In unit three of Nation of Nations, there were many social/cultural and political issues that affected the Jews in Germany and the Japanese in America. The social/cultural groups were roused due to the conflicts arising over ethnic backgrounds, race, and class differences. The Jews and Japanese faced discrimination in both countries whether they were born there or not. (Davidson, 2008) In America, the Japanese were treated as, “aliens of enemy nationality.” This was partly because of their attack on Pearl Harbor. In Germany, the Jews were treated as, “inferior creatures.” This was due to the dictatorship and racism of Adolf Hitler. Both in America and Germany, these two groups were sent to concentration camps and isolated from …show more content…
“Hitler began building weapons, training pilots for war, and allied with Austria. He also left an International Disarmament Conference and the League of Nations.” (Chomsky, 2009) Racial theories and goals were at the center of Hitler’s thoughts. He wanted to make Germany a formidable military power. According to Kagan, “Hitler’s long-range plans included germinating in lands inhabited by people racially akin to the Germans.” (Kagan, 2001) He wanted to turn these lands in colonies/empires. He also intended to recapture territory that was lost to Poland in World War One. “In March 1936 German troops thrust into the demilitarized area west of the Rhine River. His act violated the Treaty of Versailles. The League of Nations sputtered out a worthless condemnation. Roosevelt remained aloof.” (Davidson, 2008) On September 1, 1939 WWll had begun… Hitler invaded Poland with lightening warfare. Then France and Britain declared war on Germany. Daryl wrote, “The suffering of Germany means a lot to Hitler and that would be the best conclusion that Hitler started WWll in Europe….Most likely for REVENGE! (Daryl, 2007) After the war had started, Roosevelt was asked by a reporter whether America would stay out of the war and Roosevelt replied, “I believe we can, and every effort will be made by the administration
Hitler’s foreign aims were to have all German nationalists united under one nation. To get rid of the Treaty of Versailles, executed after the first world war after they lost, which forced Germany to pay large reparations. Finally, to take over countries to the east of Germany for Lebensraum, or living space for the Aryan race.
A third promise of Hitlers was that he would provide more living space. Hitler believed that Germany required more living space, or "Lebensraum", in order to survive. Instead of adding colonies to make Germany bigger, Hitler wanted to enlarge Germany within Europe. Hitler stated that the Soviet Union was run by the Jews, thus Germany had a right to take Russian land. With more living space, it was believed that this would make Germany stronger: stronger military, and built high hopes that Germany would become economically self-sufficient with the newfound wealth of food and raw material sources.
Hitler believed the Aryan people and those of true German decent were predestined to rule the world. All other races were seen as a threat to the end product of his master plan(The Holocaust Explained). This led to deportation, being forced to live in ghettos, and eventually the killing of races seen as degenerates to the Nazi party. Propaganda was used to create stereotypes and bad images of Jews and other “unworthy” races, while creating a fear, distrust and eventually a hatred of these supposed enemies. Anti-Semitic and other racist propaganda was used to justify the status of pariah being given to Jews and others deemed as “undesirables” (The Chief).
The Nazis wanted to create a society of healthy and strong individuals that could make Germany the “master race”. They believed that there was no place for the weak and disabled. The physically and mentally handicapped were viewed as "useless" to society. They were seen as a threat to genetic purity, and, ultimately, unworthy of life ("The Holocaust”). They wanted to make sure that they had only strong and healthy people available to them if they had to put together an army and go to war. Hitler believed that Germany would rule the world one day. He thought that only people of German blood should live in Germany. He also wanted to rid Germany of the mentally and physically disabled because they were seen as imperfect and a drain on their resources.
Living space then, was a necessary objective in Hitler 's eyes, but in order to achieve this space he needed to develop Germany 's army first. So he did. Between 1933 and 1939 the Treaty of Versailles was secretly avoided to massively increase the size of the German army, from 100,000 to 300,00017. The Luftwaffe, German air force, also rapidly increased and by 1940 it was the strongest among all the European powers. The German war machine was impressive, in just six years it went from being the weakest army to one of the strongest18. However, this created a vicious circle in terms of foreign policy for Germany: Hitler wanted living space, so he built up the army. However, in order to pay for this rapid rearmament, he had to conquer territories. Thus, Hitler made war profitable and a key part of the foreign policy of Germany19.
Dating back to the Beginning of the Holocaust, Hitler had one major plan in mind. Hitler believed in racial “purity” that would one day take over the world. When Hitler and the Nazis came into power they viewed the Jewish population not as a religious group, but rather as a poisonous “race”. In turn, the Nazis discriminated the Jewish to say the least. The goal Hitler strived for would be complete elimination of all people he did not view to be the superior face, Jewish people were the main
Hitler’s goal was world domination. His military efforts allowed for him to gain the governing area that he needed to achieve his goal, but there was still other factors that he believed would prevent him from actually attaining it. One of those things was the Jewish population. Hitler believed in a conspiracy theory that said that instilled the idea that Jewish people were also pursuing world domination. So, in an effort to get rid of the competition the Nazis, under Hitler's control, Authorized the killing of about six million Jewish people.
The reasons for immigration to the "land of opportunity" called America in the early years of our country are clear. America was seen as a place where an individual could start over with an equal chance of success or failure, offered jobs, no matter what country he or she came from. This proved to be true for Irish immigrants, German-American immigrants, English and black immigrants that came to America. However, this was not the same for many of the Japanese immigrants. One of the many challenges Japanese immigrants faced when they arrived in the United States was the efforts of politicians, intellectuals, and community leaders to label Japanese an "undesirable race." Known collectively as the "anti-Japanese exclusion movement," these efforts ranged from introducing discriminatory legislation that discouraged further Japanese immigration, encouraging and enforcing boycotts of Japanese businesses, and spreading propaganda that offered a multitude of reasons to justify the exclusion of Japanese from the United States.
Foremost, Hitler showed unmatched hatred to the Jews people, communists, as well as other minor groups (Shepley). The hatred he had was so much that he viewed these individuals as the enemy of Germany and saw the need to eliminate them from the country. The Aryan people, he thought, was the race that was destined to rule other people. Consequently, Hitler saw the need and called for strong leadership to take Germany to the place it belonged, a place he saw was unrightfully snatched away after the end of the First World War. For the German dictator, the supposed superiority of one race over another is an underlying force in the society in the entire time of history. As a result of the perceived differences, there was tension between the races, something that continued to be a significant driving in the history of Hitler 's rule over Germany. It was unlike the idea of Marx that put forward the idea of economics as the driving force in history. Hitler’s perception of history evolving to a higher level was that there was the need for the Aryan race to be dormant over the rest of the world’s races. According to him, there was no other proper race in German other than the Aryan, and his ultimate mission was to promote the interest of the Germans to the exclusion of the rest of the races, with war being the primary tool in that effort.
Adolf Hitler, Germany’s Reich Chancellor during the post-WWI and WWII times, played a tremendously important role in Germany’s rise to power during World War II. Hitler wrote multiple books and speeches voicing his opinions on Germany’s plans for battle. In most of his literary work, Hitler spoke about his plans of elimination of individuals with certain races, religions, sexual orientations, and beliefs. These individuals included Roma Gypsies, European Catholics, European Christians, European Jews, dark-skinned or black people of African descent, homosexuals, interracial couples, and the disabled. Hitler regarded these types of people as the principal barrier to German European dominance, and found that their existence barred against Hitler’s plan of European domination. In conjunction with this plan was his
Many people assume that Hitler and the Nazi party were the only cause of starting World War II, but there were many other events that took place before World War II. It mainly started at the end of World War I. Germany realized that they could not win the war against Allies and instead signed a treaty. With the peace treaty, Germany owed England and France over 10 billion dollars. This destoyed Germany’s economy. Unemployment rose 40% and there was anger and uprising all throughout the nation. The people of Germany were enraged and distraught with the state of things.
This investigation is important in its historical context because Japan and Germany had shared many similarities such as the ideology. In the Second World War, Germany was considering that the Aryans are the most superior race, and it persecuted approximately 6 millions of Jews cruelly. On the other hand, Japan considered itself as ‘leading race’ of Asia. When it conquered the colonies in Asia, it forced the Asian civilians to take Japanese education. It taught Japanese language to kids, and taught a song and dance which supported the Japanese military. The Asian civilians were given a Japanese name as well. Japanese military tried to make civilians discard of their original identity. These aspects tell that Japan and Germany were considering
He saw Britain as well as Russia to gain power and wealth. He expanded the army and left the League of Nations to start off the war (History). Britain was the only power left after Poland, Denmark, Norway, Holland, Belgium, Luxemburg, and France (Biography). Because they were the only power left Hitler tried to overcome them right away through air but that was postponed (Biography). Through all this America was brought into the war (History). In History, “Hitler was now at war against a coalition that included the world's largest Empire (Britain), the world’s largest financial power (US) and the world's largest army (Soviet Union). He didn’t end there but his inner black hole longed for more. Hitler wanted Russia too which lead to the sending of 3 million troops to the Soviet Union (History). His decision to attack Russia may have lead to their defeat in WW2. Although He overran all countries at first, Russia came back through their urgency and warred against Germany along with the cold war helping them win (History). Hitler got too far in what lands and what power that he wanted crushing the country through war. He was never satisfied and could not stop until the greedy beast inside was fed, but that didn't end the way he may have
From the very beginning of his career until his dying day, Adolf Hitler had just two major goals. His primary goal was the forcible acquisition of Lebensraum (living space) for the German people. Secondly, he desired some kind of final reckoning with the Jews.
One of his many main goals that collapsed was his future vision of Germany. Hitler envisioned Germany having complete power and dominating the whole of Europe and essentially wining the Great War for 'living space '. He achieved the exact opposite by betraying Germany ultimately in the end. Not only was Germany stripped of any future of world domination, Germany lost close to everything. At the bitter end, Germany was left to ruins. Over seven millions of German lost their lives, millions were slowly rooting due to starvation and no motivation. Hitler decided since his goal of Germany domination can no longer be attained, he decided that Germany should endured a national death. This to me seemed as his back up goal. He wanted to believed the "Aryan or Master Race" was to be in power and in fact the opposite occurred. The initial hopes and nationalism Hitler had about Germany quickly trickled into complete hatred and lack of sempathy he never had in the first place. He wanted to go against them because his first goal was not being achieved. His
