Introduction:
El Salvador was first settled by the Native American people known as the Pipils. El Salvador like any other great countries had an ancient civilization that settled within it. In Salvador, the Mayan Civilization occupied it and the land shared with other groups of civilizations. But these peaceful days could not go on forever. In the mid 1520 's, the Spaniards wanted to increase the

The United States seen this as a rebellion against their own Government and didn 't support ideas of the FMLN, so they interfered with the revolution. The United States backed up the military leader that was in charge of El Salvador, Carlos Humberto Romero Mena to stand up against the FMLN revolutionary group. After 12 years of the war between the El Salvador army and the FMLN, the peace agreements were signed, and the FMLN group won. They later formed into a political party. So the United States interfered with a war that was bound to happen, which was going to have the same outcome no matter what. With the interference of the United States, they prolonged a quick, short war and made it last 12 years. Many lives that shouldn 't have been taken were taken due to the action of the interference of the United States. Others might argue to say that, No the United States intervention was the right thing to do, since if they didn 't interfere, the FMLN group would continue to spread the ideas of Communism throughout the whole world without any limit on them. And with the United States intervention, this created a limiter and brought truth to the FMLN group that trying to make every human have the same ideas is not that simple to do, and not everyone will listen to those ideas.
El Salvador was founded like any other countries, by the ancient civilizations. Those ancient civilizations were known as the Pipils and the Mayans. They were natives who lived their lives by
There was a major split in the people of El Salvador, The rich and the poor. That is when the riot began. Many innocent people were killed by the government, as long as you looked apart of the massacre, the national guard would kill you. On December 3rd, 1980, Three nuns
The United States post-Civil War era from 1875 to 1900 experienced massive economic and industrial growth, especially in the North. The rise of new machines, industries (railroad, oil, steel), and buildings contributed to a major upsurge in the prosperity of the American nation. In 1860, no American city had a population over one million; by 1890, three cities had passed the million mark. New York City became the second largest city in the world after London in 1900. The substantial growth of the U.S economically can be contributed to a group of wealthy capitalists that ran businesses/industries and stimulated economic growth. However, historians have argued over whether these capitalists were “robber barons” that were corrupt and took advantage of the American people or “captains of industry” that helped the U.S grow at unparalleled speeds. Wealthy capitalists such as Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller were indeed “captains of industry” who enlarged American industry and businesses, used their wealth to better their communities, and elevated the United States to new heights as one of the leading industrial powers of the entire world.
In the beginning when America was uniting and trying to form its official government the northern states and the southern states had already different greatly from each other. The North was industrializing and working on expanding west and the South was booming with farming and its famous cash crop. The North wanted to abolish slavery and the South did not. Since the North and South had so many differences and could not keep a steady compromise, heavy tensions arose between the North and the South which then caused the Southern states of America to decide to leave the American Union and create their own Southern Confederacy. This tore our nation apart. The American Civil War had begun and the very people that were once neighbors had each
The country’s history begins when the Maya Empire first colonized the area and flourished until about AD 800. (www.culturegrams.com) One of their greatest accomplishments in Honduras was the city of Copan, a city that was abandoned by the Maya people, and eventually became a colonist magnet for the area when imperialism in Spain took off. Honduras was first inhabited by Spaniards after Christopher Columbus landed on the Northern Coast of Honduras under the control of the Spanish King and Queen in 1592. Explorers such as Henry Cortez and Cristóbal de Olid explored the country and formed colonies. (nationsonline.com) Around this time imperialism began to affect the native people already there. The formation
My mother is 100 percent Salvadorian, and my father is 50 percent Salvadorian and 50 percent Honduran. Therefore, both are strongly identify with Central American culture. El Salvador is not only smallest country in Central America, but is the most densely populated in the Western Hemisphere. The country is divided into three different groups: Mestizo, Indigenous, and European descendants. The Indigenous language has faded out and now Spanish is the national language. Some leaders have tried to preserve the old Nahua language of the Pipils, but Nahua language is not spoken, except in few Indian villages. As professor Maldonado stated, Cuscatlan was the original name of El Salvador before the Spanish arrived. El Salvador was control by the Pipils, who descendants of Nahua and Aztec (Mexican tribes). Before the Pipiles, the main people of El Salvador were Chorti, Cuscatlan, Ulua, Lenca, and Masahuat. The most influential culture was Cuscatlan, which was consider Maya. According to archeology and ethno history states, that Nahuatl language migrated from northern Mexican desert into Central America. Pipils or Cuzcatlecs meant in the Nahuatl language “noble or senor”. The Pipiles were the dominant political force El Salvador and took over the old Mayan ceremonial centers. Therefore Salvadorian are a call
Conquered, Controlled, Creoles. The Creoles had been born in America but had "pure" Spanish blood. They are on top of the social pyramid. During the 19th century they had wanted to gain power and fight for Independence, all over the South American region, the Caribbean and Central America. The Creoles had led the fight for independence because they wanted more economic power, to keep lower classes down socially, and they had struggled politically.
(Marx, 4).Therefore, Marx states that the way civilians are treated depends on production of goods and services. Therefore, it can be argued that citizens of El Salvador were subjugated during colonization because of the way cash crops were being exploited. Things slowly began to change when people revolted against this mode of production. Marx would argue that the Salvadoran Civil War began because of materialistic motives such as the change from feudalistic policies to more industrialized ones which is evident in its history. Marx argued that the mode of production
In accordance with Jorge Juarez of UIGCS, the seminar's goal was to "make known to the public a version of the war's historical facts, without passions, without ideology, that presents the truth of the facts" (Britannica, p.2). In spite of all the studies that look at what happened in the civil war in El Salvador, they still have not discovered the underlying causes. This is especially tragic, as studies show almost 75,000 people died during those massacres. Countries throughout the world supported El Salvador during this long rough period of
Today’s violence in El Salvador consists of ruthless gang members. According to CRS (Congressional Research Service) about 30,000 kids have joined the maras and it will continue to increase. Due to the gang violence, children are fleeing the country to prevent from becoming victims or recruited, furthermore families are streaming into the U.S to seek asylum. Alike today, El Salvador experienced the same immigration crisis back in 1980 when the civil war was the cause for Salvadorans to immigrate to the United Sates. Repression and violation of human rights was the root cause, now gang violence is the root cause striking a similar pattern of the effects of violence. In 1980, El Salvador’s right-wing government had death squads to kill citizens for suspicion of supporting a social reform. Military soldiers attacked many villages, including El Mozote in which men, women, and children were tortured and subjected to sexual violence.
The social condition in El Salvador concerning the people was divided from wealthy people to poor campesinos. Discriminated against the campesinos because the people with the power in the community want to control what they do and don’t want them to do nothing for them. Poor housing because there houses are not build in the proper way for a person to live
The U.S. ended aid to El Salvador. Finally, in 1994, El salvador held its own elections for the first time. The FMLN finally dismobiled its troops.
During the Salvadoran Civil War, around 2 million Salvadorans moved to the United States. Many of them ended up residing in the poorest
The history of El Salvador begins with the time period in which indigenous peoples resided in the country. According to Roy Poland, in Culture and Customs of El Salvador, El Salvador was conquered by the Spanish in 1524; the spanish found the country was divided into three states (13). The spaniards hegemonic influence finally converted El Salvador into a Spanish colony after twenty six years of indigenous resistance(Poland 14). Such conquest brought violence, diseases, and poverty to the indigenous people. The invasion of El Salvador by the Spanish also resulted in mestizaje, racial mixing. The colonial period lasted until 1821(Poland 14). El Salvador finally became independent from Spain in 1821 and joined the United Provinces of Central America in 1823; however, in 1840 El Salvador gained full independence (Eileen Garron Batres 6), One of the most important crops in El Salvador during the 1800’s and 1900’s was coffee; during the 1900’s El Salvador was the third largest coffee producer internationally (Susan B. Hecht).
Located on the Pacific Coastline, El Salvador is the smallest country in Central America, and the most populated. The United States of America foreign policy on El Salvador is best explained by President Obama’s approach on Latin America where the United States is focused on economic growth and equality, energy and climate control, and regional and citizen security (Foreign Policy, 2012). This is best explained using the international level of analysis and neo-liberalism where the global structure and economic interdependence provides the foundation of America’s foreign policy. To ensure that one can see the transparency in United States methodology I will provide the history of El Salvador, the creation of United States interest in El
Both scholars ultimately failed to acknowledge that Salvador Allende was destined to fail as soon as his revolutionary ideas began to gain popularity. I intend to prove that the United States strategically planned and executed the downfall of the socialist
