Romeo & Juliet Critique
The Tragedy of Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare was in the 18th century in a place called Verona, Italy. Shakespeare illustrates about how sometimes that life can be unfair or not, but it’s not worth dying for when something bad happens to them or not. There were two young people that are Romeo and Juliet, they fall in love when they first saw each other and later on, they get married because it was unfair when both families hated each other when they don’t want them to fall in love. Then, when Mercutio fought Tybalt and Romeo fight Tybalt, both Mercutio and Tybalt died during the fighting. Lastly, when Romeo and Juliet both killed themselves because when life was unfair to them.

For example, he demonstrates situational irony by when Juliet fooled everyone to think she was dead on her wedding day but she didn’t know that she fooled Romeo. The thing that makes it ironic was that Juliet expected to fool everyone but she didn’t expected to fool Romeo. For dramatic irony, when Romeo said that he love Tybalt, but Tybalt didn’t know that Romeo was married to his cousin Juliet and being part of the family. This is dramatic irony because when Tybalt calls Romeo a villain, he doesn’t know that Romeo was part of the family. Finally the verbal irony, when Mercutio says to Tybalt right before they fight, “ Look for me tomorrow and thy will find me a grave man,” he means he was serious. This is verbally ironic because when Mercutio gets into fight, he ends up getting killed by Tybalt and literally was put in the
Love also cannot be affected by other people. Romeo thinks he knows what love is with Rosaline, but when it comes to Juliet, all other people are inexistent. Love should be powerful enough to drive someone completely crazy about the other, in a good way. Right when Romeo meets Juliet he says, “For I ne’er saw true beauty till this night” (1.5.60). From this point forward, Romeo’s love is dedicated to Juliet. No one can stand in the way. Next, Shakespeare deceits the reader by bringing in Paris for Juliet to marry. However, Juliet speaks her mind and says, “O, bid me leap, rather than marry Paris, From off the battlements of any tower, Or walk in thievish ways, or bid me lurk Where serpents are” (4.1.78-81). Paris seems like a good guy, but he really shouldn’t interfere with Romeo and Juliet. In fact, this act of marrying sooner brings more conflict for the star-crossed lovers to commit suicide sooner. Still, Romeo and Juliet did that act out of love and didn’t listen to anyone’s advice. Lastly, all family members of the Capulets and Montagues are not a problem for Romeo and Juliet’s love. Neighbors are supposed to be comforting and welcoming, but as for Romeo and Juliet’s families, they want the other family dead. Juliet says, “O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore are thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name; Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, And I’ll no longer be a Capulet” (2.2.36-39). Just by chance, Romeo and Juliet have to be enemies. Loving an enemy can be pretty
at first, but he changes his mind as he thinks it may end the quarrel

I think his character is flawed, but his impulses, his anger, his bitterness are closely related to Juliet. So I think Romeo isn’t a tragic character. I think he had a very good time. They fell in love at first sight .He met the right person at the right time. They pour out their feelings together and talk about family grudges, and they want the family to allow them together. He got a woman hell-bent love, will never change until death. They love each other even die for the other one. Romeo gave up everything just to be with his beloved.
A “tragedy” refers to a piece of literature which constantly proceeds towards a sorrowful ending due to the conflicts among different characters. The death of a hero or heroine is often the tragic ending of a tragedy, as well as other deaths generally caused by the hero or heroine. Tragedy endings often include separation, loss, sadness, and death (McDonald 157). Shakespeare tends to emphasize the importance of each individual’s death in his tragedies. However, these deaths are caused by the people in the play rather than forces of fate (Carlin 151). The actual “tragic” element in tragedies comes from the characters’ decisions–which are not influenced by fate. Examples of Shakespeare’s tragedies caused by human caprice include The Tragedy
As Anais Nin said, “You don’t find love, it finds you. Its got a little bit to do with destiny, fate and what’s written in the stars.” Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare is a romantic tragedy that demonstrates the theme of fate and mischance is constantly portrayed all throughout as the play goes on. In the Carlei version of the play and in The Notebook the theme of romantic love and destiny is constantly portrayed and associated with fate and mischance, since their fate is already laid out to be the way it is. When characters attempt to change it, the outcome will end up the same as if they never tried. This was will be proven by both pairs of parents were trying to force their daughters to marry someone else other than their love interest, since they weren’t meant to be because the fit of their family 's status in society, and lastly the inevitable deaths of all four lovers.
In the play Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare there are many occurrences that lead to tragic events. Many people caused or had a part in the tragedy in this play. One example is, Mercutio cursed the two houses before he died and the result was Friar John never sent Romeo the letter with the plan of faking Juliet’s death. These tragedies help shape the plot of the play. One tragic event will start a chain reaction that will lead to another tragic event.
One play and one student both alike in dignity, in fair Seycove Secondary where we lay our scene. The Play may be a classic and the student agrees, but not in the way others see. The real reason why romeo and juliet is a tragedy is not because their forbidden ‘love’ did not work out, but because of what happens to juliet. She’s a young, impressionable girl who has a promising future. Romeo is the local poet who runs around attempting to woo various virgins. Historians who have analysed the text have made the conclusion that Romeo was older than the young Capulet. Jay Black, former English teacher now comedian poses the question that perhaps Romeo was actually the antagonist of the play, he was the man who ruined Juliet’s future. Romeo and Juliet should not be considered a piece of romantic literature because Romeo and Juliet’s love was not authentic.
It is truly a tragedy when two people, who are deeply in love, kill themselves; it is much worse when one of their closest counselors and confidants is to blame for their tragic ending. Friar Laurence is the most to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s death because he didn’t get parental consent to marry Romeo and Juliet, he lied to everyone about whether Juliet was dead or not, and he was the one who provided Juliet with the potion that eventually lead to the death of both young people.
Have you read the dramatic romance of Romeo and Juliet? This tells the story of two families.. where two families named the Capulets and the Montagues have so bad of a feud that when two teenagers kids fall in love from the opposite families, they have to keep their love away from their family 's knowledge and risk everything, including their lives for a chance at their happy ending. The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, and the movie Romeo+Juliet, directed by Baz Luhrmann, both tell us the story, in two different styles about star crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet and how something so beautiful turned into a great catastrophe. I believed the movie was quite effective, but it didn’t quite live up to the original story of Romeo and Juliet, and there would definitely be things I would change about it. I am still arguing in favor of the movie even though because the movie included a funky twist the made it more interesting for kids to watch. I also felt like it made it easier and more fun for this generation to understand. I 'm going to be comparing what character? one character, setting, and what part? a part of the plot from the play and the movie of Romeo and Juliet.
