Formal communication is important in a health and social care context. Formal communication shows respect for others and is an effective way of communicating when used. Formal communication would be used by professionals talking to other professionals, in a reception area and in a meeting. Signing
Signing is an effective way of communicating the deaf and hard of hearing. It’s effective because signing is the main way to communicate with the deaf and can sometimes be the only way of communicating with a certain deaf person. Therefore signing would be used in any setting where needed.
Interpersonal interaction
Slang
Slang can actually be used effectively in a health and social care context. Slang is an informal way of speaking, usually this happens in social situations, but not how you would preferably speak to your boss. However, service users may be more comfortable when you use informal language such as slang. It could make them feel more at ease and more at home around you. Formal language could make service users feel uncomfortable and that you may be looking down at them if they do not understand. It could be used where chats are being taken place with a service user’s family.
Jargon
Jargon is used by professionals to communicate effectively and easier within their group or profession, this is when it is effective. It probably would not be effective from professional to service user. This would only be used in professional settings such as meetings.

People communicate in order to establish and maintain relationships with others, to give and receive info and instructions, to understand and be understood, to share opinions, knowledge, feelings, and emotions, to give encouragement and show others they are valued. Communication is an essential tool a carer can use to meet the needs of people. It is the basic requirement of the job role to communicate with individuals and staff members on a daily basis. Communicating with other staff members ensures effective team working and continuity of care. It also ensures any health and safety issues and recognised and reported.
In this essay I will be analysing the communication and interpersonal interaction that took place in various sectors such one to one interaction, group interaction and how effective these skills and other elements in the health and social care setting such as the environment was being demonstrated.

The different reason people communicate is to show pain, anger, joy, love etc. It is important for people communicate so their views, wishes and information gets across. The communication could be formal or informal. Documentation and record keeping is important in the social care sector as this information may be used for legal reasons. All communications is confidential and are on a “need to know” basis. Communication between colleagues and other healthcare professionals is essential, as it ensures continuity of care. It also shows staff are aware of the current needs of the client.
Unit 1- D1: Explain how communication skills can be used in health or care environment in effective communication
Communication is usually taken for granted in our every day to day living as we use it without thought. Good communication skills are needed in the workplace and especially with nursing staff to and from patients when giving first hand care. Good or bad communication can make there experience within the health care setting a positive or negative one and can leave a lasting impression. A good health care provider can use there communication skills to put a patient at ease with a few comforting words or gestures, a lack of positive communication in the health care setting could leave the patient feeling neglected, ignored and not valued as a patient.
Formal communication is used in a professional setting where members of staff are required to speak in a certain way that can be seen to be acceptable and respectful. Which speaking in this way allows them to be understood by the majority of people therefore it doesn't create communication barriers such as the way jargon might do. An Health and Social example is When a Doctor uses formal language when speaking to a patient (service user). They tend to greet and address them in a respectful way by using names such as '' Mrs or Mr '' to show how much they value the service user. In this instance, the service user will feel appreciate and wanted. Formal communication is effective in the sense that it's seen as professional but it can also have

Communication between professionals – communication between professionals is often informal however at the same time they must still demonstrate respect for each other and use formal language where necessary. To avoid barriers, formal communication is usually planned to make sure the speech is clear and understandable ensuring no harm is done to the service users.

We communicate for a variety of reasons such as to share information, to comment, to give instructions and to share opinions. Effective communication involves a two way process in which each person tries to understand the view point of the other person. Moreover, communication is a cycle because when two people communicate they need to check that their ideas have been understood. Good communication involves the process of checking, understanding, using reflection and active listening. Effective communication is highly important for the health and social care sector. If professionals use effective communication then it could help them to focus on fulfilling the needs of service users. There are several theories of communication that can be applied to a health and social care environment.In this assignment we will explore two theories of communication in health and social care.
