They Call Me Professor Humor I possess the character strength of humor because I do not need a script for a joke and can light up the room with just a few actions. For example, humor can save a party or even spread happiness and comedy to others as I displayed one time when I was at my friend’s house and I broke out some dance moves which made his day. Humor does not only apply to those who are in a time of depression, humor also allows friends to tell stories and talk more freely. Comedy attracts crowds of people since they want to smile and live their life as happy as possible. Additionally, humor bodies much more than to make a friend or colleague laugh as I exhibited this a couple of weeks ago, as I told a very detailed story that made
For example, it can draw attention to important points. David Sedaris utilized comedy to present his material in a unique way that will draw the reader in. His material was appropriate to the interests of the audience. When he asked, “Why refer to Lady Crack Pipe or Good Sir Dishrag when these things could never live up to the things their sex implied?” (Sedaris 220), he successfully evaluated the majority of his audience, a well-educated audience. Given the author’s purpose, his anticipated audience can relate to his jokes. It can make the reader ask that very same question, emphasizing his larger argument. Additionally, long pieces can hold a person’s attention longer with humor. People are more inclined to read on to the end and get the full benefit of the writing. When facilitated well, humor can effectively comment on normally serious topics like education. Cartoons can also convey humor and facilitate a point. In Roz Chast's What I Learned, the artist used especially effective written and visual text to humorously comment on her own experiences in education. She learned that “if you swallow gum, your guts get all stuck together” (Chast 244). Though silly, this made her more relatable to the audience. The purpose of comedy is to make writing more interesting and in some ways more relatable. When discussing nonfiction, elements of humor utilize techniques commonly found in fiction. These include plot, characters, and
The purpose of humor is to create happiness and relief. We use humor to talk about uncomfortable situations or topics, some of us use it for self deprecation. While satire reveals social flaws, things that need to be addressed, and serious problems within our society, humor just relieves pain or sadness in the form of laughter. Because there are so many different kinds of humor there are so many different ways it can be included in everyday things. Many different people, movies, t.v. shows, books, and other writings use humor.
I am funny and know what to say. I can usually come up with jokes on the spot, but sometimes I will need to get inspiration from TV shows or websites. When my friends are down and sad, I will try to cheer them up with jokes, sometimes it won't work, but at least I try. Joking with friends is funny because they can come up with funny things and give me inspiration. Being funny is something that takes years to learn and master, or you are born with it. I was born with the gift of being funny, when some people try to be funny, they can come off mean or not be funny at all. I have a good since of humor, I will laugh at most things even if there is only just a slight hint of comedy in there. If the people I am talking to don't want to laugh, I will still try my hardest to make them
Comedy is healing arts for me. I could read or watch comedy without thinking too much and it relieves my stress.
My mom Barbara described me as funny person she said it doesn’t matter what day of the week it is I always make her laugh she says that I’m a free spirt floating around with laughter to bring for example, she had a hard day at work and she came home with a frowned face so I walked up behind her and didn’t something funny as usual she said, “you always make my day better”. I asked my dad Lauron he said that I am determined I always want to get to the bottom of stuff no matter how long it takes he says that i like to put pieces together and once I figure it out then I like to examine it and take it back apart
In this self-experiment I mainly capitalized on my humor and creativity strengths, but I also believe all of my top strengths came into play with this. I told small jokes to strangers I saw each day, and the goal was to make five people laugh a day for 7 days. Humor obviously comes into play when telling the joke, creativity is used in creating the jokes, and gratitude was be expressed before and after telling the joke. Open-mindedness and perspective wisdom will allow for nonjudgment in whom I tell the jokes too and remembering others may not find the same things funny that I do, and then seeing what they do find laugh provoking. I enacted in this experiment to find if this can increase my happiness.
Being funny has its benefits. A Lot of people want to talk to you, you're always getting compliments, and it is just an overall good feeling. You kind of feel like a celebrity, it also has its downfalls too. People always want you to tell them a story or a joke or something and it gets really annoying really
Humor is one of the most important part of anyone’s life. Humor can be different to everyone but to me humor is something you can laugh at and feel relatively happy by doing so. Humor appears every day between people that you see very often or people you only see passing by every once in a while.
Through experiences such as completing assignments from classes, and meeting new people, the most common adjective I have received is comedic. Throughout my whole life, I have been cracking jokes here and there because seeing people laugh is very important to me especially in a time where many people are depressed and can barely seem to crack a smile during the day. Walking through my school feels more like walking through a crowd of zombies rather than students and to me, that is heartbreaking. As cliche as it sounds, I feel as though life should be full of happiness and smiles so I take it at my duty to try and lighten the mood as much as I can.
Despite this there are some interesting anecdotal evidence that humor was used as a means to express wit and learning. Consider French writer Voltaire or even in relatively modem times Oscar Wilde and his extremely witty characters in The Picture of Dorian Gray. These writers used wit and humor to influence people, to stir emotions in their readers and their conversing abilities were fresh and exciting. Humor typically has an element of shock and awe and readers or listeners are shaken beyond their limits of self-control to burst into laughter. Uncontrollable laughter as related to humor was against the strict moral laws of Plato. Even Aristotle seemed to believe in some restrictions on humorous conversation. Humor was suited to a clown in restricted scenarios and serious self-respecting men and women did
Humor is the tendency to look at things from a lighter side. It is a way that makes something funny or amusing. It is the ability to recognize, appreciate, or talk about what is hilarious or laughable. Humor is the source of laughter and the substance of smiles. Humor is the flash that illuminates our eyes as well as the cause of uncontrollable tears that never gets old. Humor is a state of mind.
I realized that any stand-up special is essentially phrasing embarrassing or funny life experiences in such a way to amuse an audience, and trust me I have many. See, it’s not so much whether or not you’re naturally funny, just be a natural hot-mess with a spunky attitude, self-deprecating behavior and ironic outfit and you’ll have people laughing in no time, whether it be with you or at you (most likely at you). Move out of the way Tina Poehler and Amy Fey, because trust me… I’m a professional. Do you see what I did there? I took an ironic, quotable phrase and made it the tagline for my comedy special. This whole comedy thing is but a simple algorithm of which many others such as myself follow in order to woo audiences worldwide, now, much like my tricked out tour bus, let’s get this show on the road!
Humour is diverse and is commonly used within organisations. Many styles of humour within the workplace can lead to organisational success. These popular types of humour styles include self-enhancing humour, as well as affiliative humour. Affiliative humour is commonly used in the workplace to assist in amusing one another, to facilitate relationships and to reduce interpersonal tension. On the other hand, self-enhancing humour refers to individuals who usually take a humorous perspective of life. They also tend to use it as a tool to cope with stress and tension in the workplace (Galloway, 2010). Controversially, a few negative styles of humour also exist within some firms. The most common
As humans, laughing and joking is something that comes natural. This is something that we have been doing even before we knew how to walk or talk. As we start to grow up, we all develop personality traits and our humor styles follow. Before taking this course, I have never consider identifying what my humor styles are until now. I took the Humor Style Questionnaire (Martin et al. 2003) and calculated that my top humor style is self-enhancing and closely following is affiliative. Throughout this paper I am going to reflect on my top humor styles with personal examples, and how it relates to my mental health, with several methods I can use to make myself healthier and happier. I will also be considering the other two styles and how then do not relate to my humor style and mental health.
Humor: I can recognize people mood quite easily, so I use humor to cheer people around me up. I do not care being silly or joking about myself, so that I do not risk hurting someone feelings. Getting a big smile when someone is upset is a personal and daily goal.
