Thoughts On Design By Ayn Rand: A Career As A Writer

“Anthem” – one of writing authors Ayn Rand, shows her at her most vicious, hungry, and ambitious reading personality not only as a writer, but as a storyteller as well. The classic hit novel “Anthem” is the predecessor to Ayn Rands later books and storytelling works such as “The Fountainhead” and “Atlas Shrugged”, often tackles controversial themes that are still prevalent within modern America today, such as Family & Love. The grandeur novel “Anthem” is a reflection of such topics, all whilst being told with almost an aura of mystery within the novels plotline / storyline. “Anthem’s” take on things such as individuality and self discovery along with universal, self serving terms such as “I” & the word “We” are the key factors in helping differinciate this author Ayn Rand from other authors that write and compse the same genre of literature as Ayn Rand. A noticable interesting topic about the story is the way Liberty acts. It seems Ayn Rand, the author, has something against women even though she is a woman herself. The meaning of this is, the women out there that act like girls and only care about fashion and themselves is what is being spoken of. The literary element that is being focased on deals with this issue. This essay will focas on the story "Anthem" written by Ayn Rand containing the literary element of character.

Imagine a world where people are only expected to live up to 45 years old. In today's society, there are countries that experience this. In the novel Anthem, by Ayn Rand; there are many factors like lifestyle, government, medicine, and education that lead to this. There are a couple of ways where the world in the novel is similar and different to today's society.

Ayn Rand's Anthem shows us her view of our world united under what seems to be communist rule. For example their view of right and wrong; which Anthem portrays is a system of very strict rules which mainly make sure that everyone is involved in a collective role within the society in this system no one is considered an individual or that they can even think as an individual.

All technology starts with an idea. An idea developed from one who is willing to step away from the boundaries of modern-day life and explore the unknown. This idea is thought of by someone who is willing to wonder how life can be improved and see things from a perspective no others do. One must be willing to take risks, not only risks to their security, but explore and invent with the knowledge that they may be unsuccessful. In the dystopian novel Anthem, although it is set in the future, it remains technologically primitive. This society is able to remain primitive, because it lacks three main aspects: courage, independence, and willingness to change. After reading Ayn Rand’s Anthem, I was able to make multiple connections throughout the book. I noticed how much different themes in the book can relate to today’s society, or different government systems from all around the world. I initially started to compare and contrast the various humanities to the “Bill of Rights”, but I decided to look to see what other themes can be compared. I then decided to compare the two radically different worlds, The Great Rebirth and The Unmentionable Times: Drawing connections and finding things that set them apart from each other was definitely entertaining for me, but understanding which world is superior is a little harder.

How can a group of individuals work efficiently? A simple question to most, but how is it answered? When it comes to technology, efficiency is a must. In Ayn Rand’s Anthem, the effect of society on the nature of technology is a lack of progression. Technological advancements are hindered by the society because of the individuals working collectively rather than individually.
