What does recruitment mean?

Recruitment is the process by which a business seeks to hire the right person for a vacancy. (BBC Bitesize).

Recruitment is the process of attracting, screening and hiring people or a person for a job. The attracting process of recruitment is where the business advertises the available job vacancies for a period of time. Once the deadline of the advertisement has arrived, the business collects up all the CV’s from the applicants and they are all checked off against the person specification. This is where the applications are selected by the business, the selected applications are then invite by the business for an interview and from there they are able to decide whether they are suited for the job.

Why do vacancies occur?

Vacancies occur within the business for many reasons, which can range from an employee having long-term sickness to the expansion of the business. Below this will be where I explain the most important reasons and I will be giving examples to both Tesco and Woking College.

This is beneficial to the business so you don’t spend time and money training new employees, meaning that those who are recruited internally are able to get on without needed any form of training that would be as time consuming in addition to the process being cost effective. Another benefit of internal recruitment is that there are opportunities for promotion, this means that it will motivate the employees to work harder which allows the business to run even more effectively.
