I choose to do the Montana Tech Math Bowl. With the support of my fellow senior math majors I became the President of the Math Club. Dr. Laurie Battle then became the advisor to math club and my project.
My time with APAC started back when I was a freshman back in 2014. Every week after science olympiad ended I would find my way to APAC and sit quietly through discussions in the back of the room. Even though I missed significant amounts of the discussion each week and almost never talked when I was there, something still made me come back each week. This is part of the beauty of our club; anyone can come and partake in discussions. Nonmembers and members alike can learn from each other and have valuable insights to share. In the end, my time with science olympiad ended, I started coming to APAC full-time, and here I am today--a hopeful candidate of the co president position.
Mentoring for the mentor is about challenging himself to perform to greater capabilities while nurturing a mentee and stretching them to realise their full potential. Mentors counsel, tutor and guide their mentees in developing themselves.
Hello everyone! I’m Alina Chen and an eighth grader, and I believe I will be the best secretary for Rio. As Dr. Seuss said, “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any way you choose.” We all have the potential to make an impact in the lives of the people around us. This is the last year I can and will lead this school to eminence… a prestigious academic post… I have partake in a position in student council last year, so my resolution of assembling an ideal school for the student body is warrantied. My participation in Pentathlon and Math Olympiad as a starter for two years demonstrates the guarantee of my organization and attentive skills. Healthier lunches and entertaining field trips are only
Functions provided by a mentor include both career oriented and psychosocial. Career oriented functions are done to “enhance career advancement” of the protégé (Greenhaus et al 2010). Career functions include sponsorship, increased exposure and visibility, coaching, protection, and challenging but doable assignments. Psychosocial functions are done to “enhance sense of competence and effectiveness” of the protégé (Greenhaus, 2010, p 212). These functions involve being a role model, providing acceptance and confirmation, being a counselor, and providing
Accompanied with the current shift towards more organic organisation structures and more emphasis on the learning organisation, mentoring provides a more all round experience to the mentees by getting them confident with their role with the organisation. It also improves communication throughout the organisation by allowing mentees to give feedback and learn in a not so formal fashion which helps people feel more relaxed and develops the formal and informal culture of the organisation.
