Tourism is defined as an activity when people travel to different places for leisure, recreation, sightseeing, business, health, religion and many other purposes. The history of tourism can be traced back to the ancient times when man use to travel in search of food, water and for trade and gradually over the years started travelling for pleasure, festivals and cultural exchange. Later on with the development in modes and speed of transportation like roads, rail, steamships & finally airlines and also more facilities of accommodation like Innes, Hotels etc. led to the unparalleled growth of tourism.

Dubai is one of the seven emirates that joined in 1971 to make the United Arab Emirate (UAE). Dubai is located on the southeast coast of the Persian Gulf and is a business and cultural hub of the Middle East. Dubai’s main revenue comes from tourism, aviation, real estate and financial services. More than 90% of Dubai’s total GDP accounts to non-oil sector and tourism add 30% to this non-oil sector (Godubai, 2008). Dubai has attracted worldwide attention because of its various innovative large construction projects, sky scrapers, Burj Khalifa (world’s tallest building), man-made islands, sports & other cultural events. With its strategic geographical location and the great vision of its ruler, Dubai has gone a long way to become one of the fastest growing cities in the world and a unique tourist destination.

It’s know as the biggest metropolitan in the Middle East, and known as one of the biggest business hubs in the Middle East, a station for transporting passengers and cargos. Its official language is Arabic, and many of the school in the country has compulsory Arabic classes for the students as the government makes it to be. However, as the city has a lot of expatriates and tourists coming to the city, Dubai is very accepting of the English language being spoken as well as a variety of other languages such as Tamil, Tagalog and many other languages are also freely spoken in the city.

Dubai continues to amaze the world with its new endeavors, from the world’s tallest skyscraper, to a manmade spectacular island. Dubai has positioned itself as a city with the most futuristic vision, being home to the world’s biggest mall – Dubai Mall.
The tourism sector being a strong contributor is just not a new finding as its contribution has received widespread recognition in the country. (The tourism destination conference for 2010) reveals that the tourism receipt for 2009 was at RM 53.367.7 million, with 23.65 million tourist arrivals, making this industry the second largest income earner for the country in the same year and though these figures are laudable, it is said that the ‘local tourism sector has not been exploited to its potential’ (Y.B. Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib, 3rd March 2010). In 2009, Malaysia made it into top 10 most visited countries in the world, and was confidently placed in the 9th position below turkey and Germany. This remark shows that Malaysia’s tourism sector has pulled international recognition and has gained force of attraction that draws the attention of tourists all around the continents of the world to choose Malaysia as their tourism destination.
