Hinduism is one of the earliest religons that is still practiced around the world. It seeks to answer the same questions that Christianity does, but arrives at different answers. It seeks truth, but fails to find it.

Hinduism is a religion that dates back about 6000 years and is one of the world's oldest religion. This religion is unlike any other and actually shaped many religions that are still followed today. An example of a widely followed religion influenced by Hinduism is Buddhism. Originating in the Indus River Valley Hinduism is now spread all over the world. Geography played and still plays a huge role in Hinduism. From the Aryans using a mountain pass to take over the original land of Hinduism to the spread of Hinduism today.

Hinduism is a religion practiced all over the world and has gained a large following. Hinduism got its start in the Indus Valley civilization and since then has evolved into a open and tolerant religion upon which every and anybody from all walks of life are welcome. In Hinduism there is a divine reality which can best be described as all reality is ultimately one for monistic Hindus or that there is no distinction between the divine reality and the rest of reality for dualistic Hindus. Either way it is put Hindus try to understand divine reality through their different gods, images, nature, and avatars.

According to Hindu beliefs, what a person does in a lifetime affects what place in society that person will be in his or her next life. The many gods that Hindus believe in are all the faces and personalities of one god. Moksha [emancipation, liberation and release from life and death] is a worldly understanding that Hindus strive to attain. However, it is believed to occur over many lifetimes and is achieved through reincarnation or rebirth.

Hinduism was founded sometime between 1500 and 500 CE in the are of the Indus valley civilization. There is no individual founder and no names given to say who developed it. They are many gods in the religion of Hinduism. Many Hindu followers believe that one of the gods is the true god, this creates a division in Hinduism, Vaishnavaism and Shivaism. People who follow Vaishnavaism believe that Vishnu is the one true god and people who follow Shivasim believe that Shiva is the one true god. Yet there are many sects that worship both gods. The word “Hindu,” comes from the name of the river Indus, which flows from Tibet through Kashmir and Pakistan to the sea. It originally referred to the people living in that particular region of the world, regardless of their faith. Hinduism is frequently used as a fluid shorthand for diverse philosophies, arts, branches of knowledge, and practices associated with people and communities that have a connection with the Indian sub-continent and do not explicitly self identify with religious tradition. In short it is most commonly used as a broad term to describe people who are not a Muslim, Christian, Parsi, or Jew by religion. The word “Hinduism” itself derived from the term “Sind”, which is now in the region presently known as Pakistan, of the river Sindhu. The term was coined by British Colonizers of India in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. To the British Colonizers, “Hinduism” meant the religion of those who were not Muslims, Parsis, Christians, Jews, and in some cases even Sikhs. The religious identity of “Hinduism” did not come in to effect until the nineteenth century.

The reason I came to this conclusion is because my research has lead me to the fact that it is an acronym. The “H” in Hindu stands for Honesty. The “I” stands for indignity. The “N” stands for nobility. The “D” stands for devotion. The U stands for unity. Also in ancient Hindu there was something called the caste system. The caste system is a type of social organization hierarchy in which a persons occupaiton and position in life is determined by karma and Reincarnation. In the Hindu religion there were four caste Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaisyas, and Sandra. Brahmins are priest, teacher, and judges. These guys don’t really own land and need other cast to work the land and provide for them. Kshatriyas are warriors and land owners. Vaisyas are skilled traders, merchants, and farmers. Sandra’s are the unskilled workers and laborers and craft workers. Each caste system has Dharma, code of behavior or set of moral and ethical rules that govern the conduct of each social class group has a different set of rules to live by. Karma is a persons social position life. The afterlife of the Hindus is called reincarnation. Reincarnation is when a person is born, lives, and dies and is reborn many times again. Hinduism is the oldest living religion in the world and it can be quite obvious at times if you take a second to study it. Hinduism has been in the region India is located in since around fifteen-hundred B.C. That means that it has had about three thousand and five hundred years to develop and change, while its location in India has allowed it to keep the title of indigenous. The religion itself has changed and evolved along with society for thousands of years, meaning that while it is somewhat modern, most of it is still based in pre-modern values. It is also a highly spiritual and philosophical religion. The religion isn’t perfect, however. Sporting pre-modern values means that it is also heavily fundamentalist, which leads to many conflicts.
