The Second World War is considered to be the bloodiest conflict in the history of mankind with over 60 million deaths in a span of six years. After the end of the war in 1945, many people, Europeans, were determined to prevent any more bloodshed and destruction of that scale from happening again. The first step towards communion between the European countries was to implement economic cooperation. Economic cooperation is the cooperation between countries in terms of imports or exports of goods and borrowing or lending of capital and payments. This soon led to the creation of the European Economic Community (EEC) in 1958. This increased economic cooperation between Germany, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Belgium. Over time, this economic union became an organization that was involved in the environment and aid. The EEC soon changed its name to the European Union (EU). So far, the EU has been successful in maintaining peace in Europe. It has brought many benefits to its member state. Since its creation, peace has been maintained and outbreak of a war has been prevented. The Lisbon Treaty came into effect in 2009 and was signed by 13 of the EU’s member states. The states benefited from a common foreign and security policy. The civil and political rights of its citizens are being protected under the European Court of Human Rights. However in the economic field, the EU has some problems. The Eurozone Crisis showed the inability of the member states to manage
World War II-- also known as The Holocaust / The Genocide -- was the world 's second 'Great War '. World War II was much more larger in scale and more longer in duration. World War I had only lasted for four years, while World War II had lasted for six years. I find it quite interesting that contrary to popular belief; the United States did not enter World War II until 2 years after the genesis of the conflict. It was only in 1941, when the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor that the United States had entered the war. World War II started in 1939 due to Germany performing an unprovoked attack on Poland. Surprisingly, only a few months later after Germany invaded Poland; the whole European continent was at war. In 1939, the United States was not ready to go to war. In the early 20th century, the United States Army only ranked 39th in the world. Many Americans believed that the United States could not handle another global conflict right after the Great Depression. Although the United States was not 'officially ' part of the war at that time, that did not stop the United States from becoming 'unofficially ' involved.
The Tenth’s triumphs in Italy were demonstrative of the value of specialized forces. Their success both was very influential in the events of World War II and in proving the value of specialized forces. Once the government saw how effective the focused training of this division was, they realized that a new era had begun. The Tenth Mountain Division started the period of special forces.
After World War I legacy the Great Depression brought isolationism. The best work produced by President Roosevelt was the Four Freedoms; freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. President Roosevelt was the leader of the Allies, he used this statement as part of his Allies aim. The Soviet Union joined the Allies after being invaded by Germany. Millions of art were sold and reprinted as it publicizes the Four Freedom in 1943. In 1940s after tension between the United States and Japan over East Asia, on December 7, 1941 Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. There was no warning of this attack happening as a result United States declared war on Japan. The Good neighbors policy was, brought into place by President Roosevelt and Hoover in 1930s. This was a policy that would help the relationship between Latin American countries and the Unites States. The good neighbors policy would not only help the Latin countries but also the United States with trade and military.
It is striking how much our world has changed in the last 75 years; our technology as well as our knowledge has advanced by leaps and bounds. The World War II era was a time of rampant progression for America on many levels. Women entered the workforce out of necessity, and as a result women became a driving force in the economy: they made money, and they spent it. Marketing agencies understood this and they began tailoring their advertisements toward women. When war broke out and we began shipping our men off to battle, marketing agencies used the American people’s sympathies toward our soldiers to sell more products. With the limited knowledge about the products they were selling, advertisements from this era focused more on how the item made them “cool”, how it was “good for you”, and how it was the better than the rest – all without truly understanding the product, or the long – term effects it might create. Modern advertising has changed dramatically, with the advancement of so many fields; we have more information about the products that are being sold, and there are many more regulations about truth in advertising. It’s a completely different playing field for marketing firms today, they have to employ far more creativity to hook an audience and get their message across than our counterparts in the WWII era. Advertising has a powerful role in shaping the culture of a nation, and has the power to change self-perception. Cigarette advertisements are one of the best
Helga Arthur was born January 16,1943 right in the middle of the second World War II in Berlin Germany. When I was interviewing Helga she discussed how her parents were originally from Estonia and had lost everything which lead them to fled to Germany. But then Germany became unsafe when her father hear the communist were moving in and that there was the potential for Germany to be divided between the U.S , Britain and Russian. So Helga’s father got them forged german red cross papers and they escaped in the middle of the night through farm lands and keep going in the directions of where the Americans were. There was a tremendous amount of hunger along the way and the farmers that didn 't really want to help the people escaping the city because they did not want to get in trouble but Helga informed me that they could not say no to a hunger child so her parents and her got sheltering along their journey. After a perilous trip they mange to get themselves to Hesse Germany where there was a big American base. Helga mentioned at this time that her parents were both university educated and spoke multiple languages which was very good because her father ended up going to work for the American army and they hired him because he spoke English, Russian, Estonian, German, and a little bit of French which allowed him to support his family. The American soldiers were also extremely good to Helga’s family in terms of her father was able to bring home extra food at night which
Throughout the Nazis’ reign they employed many different types of propaganda to lure the public to their views and ideals. Propaganda lurked in even the most innocent of places waiting to entrap the unsuspecting mind and often targeting the young men of Germany. The Nazis use of propaganda was meant to appeal to the public through a sense of nationalism and fear of enemy nations. The propaganda was tailored to the public preexisting opinions and prejudices. These aspects along with the Nazis opportunistic style of propaganda made for a dangerous trap that threatened to ensnare all of Germany. The Nazis used opportunistic propaganda to convince a nation to follow in their ideals and actions.
In 1914, a war began that would turn into one of the deadliest combats in all of human history. A war that was fought between two alliances named the Triple Entente, consisting of Russia, France and Great Britain, and the Triple Alliance, which consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. One of the reasons the war was so deadly was because many of the commanders and generals did not develop the tactics at the rate at which the weapons had progressed. Artillery and Machine Guns would decimate anyone who came over the edge of a trench, leading to millions of deaths. The old style of face-to-face trading fire combat had become obsolete due to the invention of the automatic and semi-automatic weapon. A single gun could now kill or injure
Most people think D-Day is a day that we freed France. This is true , however, there is much more to it. Many soldiers deceased, and people lost loved ones. One of the bloodiest battles in World War II was on June 6, 1944 on Omaha , Juno, Gold, Sword, and Utah beaches to free France from the Nazis ' and make them surrender.(D-Day by Martha Brack Martin) People have been told that the cause of the war was because Hitler believed in the perfect race. This may be true, but others have different reasons. Dwight D. Eisenhower entered the war to help plan for D-Day and lead them into the war. He was responsible for the whole thing. Franklin Roosevelt may have helped and same with Winston Churchill.
"The era of anxiety and economic depression was also a time of growing strength for political dictatorship. Popularity elected governments and basic civil liberties declined drastically in Europe"(McKay 967). Most say the start of the second World War was due to the depression across the world. Others, like Monetarists, believe that the second World War was no accident. The worldwide depression left countries with dictatorship that seemed to be the wave of the future and therefore the start of World War II.
The ideology that a specific religious, political, or ethnic group is superior to others, a key trait of totalitarianism, played a role in World War II-era atrocities such as the pogroms against the Jewish community in Germany, the killing of dissidents in the USSR, and the brutal treatment and massacres of the Chinese by the Japanese army.
World War II was a global conflict between the Allied and Axis powers which began to consume countries of the eastern hemisphere in 1939. At this point, Americans were isolationist. To keep the U.S. out of future wars, congress passed a Neutrality Act. On september 1, 1939, World war II broke loose. German tanks destroyed everything in its way. Congress passed the “cash-and-carry” provision allowing warring nations to buy U.S arms with paid cash and transported with their own ships. Six weeks after, congress passed the neutrality act of 1939, and the cash-and-carry policy went into effect. By summer of 1940, Roosevelt provided Britain with “all aid short of war”. On September 27, Germany, Italy, and Japan had signed a mutual defense treaty, The tripartite pact. The three nations became known as the Axis Power. After German submarines fired on the U.S. destroyer, Greer, on september 4, 1941, Roosevelt ordered the navy to shoot German submarines on sight. The United states was now in an undeclared war with Hitler.
World War II has been considered one of the worst things to ever occur in history. Violence, death and aggression took place in the 1930s and 1940s in certain European nations. German leader, Hitler played an important, yet a very big role during this time. With the rise and domination of fascism in Germany and Italy, the goal was to maintain peace, established by the Treaty of Versailles ended up in major disaster. World War II began with the poor economic conditions in Europe after World War I and the confrontation of clashing forms of governments and in the end it brought about positive and negative changes of the world. World War II began on September 1st, 1939 when Germany invaded Poland; this invasion led to the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor, The Great Depression, and the Holocaust.
Southeastern Europe was on the very edge of financial disarray, due to the war. This suggests the conspicuous conversation starter: Who will pay? Those economies which are most needing profitable ventures, are the ones slightest fit for thinking of the required money related assets locally or abroad. Along these lines, if the course of financial improvement here were left to the rationale of the free market, there would be no expectation of repairing or enhancing anything. Luckily, we know from the German "financial marvel" after World War II, that there is another approach to
The brutality that came with the onset of the Second World War, was that that was unseen by the world in the centuries before. World War Two became one of the defining moments in the 20th century. The scale of the war and the atrocities that came with the desire for the absolute destruction of the enemy was, and will have an effect on the peoples of the world for many years in the future. The Holocaust did not arise through deliberate planning set out right from the time that the NSDAP came into power in 1933. This essay contends to prove that the ‘Final Solution’ arose though the nature of the Second World War, and evolved from previous plans of deportation and exclusion from the 3rd Reich. The official policy statements from 1933-1939,
The European Union (EU) was established in order to prevent the horrors of modern warfare, experienced by most of Europe during the World Wars of the 20th century, from ever ensuing again, by aiming to create an environment of trust with the countries of Europe cooperating in areas such as commerce, research and trade (Adams, 2001). The EU has evolved into an economic, trade, political and monetary alliance between twenty-eight European Member States. While not all Member States are in monetary union (i.e. share the currency of the euro), those that are form the ‘Euro-zone’ (Dinan, 2006). The EU can pass a number of types of legislation, with a regulation, act, or law, being the most powerful. Its ‘tricameral’ (European Union, 2007)
