Unit 9 Assignment 1
Key Terms:
The Internet- The global network formed by interconnecting most of the networks on the planet, with each home and company network connecting to an Internet service provider (ISP), which in turn connects to other ISPs.
Internet edge- The part of the Internet between an ISP and the ISP customer, whether the customer is a company or organization with a large private TCP/IP network, or whether the customer is a single individual. point of presence- A term used by service providers, particularly for WAN or Internet service providers instead of traditional telcos, that refers to the building where the provider keeps its equipment. Access links that connect the customer device to the WAN

host name- A name made up of alphabetic, numeric, and some special characters, used to identify a specific IP host. Host names that follow the convention for domain names in the DNS system use a hierarchical design, with periods separating parts of the name.
Domain Name System- The name of both a protocol and the system of actual DNS servers that exist in the world. In practice, DNS provides a way for the world to distribute the list of matching host name/IP address pair information, letting each company maintain its own naming information, but allowing the entire world to discover the IP address used by a particular host name, dynamically, using DNS protocols, so that any client can refer to a destination by name and send IP packets to that host.
Subdomain- With DNS naming terminology, this term refers to a part of a host name (or domain name). That smaller part can be the part that a company registers through IANA or some authorized agency to identify all hosts inside that company.
IPv4 address exhaustion- A term referring to the very real problem in the worldwide Internet, which first presented itself in the late 1980s, in which the world appeared to be running out of the available IPv4 address space. classless interdomain routing (CIDR)- One of the short-term solutions to the IPv4 address exhaustion problem that actually helped solve the problem for a much longer time frame. CIDR allows more flexibility in how many addresses IANA assigns to a
A hierarchical system of servers and services specifically designed to translate IP addresses into domain names (forward lookups) as well as the reverse (reverse lookups) is called:
When setting up a new website or business online, one of the most important steps in the process is the creation of a domain name. A domain name is the name that those on the Internet will use to find your website. It is contained in the URL for that particular page. It is a quick means to give users a glimpse into your site. The name you choose might be the name of your company or the services that you provide. It may include your location or any other information you wish to include. No matter what information you include, when a user encounters your domain name they should be able to tell who you are or what service you offer.
The role of an IP address is to locate each device in the network. For example, having a Roku, Xbox One, two IPhone, a wireless printer, each device has its address. The domain name is a name given to companies, entities to communicate and share data through the network (e.g. intranet, internet, cloud).
Internet: An extensive network of communication that allows computers to exchange information, no matter where they are in the world.
Namecoin was created to explore the record-keeping side of the cryptocurrency technology. It acts as a peer-to-peer, decentralized domain name system for dot-bit domains. People can purchase dot-bit domains with Namecoin, and then Namecoin
The internet is a worldwide network of computers and computer networks that communicate with each other using internet protocols. Every computer has its own unique IP address which is used by other computers to route information to it. They can also send the information or messages to other computer using IP address which is followed by a two-way communication. Internet is exchange of information or messages between two or more computers.
The DNS or the Domain Name Server is a resolution protocol, this system is used for naming clients and network services. DNS is used in TCP/IP networks, it is used by resolving alphanumeric names in to IP addresses.
Domain structure – The domain structure is what makes the websites URL. This all depends on where you are from though. The domain structure makes it easier for us to find the websites that we want because instead of writing in the websites IP address which is awkward to do because its several different numbers that is hard to remember, also it takes much longer than just typing in the URL address. The first part of the domain structure is ‘www.’ This is at the start of all web addresses that is on the World Wide Web. The last part ‘.com, .co.uk, .org’ can either show you what country the website is from or what type of website it is. For example, .org means that the website belongs to an organisation such as Wikipedia.org.
These days if we see any business whether it is a small or a big but all of them should have online existence. And these data online can be stored through a web site or a web page. The user wishing to access this information will then search for it, but there are billions of web sites and web pages. How will one be able to search for the specific web page or website? So there should be a specific name, number or name tag through which we can differentiate all websites and web pages. The URL plays the same role as the name or identity of a web page or website. Basically a URL is one type of uniform resource identifier (URI); the generic term for all types of names and address that refers to objects on the World Wide Web. There is a specific format of URL. We can also say URL as a web address. The uniform resource locator (URL) was developed by Tim Berners-Lee in 1994 and the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) URI working group. The URL format is specified in RFC 1738 Uniform Resource Locator (URL). Every domain name has a suffix that indicates which top level domain (TLD) it belongs to. There are only a limited number of such domains. For example: - .com, .net, .gov, .edu, .org etc. because the internet is based on IP address, not domain names, every web server requires a Domain Name System (DNS) server to translate domain names into IP address. A domain name is the address of your web site. This is what is entered by your users who wants to see your web page or
This will refer to a public IP address of a website and is used for the users to easily understand the name instead of numbers. The Domain Names are extensions that come after the webpage such as .com, .net, .co.uk, .gov and .org. this will allow viewers to connect to the websites by using the Domain name instead of numbers.
The domain name management industry deals with domain name registry, transfer and management. Domain name is unique address within the internet network, similar to a physical address in real world. Some of the example of domain name are: google.com, apple.com or amazon.com.
The next step is to tweak or find related names by adding hyphens (-), underscore (_). Domain name search often leads to confusion because domain names are not case-sensitive and some names can be misrepresented if there is a space, punctuation or capitalization. Example, a therapist with a room that chose therapistroom.com as an online presence can be misread as the rapist room, Who Represents, a database of celebrities, Agents, Representatives and Agencies chose whorepresents.com which can be misread as whore
This is a service that gives a business/organization the ability to put their website on the internet and allow users to access it whenever they wish. This is the service that allows the user to register their domain name and to make sure that it is linked to their actual website. E.g. Tower Hamlets College has an arrangement with a web host, this allows us students to upload our class work to Moodle.
There is no relation between an IP address and the FQDN. They are somewhat related as the name of a person, and his telephone number. A list of IP Addresses and their corresponding Domain names is kept in servers called the Domain name service Servers - DNS Server. A Domain name has four parts:
Internet is a global network, connecting thousands of host servers worldwide. The United States Department of Defense established it in the beginning of the 1960¡¯s. Today, there are now 10 to 20 million people using an Internet comprised of more than 30,000 networks spread out over 78 nations all over the world.
